To leave windows behind
My goal is to say goodbye to Windows and you all are doing a great job
towards this end. However, I have two sticking points that I could use
some help with.
1. Internet Explorer installed and comes up well. However, I want to
use the msn Investment Portfolio which has a set of secondary menus down
the side and each of these have tertiary menus which I want to access.
These tertiary menus are

bind problem
I have bind running on two servers. Both servers are running
bind-9.2.4-7. When I update a zone file on the primary and reload bind,
the secondary receives a notify, but does not initiate an AXFR. The
only way I can get the secondary to update is to delete the zone file on
the secondary and restart named. Any ideas what might be wrong?

Samba as PDC for win2000
Hi
I am having the most basic of problems. I have setup a PDC with samba
2.2.2 and am trying to get my Win200) machine to join the domain. I followed the
following proceedure
http://ivy:901/swat/help/Samba-HOWTO-Collection.html#SAMBA-PDC
And when I go to the client W2000 box and change from the workgroup to
join the domain I get a popup which says

Secondary, tertiary group problems in Samba LDAP
Hello,
I found an interesting thing that I don't know if it is a bug, by design
or I need to be doing something that I'm not but here goes.
My system
RedHat 8.0 (1) PDC with LDAP 2.1.23 backend master,
(3) BDC with LDAP slave backend. All are Samba 3.0.

default Bind on CentOS 4.4 and reverse DNS subnets issue?
Anybody knows if the Bind version on CentOS 4.4 (9.2.4) has issues with
doing reverse DNS for subnets? (networks smaller than /24)
I keep a reverse DNS /26 subnet on Bind 9.3.1 (Fedora) and it works fine.
I've a /27 subnet on CentOS 4 (bind 9.2.4), exactly the same config just
different subnets and addresses, and it does not work. I do a "dig
@localhost .......in-addr.arpa. PTR"

DNS update system-config-network GUI
Box is fully updated CentOS 5.5 (32 bit). DHCP is from the ADSL modem
192.168.1.1. After I update the DNS settings and restart the network,
the DNS changes do not hold. I have tried using this GUI, as a regular
user, after giving the root password, and, also, logged in as the root
user.
When I begin, the Primary DNS is shown as 192.168.1.1 the IP of the
ADSL modem. I move that IP to the Tertiary

upgraded maps database for italy?
Dear UseRs,
I'm using the library maps. I'm drawing maps of Italy. The map available for
this library were prepared around *1989*:
"This italy database comes from the NUTS III (Tertiary Administrative Units
of the European Community) database of the United Nations Environment
Programme (UNEP) GRID-Geneva data sets. These were prepared around *1989*"

Best Practices: Samba AD with multiple DCs/BIND9 DNS servers
Hello,
I have been having trouble locating information regarding how to setup
multiple BIND DNS servers in a Samba AD environment. If I'm deploying
Samba as an AD controller using BIND as the DNS backend and also deploy
secondary and/or tertiary Samba domain controllers, what is the proper
approach to configure BIND on the additional DCs? If someone could please
point me towards

Unsecured zone transfers and open resolvers
Hello,
My question is not related to NSD in particular, but I have seen here on
the list a lot of people that work for TLDs and other Registrars and
Registry operators I thought it would be a good place to ask this
question. It is about DNS though, not completely off topic :).
I have encountered in my DNS studies a few name servers that let you
transfer zones they are authoritative for. The

Cable Modem
I read many postings in this listserv about cable modem under RHL 7.3 in
Sept 2002, I followed the recommendations, but I still can't get it to
work. I have 3 computers connected to an Ethernet hub/router in my
house, and the uplink from the hub/router goes to a Scientific-Atlanta
Webstar cable modem. The 2 Windows computers are successfully using the
cable modem to connect to the

Package Tracking System
Hello CentOS users,
Is there any sort of package tracking system for CentOS?
I'm used to Debian where I can view a changelog for each *Debian*
specific package. This is great because I can see specifically what has
been fixed and what known issues remain from release to release in the
Debian package, which is subtly different from the upstream release.
For instance, I can see

Hard disk, format, filesystem
Ok, I give up... I have to ask. This is CentOS 5.
I switched one of my raid1 disks, and I already thought I had succeeded. But
now it seems that something is very wrong with the first partition on the
new disk. Luckily my system is fully bootable with the other disk.
Here's some info. The new disk is sdb.
// I removed all partitions with parted, and created the first one again.

ACD Distributed Scenario....
We need to make sure that all queue applications run on the correct system that the user agents that own the queue application are registered to. So when a server fails and the user agents register with their secondary server (which will always be configured to be the same server for those related agents) the queue application is running on that server and routed to correctly by it's peers.

Maybe working - Re: BIND DLZ zone transfers
Hi Robert,
yes it does work. But the DLZ bind will not notify any slaves, when the
repository changes. This can be painful, especially for longer TTL values.

- lars.

Non linear regression using Levenberg-Marquardt method
Hello,
I want to fit some non linear models with the Levenberg-Marquardt
algorithm. It doesn''t seem to exist any function to do this in R ( well,
maybe one does, but I''m a new user, and the only documentation I have is
"An introduction to R").
I''d like to know if this function exists, maybe throught an additionnal
package.
I''d also like to know if if
