Netware server emulation on Linux
One of our group companies has just 'gone live' on a new laboratory management package. Although the software is M$-based (ie: expects a M$ server at the heart of it), it is running with its core database on a CentOS3 server using Samba for client access - in fact, the developers are amazed at the performance and say it beats a Win2K/2K3 server 'hands down'!!! Anyway, the old lab

Mounting Netware Volumes
I have one last RH 7.3 system that I want to convert to CentOS 4, but I can''t find the ncpfs utilities that I used to use to mount Netware shares. Has support been removed from the 3.x and 4? Regards, Paul Berger

Anyone out there know the THEOS OS
Hi Guys, I am polling my 'guru' resources to find out if I can get in touch with anyone (UK based, ideally) with support experience of the THEOS operating system. We have one group of sites running a legacy system based on THEOS - an OS that seems to have 'borrowed' the best parts of DOS, VMS, *NIX and Netware. We are migrating some remote sites from Wyse Terminals, serial port

Samba over IPX
I would like to add my case for a wish of IPX support in Samba: We use a number of CNC tool machines whose host is pure DOS based. Don't be surprised that DOS is stilll running somewhere. It is fairly OK when we get to the field of HW and real-time control, unlike Windows and the like... These hosts use IPX to access LAN shares. IPX is here preferable to TCP/IP because of its lower memory

login to samba3 PDC and problem with novell netware client
Hi, I have actual installation Debian Sarge (testing) with Samba 3.0.2a. There is Windows XP SP1 on workstations. I use Novell client 4.83 SP2 or 4.9 SP1 for Novell Netware connections. I try to run Samba as PDC. Everything is fine without Novell client. After Novell Client installation, I could not logon to samba domain. Client gives me message "Domain controller could not be found for

Attaching to Netware-Server
Dear listmembers, recently our sysadmin turned off the support for ipx-protocol. Since then I found no way to mount my home-directory on the net (novell) on my linux box. Using ipx, I had had the same servername etc) I found a lot of discussions about the way vice versa, but no FM I could R to manage around this issue (i.e. mounting a Netware volume on a linux box). Anybody out there having an

Mounting Floppies
Hi - daft one for Friday morning coffee break: I have been trying to mount floppies on a couple of CentOS5 servers - the usual "mount /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy" (yes, /mnt/floppy exists!). On both servers, the mount command just doesn't come back and I have to hit CTRL-C. I have tried different media and also changed the floppy drive on one server, /dev/fd0 is seen as present on both

Netware modify bit changed
Hi, I run rsync, with a Netware-directory mounted on a linux system (using ncpfs) as DESTINATION of the copy. This configuration works fine, but rsync incorrectly sets the archive bit (modify) for ALL the files included in the transfered directory (both modified and not modified). In consecuence, the incremental backups on my netware server don't work. Any help will be apreciated.

Performance Samba 2.0.6 / FreeBSD 3.4 vs NT and NetWare
I'm getting samba setup, and it seems to be working. I have PDC/BackupPDC issues to resolve, and want to change things so the NT PDC authenticates users instead of setting them up using smbpasswd. Right now, I can access the samba box from Win98 and WinNT workstation with "manually setup" smbpasswd's. I have been testing performance and am a little disappointed, I hoped samba

A 'simple' problem?
Here's one for you if you have the time: I very stupidly killed the wrong process on a server on a remote site on Friday and now I cannot ssh login to it! It's not a major problem as it's main functions are as a file and print sharer (samba) and to run postfix/mailscanner, and I can have someone on site reboot the server when they start work on Monday, but I was wondering whether I

Samba print queues showing old jobs
We have a server running Centos-3 with all latest updates. The server hosts 3 printers for us which are accessed by various Windows clients. About 3 months ago we noticed that, after a cups update, if you looked at the print queues in Windows they would show old jobs that had long been printed. After a further cups update this quirk went away but it's just come backs again - possibly after

Samba server authenticating to NetWare server?
Hello, I've been Googling and O'Reillying around this problem for the last week without success, so I'm either stupid or it's not possible. My money's still on stupid. Can someone confirm that I can't do what I want to do: - Have a SuSE 9.1 Linux box running Samba 3.0 exporting shares by SMB. - Have users log into Windows boxes running a NetWare client,

rsync 2.5.5 port to Novell NetWare
Hullo, all. I diligently consulted the suggested reading on the way in: > Welcome to the rsync@lists.samba.org mailing list! PLEASE READ THIS > IMPORTANT ETIQUETTE MESSAGE BEFORE POSTING: > http://www.tuxedo.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html 'Twas a quick read, given that I'm the co-author. ;-> I recently received an odd inquiry from someone I didn't know at all,

Newbie (groan... !) Client Problem
I've studied the books, searched the list archives, etc. I suspect there is someone who can just tell me one thing to tweek, so I humbly beg your advice. Situation: I am playing with/learning Linux, intending to replace our two company Netware servers sometime in the next 6 months. At home, I have an NT4.0/SPC PDC, an NT4.0/SP6 docked laptop, and an HP server with RH7.1 or 7.2 (2.4.??

OpenSSH port to NetWare 6
I'm a software developer at Novell. I have been tasked with porting OpenSSH to the NetWare 6.0 OS. I would like to include my NetWare specific changes,#ifdef'd of course, in the portable releases at some point. Whom should I contact with regard to this? And are there any guidlines I can look at online to minimize any disturbance this may cause to other platforms? Any assistance that

APM on SMP kernel
I'm Currently running Centos 3.4 on an old Dell PowerEdge with dual PIII-450 processors. I know from searching that 'APM is not SMP safe' and so when I choose to reboot the server someone has to hit the power button to power down and then restart it. Most of the Web-based info I have found on APM and SMP is dated 2000-2002 so can anyone update me on whether there is now any way
