XEN domU + btrfs
Anybody tried to use btrfs on rootfs / in domU with pygrub?
I tried and realised that pygrub can''t use btrfs.
Workaround is to make /boot outside rootfs, but pygrub search kernel
in directory /boot. It can be workaround via softlink on /boot, but...
too much workarounds.
Distro: debian squeeze + xen 4.0
I wait for yours experiences.

Xen - strange memory managing issue
Hi all,
I have strange problem with memory allocation on my xen server.
My xen server:
- distro: Debian squeeze
- xen-hypervisor: xen-hypervisor-4.0-i386 4.0.1-1
- boot options: /xen-4.0-i386.gz placeholder dom0_mem=256M
Dom0:
- kernel: 2.6.32-5-xen-686 #1 SMP
- /etc/xen/xend-config.sxp:

Where can I find compress and uncompress?
Dear All
Utilities compress and uncompress seem to have disapeared when I migrate
from CentOS 4 to CentOS 5. Anyone knows where we can find them?

[PATCH] btrfs: use kmalloc for lzo de/compress buffer
The size of de/compress buffer and LZO1X_MEM_COMPRESS is small enough.
Allocating it with kmalloc rather than vmalloc is preferred.
This patch depends on my previous patch, “btrfs: fix decompress buffer size”.

compress data, ipsec & iproute !!
Hi all.
Is it possible to use ipsec and also compress data from one linux box to
another via a WAN link ?.. if yes how can i compress such data ??..by
data i mean network traffic(internet) !!
the corresponding linux box uses iproute & is linked with 2 isp.
the idea behind is to use a maximum of the available pipe which is 2mb
but with needs, has grown out...
can u suggest how to do it or

opus multi-channel compress
Hello everyone,
I tried to compress audio with opus recently, which works fine on mono and stereo data .
But I want to compress 6 channels pcm with opus, I have not found an interface that compresses multi-channels.
1、Is there a multi-channel compression interface?
If so, where is it, and how can I call it?
If it doesn't exist, how can I modify it to make it support 6 channels?

Auto-compress mode for ssh
Hi,
I looked in the archives, but didn't see this asked for before:
Would it be possible to have an "auto-compress" mode for ssh where
compression is turned on automatically if it makes sense?
You could turn it on if you don't care about cpu usage and lag, but just
about the speed of transfer.

compress raw image
Hi,
I need to transfer a local raw image to another datacenter.
Is there a way to achieve good compression of this image, I heard of
tools overwriting unused space with zeros. Is this a good idea?
It's an W2k8 image/NTFS.

Capability COMPRESS implemented?
Hi, I just read that

..is being implemented in Thunderbird 3. This is great news!
It's been a long time since we last discussed this and I don't think
it's currently implemented in Dovecot, but since Cyrus just added it,
any chance of getting support in Dovecot please? (Fastmail seems to be

Feature request - statistics for the COMPRESS imap protocol
Unless I have failed to read the manual for the second time in two
days (?), it doesn't seem to be possible to get COMPRESS statistics at
logout time from the IMAP protocol? Assuming not, then can I make a
feature request that this might become available in some future version
(pretty please?)
Can I also just check that the meaning (as of today) of the "imap
logout" statistics

IMAP COMPRESS not announced while using imap_zlib plugin
I'm trying to enable the IMAP COMPRESS plugin listed here:

I have added zlib globally and imap_zlib to the imap protocol.
This is the output from doveconf -n with regards to mail_plugins:

But it seem like the feature is not announced when connecting to the

Is it possible to configure the zlib plugin to compress the emails in one folder only?
I would like to compress the emails when they are stored in my 'Archives' folders and sub folders.

Compress by zlib only selected Maildir folders
Hello,
is it possible to compress by zlib only selected folders? My e-mail
accounts have archive folder and this folder contains old comunications
with my customers and this I use very rare, so I want to compress them
by zlib to save space. Is this possible?

some files already gzipped causes rsync to not compress any?

We have encountered an odd performance issue in rsync (running version 2.4.6).
We have an rsync server set up in our production environment (at a colo
facility). A backup machine in our office (which is connected to the colo by a
3Mbit pipe) is doing a rsync -a -v -z --delete on a directory. If the first
few files in the directory are already gzip'd then we don't get any
