Another new disk format pushed to -unstable
Hello everyone, btrfs-unstable now has Yan Zheng''s fallocate support, along with disk format changes. I was hoping to roll all of this into a single format change with the compression code, but there was too much conflict between the two patches. The fallocate work is pretty neat, it allows preallocation of extents and overwrites them without triggering COW as long as there are no

New new format branch ready for testing
Hello everyone, Yan Zheng sent along an update for the new format patch today, and it slightly changed the disk format for backrefs used when balancing space across drives. We decided against supporting an intermediate format that was only a week old, and his update makes a few important features much much easier (snapshot deletion for one). If you''ve tried the newformat branch and run

[Patch v2] btrfs: use file_remove_suid() after i_mutex is held
V1 -> V2: Move kmalloc() before mutex_lock(), suggested by Arjan. file_remove_suid() should be called with i_mutex held, file_update_time() too. So move them after mutex_lock(). Plus, check the return value of kmalloc(). Signed-off-by: WANG Cong <amwang@redhat.com> Cc: Arjan <arjan@infradead.org> Cc: Chris Mason <chris.mason@oracle.com> Cc: Yan Zheng

[PATCH] Progs: update convert for uninitialized block groups
Hello, There is a new feature ''uninitialized block groups'' in ext4. Block and inode bitmaps in uninitialized block groups are uninitialized. This confuses the converter. The fix is call ext2fs_new_inode for each block group at open time. It set up uninitialized block and inode bitmaps appropriately. This patch also contains some other minor fixes. Thank you, Signed-off-by: Yan

system hang with btrfs master
I''m using btrfs on two devices here, /usr on sda3 and /home on sdb (dm-crypt device on the whole disk). With btrfs-master the whole system hangs when accessing /home. The system hangs when I''m logging in into my account with KDE and is easily reproducible with dbench. On /usr the hangs appeared also but not as often as on the /home-device. I''ve tested on a third

snapshot/subvol deletion
Hi, I will send a series patches that add snapshot/subvol deletion soon. But the way to delete snapshot/subvol is far from people''s expectancy. To delete a snapshot/subvol, we need four steps: 1) snapshot/subvol deletion ioctl or rmdir; 2) umount; 3) btrfsck; 4) mount the fs. The reason for this is bug in root back & forward references. In simple terms, the bug prevents us from

[PATCH] Make sure all dirty blocks are written at commit time
Write dirty block groups may allocate new block, thus may add new delayed back ref. btrfs_run_delayed_refs may make some block groups dirty. commit_cowonly_roots does not handle the recursion properly, so some dirty blocks can be left unwritten at commit time. This patch move btrfs_run_delayed_refs into the loop that writes dirty block groups, and make the code not break out of the loop until

[PATCH 05/12] Btrfs: Avoid orphan inodes cleanup during replaying log
We do log replay in a single transaction, so it''s not good to do unbound operations during replaying log. This patch makes orphan inodes cleanup executed after replaying log. It also avoid doing other unbound operations such as truncating a file during replaying log. These unbound operations are postponed to the orphan inode cleanup stage. Signed-off-by: Yan Zheng

[PATCH] speed up snapshot dropping
This patch contains two changes to avoid unnecessary tree block reads during snapshot dropping. First, check tree block''s reference count and flags before reading the tree block. if reference count > 1 and there is no need to update backrefs, we can avoid reading the tree block. Second, save when snapshot was created in root_key.offset. we can compare block pointer''s

[PATCH] Btrfs: make sure we find a bitmap entry
Yan Zheng hit a problem where we tried to remove some free space but failed because we couldn''t find the free space entry. This is because the free space was held within a bitmap that had a starting offset well before the actual offset of the free space, and there were free space extents that were in the same range as that offset, so tree_search_offset returned with NULL because we
