New btrfs-progs integration branch
I''ve just pushed out a new integration branch to my git repo. This is purely bugfix patches -- there are no new features in this issue of the integration branch. I''ve got a stack of about a dozen more patches with new features in them still to go. I''ll be working on those tomorrow. As always, there''s minimal testing involved here, but it does at least compile on

btrfs-progs: integration branch updated
After a reorganisation of patches, and sending a bunch of them to Chris, I''ve also updated the integration branch to match that. It''s available from: http://git.darksatanic.net/repo/btrfs-progs-unstable.git/ integration-20110630 The shortlog of 17 patches in this branch beyond the ones I''ve sent to Chris is below. Hugo. Metadata size
I''m a little concerned about the size of my metadata. I''m doing raid10 on both data and metadata, and: hrm@vlad:mnt $ sudo btrfs fi df /mnt Data: total=488.01GB, used=487.23GB Metadata: total=3.01GB, used=677.73MB System: total=11.88MB, used=52.00KB hrm@vlad:mnt $ find /mnt | wc -l 20137 By my calculations, that''s something on the order of 17.5K per filesystem

RHEL4 as 64-bit HVM guest -- not starting in 64 bit mode
I''m trying to install RHEL 4 on an HVM (Core 2 Duo). However, when the RHEL installer tries to start the kernel, it complains that the CPU doesn''t support extended mode, and that I should use a 32-bit installer. However: hrm@willow:~$ sudo xm info | grep xen_caps xen_caps : xen-3.0-x86_64 hvm-3.0-x86_32 hvm-3.0-x86_32p hvm-3.0-x86_64 Is there some magic I

tftp problems with VIA EPIA-M board
I'm trying to boot linux on a VIA EPIA-M board (a Nehemiah-based M10000), and I'm having some trouble with it. I'm watching the network transactions with ethereal, and I'm seeing a failure at what appears to be the tftp stage. The M10000 picks up its IP address from the dhcp server (ISC DHCP3), and reports it correctly on the screen. Then the tftp session starts, and I get the

Filesystem creation in "degraded mode"
I''ve had a go at determining exactly what happens when you create a filesystem without enough devices to meet the requested replication strategy: # mkfs.btrfs -m raid1 -d raid1 /dev/vdb # mount /dev/vdb /mnt # btrfs fi df /mnt Data: total=8.00MB, used=0.00 System, DUP: total=8.00MB, used=4.00KB System: total=4.00MB, used=0.00 Metadata, DUP: total=153.56MB, used=24.00KB Metadata:

[PATCH 0/3] Btrfs-progs: restriper interface
Hello, This is the userspace part of restriper, rebased onto the new progs infrastructure. Restriper commands are located under ''balance'' prefix, which is now the top level command group. However to not confuse existing users ''balance'' prefix is also available under ''filesystem'': btrfs [filesystem] balance start btrfs [filesystem] balance

SDL display of HVMs -- how?
I''m having some trouble working out how to make the SDL interface for HVM domUs appear. The documentation simply says "it will appear" when you start the domU, but doesn''t state what packages or libraries are needed in order for this magic to happen, or explain how to debug it if it doesn''t happen. All that I''m getting at the moment is a domU (running

[PATCH] btrfs-progs: add Makefile rule for static build of btrfs-find-root
From: Hugo Mills <h.r.mills@reading.ac.uk> btrfs-find-root isn''t yet integrated into the main btrfs tool, and is an important recovery tool, so it deserves to be built as a static binary. [PATCH] btrfs-progs: make btrfs dev scan multi path aware
We should avoid using non multi-path (mp) path for mp disks As of now there is no good way (like api) to check that. A workaround way is to check if the O_EXCL open is unsuccessful. This is safe since otherwise the BTRFS_IOC_SCAN_DEV ioctl would fail if the disk-path can not be opened with the flag O_EXCL set. This patch also includes some (error) print format changes related to the btrfs

btrfs-progs branch updated
Hi everyone, I''ve updated the master branch with the pending stable btrfs-progs commit that should make the 0.20 release. Thanks to Hugh for helping to queue up a few of them. We''ll have more frequent releases from here as we pull in the major new features going into progs (raid5/6, send/receive, quotas, fsck improvements). Please give it a shot and let me know if you see any

btrfs-progs
Hello World! I''ve just done a git pull from git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/mason/btrfs-progs-unstable.git and looking at git log, the last commit was on Wed Oct 6 09:53:38 2010, nearly a year ago. [PATCH] mkfs.btrfs: Fix compilation errors with gcc 4.6
gcc 4.6 complains about several possible use-before-initialise cases in mkfs, and stops. Fix these by initialising one of the variables in question, and using the correct error-handling paths for the remainder. btrfs-raid10 <-> btrfs-raid1 confusion
Greetings, until yesterday I was running a btrfs filesystem across two 2.0 TiB disks in RAID1 mode for both metadata and data without any problems. As space was getting short I wanted to extend the filesystem by two additional drives lying around, which both are 1.0 TiB in size. Knowing little about the btrfs RAID implementation I thought I had to switch to RAID10 mode, which I was told is

Subvolume creation returns file exists
Hello, We are using btrfs filesystems in our infrastructure and, at some point of time, they start refusing to create new subvolumes. Each file system is being quota initialized immediately after its creation (with "btrfs quota enable") and then all subfolders under the root directory are created as subvolumes (btrfs subvolume create). Over time, these subvolumes may also be

[PATCH 00/21] [RFC] Btrfs: restriper
Hello, This patch series adds an initial implementation of restriper (it''s a clever name for relocation framework that allows to do selective profile changing and selective balancing with some goodies like pausing/resuming and reporting progress to the user. Profile changing is global (per-FS) so far, per-subvolume profiles require some discussion and can be implemented in future.
