[RFC PATCH] Decrease Metadata Fragment Using A Caterpillar Band Method
I made an attempt to partly decrease fragment by using a preallocated
area of multiple size of a std blocksize for a tree block when it is COWed.
The basic idea is that if any a tree block need to be created,
we offer, say, 2 or 4 multiples of a std blocksize for it, then use the
first block in the continuous blocks. When this block need a cow in the
future, a new free block in these continuous

[RFC] Btrfs: Allow the compressed extent size limit to be modified v2
Provide for modification of the limit of compressed extent size
utilizing mount-time configuration settings.
The size of compressed extents was limited to 128K, which
leads to fragmentation of the extents (although the extents
themselves may still be located contiguously). This limit is
put in place to ease the RAM required when spreading compression
across several CPUs, and to make sure the

[PATCH] Btrfs: use bytes_may_use for all ENOSPC reservations
We have been using bytes_reserved for metadata reservations, which is wrong
since we use that to keep track of outstanding reservations from the allocator.
This resulted in us doing a lot of silly things to make sure we don''t allocate a
bunch of metadata chunks since we never had a real view of how much space was
actually in use by metadata.
There are a lot of fixes in here to make this

Recovering data from disk with loose cable
We have a disk array behind two external SATA port multipliers (four
disks on each multiplier) which has been running btrfs (RAID 1 for
both data and metadata). Unfortunately, earlier today it seems one of
the SATA cables came loose, resulting in the kernel (2.6.37)
eventually OOPSing although apparently not before writing quite a bit
of data. Upon reboot, I was met with the dreaded,

[PATCH 1/2] btrfs-progs: mixed back ref support
This patch adds mixed back ref support for btrfs programs.
The mixed back ref is a new disk format. back compatilibity
is still not implemented. To try the new disk format, you
need fresh formatted btrfs.

[PATCH 3/4] update nodatacow code
Hello,
This patch simplifies the nodatacow checker. If all references
were created after the latest snapshot, then we can avoid COW
safely. This patch also updates run_delalloc_nocow to do more
fine-grained checking.

[PATCH] Btrfs-progs: add skinny metadata support to progs V3
This fixes up the progs to properly deal with skinny metadata. This adds the -x
option to mkfs and btrfstune for enabling the skinny metadata option. This also
makes changes to fsck so it can properly deal with the skinny metadata entries.
Thanks,

[PATCH]Add rollback support for the converter
Hello,
This patch adds rollback support for the converter, the converter can
roll back a conversion if the image file haven't been modified. In
addition, I rearrange some codes in convert.c and add a few comments.

[PATCH] speed up snapshot dropping
This patch contains two changes to avoid unnecessary tree block reads during
snapshot dropping. First, check tree block''s reference count and flags before
reading the tree block. if reference count > 1 and there is no need to update
backrefs, we can avoid reading the tree block. Second, save when snapshot was
created in root_key.offset. we can compare block pointer''s

[PATCH 1/2] btrfs: document where we use BUG_ON instead of error handling
Document those places in the btrfs code which are BUGing on non-fatal error
conditions that should be handled by proper error paths. This makes it
easier to distinguish between what needs fixing versus which BUG_ON''s we
might want to keep (to trap code bugs, unexpected inconsistencies, etc).
Do this with a trivial macro, ''btrfs_fixable_bug_on'' which just defines to

[PATCH] btrfs-progs: cast u64 to long long to avoid printf warnings
When building on ppc64 I hit a number of warnings in printf:
btrfs-map-logical.c:69: error: format ‘%Lu’ expects type ‘long long
unsigned int’, but argument 4 has type ‘u64’
Fix them.

[PATCH] Btrfs: fix not being able to find skinny extents during relocate
We unconditionally search for the EXTENT_ITEM_KEY for metadata during balance,
and then check the key that we found to see if it is actually a
METADATA_ITEM_KEY, but this doesn''t work right because METADATA is a higher key
value, so if what we are looking for happens to be the first item in the leaf
the search will dump us out at the previous leaf, and we won''t find our item.

In addition, the check on the return value in the caller of these
functions becomes unnecessary. So, these check is removed.

[PATCH] Progs: update convert for uninitialized block groups
Hello,
There is a new feature ''uninitialized block groups'' in ext4.
Block and inode bitmaps in uninitialized block groups are
uninitialized. This confuses the converter. The fix is call
ext2fs_new_inode for each block group at open time. It set
up uninitialized block and inode bitmaps appropriately.
This patch also contains some other minor fixes. Thank you,

Hello,
This patch adds shared reference cache support. The new space

[PATCH] Btrfs: fixup reserved trace points
In trying to track down where we were leaking reserved space I noticed our
reserve extent tracepoints are a little off. First we were saying that the
reserved space had been alloced in btrfs_reserve_extent, which isn''t the case,
this needs to be triggered when we actually allocate the space when we run the
delayed ref. We were also missing a few places where we should have been
