GE LP Series?
Hi all We have a 100kVA GE LP Series UPS. I can't find this series in the HCL, but other GE UPSes are listed. Would it be possible to somehow use NUT with this UPS? -- Vennlige hilsener / Best regards roy -- Roy Sigurd Karlsbakk (+47) 98013356 roy at karlsbakk.net http://blogg.karlsbakk.net/ GPG Public key: http://karlsbakk.net/roysigurdkarlsbakk.pubkey.txt -- I all pedagogikk er det

UPS for a test case?
Hi all I need to setup a test case/lab for NUT, and wonder what would be a good UPS to start out with. The UPSes I'll finally monitor will be over SNMP. Any suggestion? -- Vennlige hilsener / Best regards roy -- Roy Sigurd Karlsbakk (+47) 98013356 roy at karlsbakk.net http://blogg.karlsbakk.net/ GPG Public key: http://karlsbakk.net/roysigurdkarlsbakk.pubkey.txt -- I all pedagogikk er det

Password encryption?
hi all Trying to setup a testserver with NUT here, and I notice the password is set in cleartext in the upsd.users file. Is there a way to store it encrypted? I don't like cleartext passwords? -- Vennlige hilsener / Best regards roy -- Roy Sigurd Karlsbakk (+47) 98013356 roy at karlsbakk.net http://blogg.karlsbakk.net/ GPG Public key: http://karlsbakk.net/roysigurdkarlsbakk.pubkey.txt -- I

btrfs wishlist
Hi all Having managed ZFS for about two years, I want to post a wishlist. INCLUDED IN ZFS - Mirror existing single-drive filesystem, as in ''zfs attach'' - RAIDz-stuff - single and hopefully multiple-parity RAID configuration with block-level checksumming - Background scrub/fsck - Pool-like management with multiple RAIDs/mirrors (VDEVs) - Autogrow as in ZFS autoexpand NOT

Problems installing grub
Hi all One of the rpool drives on this server died the other day, so I got a replacement that was 1 cylinder larger (60798 vs 60797). Still, I tried prtvtoc /dev/rdsk/c7d0s2 | fmthard -s - /dev/rdsk/c6d0s2 zpool replace worked and the pool resilvered within a few minutes. Now, installing grub fails. root at prv-backup:~# installgrub /boot/grub/stage1 /boot/grub/stage2 /dev/rdsk/c6d0s0

slow zfs scrub?
hi all I have a server running svn_131 and the scrub is very slow. I have a cron job for starting it every week and now it''s been running for a while, and it''s very, very slow scrub: scrub in progress for 40h41m, 12.56% done, 283h14m to go The configuration is listed below, consisting of three raidz2 groups with seven 2TB drives each. The root fs is on a pair of X25M (gen 1)

Sector size on 7K3000 drives?
Hi al Does anyone here that knows if the new 7K3000 drives from Hitachi uses 4k sectors or not? The docs say "Sector size (variable, Bytes/sector): 512", but since it''s variable, any idea what it might be? I''m planning to replace 7x3+1 drives on this system to try to get some free space on some full VDEVs. If the drives are in fact 4k sector drives, will it be possible

%d isn't expanded
Hi all I have a box running Debian Lenny 5.0.1 and Dovecot 1.0.15. The user query given below does not expand %d, making logins fail. The password query seems to work well, according to the mysql query log. Any ideas why this happens? Best regards roy user_query = SELECT 'maildir:/var/spool/dovecot/%d/%n' as mail, uid, gid, domain FROM users WHERE username = '%n' and

setgid error
Hi all Trying to setup dovecot with mysql and postfix, I have configured it as given below. thecot user has the dovecot group as primary, and is also a member of mail and dovecot-users. Still, it can't setgid to dovecot-users. I tried changing the shell for the dovecot user to something useful and chmod'ing a file to dovecot-users, and it work well. Still, no mail comes through

kernel messages question
Hi I keep getting these messages on this one box. There are issues with at least one of the drives in it, but since there are some 80 drives in it, that''s not really an issue. I just want to know, if anyone knows, what this kernel message mean. Anyone? remove-source-files checking for open files?
hi We have a box here connected to an antenna receiving rather large amounts of metheorological data from a satellite. the data is received and ransferred to another box and removed from the receiving server. I first thought of using rsync for this, but it seems --remove-source- files has no way of checking if the file is open or not, so if the receiving process is still writing to a

dedup testing?
Hi all Has anyone done any testing with dedup with OI? On opensolaris there is a nifty "feature" that allows the system to hang for hours or days if attempting to delete a dataset on a deduped pool. This is said to be fixed, but I haven''t seen that myself, so I''m just wondering... I''ll get a 10TB test box released for testing OI in a few weeks, but before

Powerware 9355 supoort?
Hi all We're considering getting some Powerware 9355-30-M-0 UPSes to replace some older ones, so I wonder if it would be possible to use NUT for this. It seems 9315 is supported, but AFAICS that's the top model. dedup in dovecot?
Hi all Deduplicating data is not really a new thing, but quite efficient in mail systems where an email with an nMB attachment may be sent to multiple recipients. This might call for deduplicating data. Is there a way to do this, or is it far off? If I understand the system correctly, usually an MTA is calling dovecot on every single message, meaning the message itself won't

resilver question
Hi all I''m seeing some rather bad resilver times for a pool of WD Green drives (I know, bad drives, but leave that). Does resilver go through the whole pool or just the VDEV in question? -- Vennlige hilsener / Best regards roy -- Roy Sigurd Karlsbakk (+47) 97542685 roy at karlsbakk.net http://blogg.karlsbakk.net/ -- I all pedagogikk er det essensielt at pensum presenteres

Zfs ignoring spares?
Hi all I have installed a new server with 77 2TB drives in 11 7-drive RAIDz2 VDEVs, all on WD Black drives. Now, it seems two of these drives were bad, one of them had a bunch of errors, the other was very slow. After zfs offlining these and then zfs replacing them with online spares, resilver ended and I thought it''d be ok. Appearently not. Albeit the resilver succeeds, the pool status

Balancing LVOL fill?
Hi all I have this server with some 50TB disk space. It originally had 30TB on WD Greens, was filled quite full, and another storage chassis was added. Now, space problem gone, fine, but what about speed? Three of the VDEVs are quite full, as indicated below. VDEV #3 (the one with the spare active) just spent some 72 hours resilvering a 2TB drive. Now, those green drives suck quite hard, but not

Good SLOG devices?
Hi I''m running OpenSolaris 148 on a few boxes, and newer boxes are getting installed as we speak. What would you suggest for a good SLOG device? It seems some new PCI-E-based ones are hitting the market, but will those require special drivers? Cost is obviously alsoo an issue here.... Poor performance (1/4 that of XFS) when appending to lots of files
Hi, we ran a benchmark using btrfs on a server that essentially does the equivalent of the following: Open one large (25GB) test-set file for reading, which consists of many small randomly generated messages. Each message consists of a primary key (an integer in the range of 0 to 1,000,000) and a random number of arbitrary data bytes (length in the range from 10 to 1000 byte). For each message,
