Samba shared folders and windows 7 permissions dialog.
Hi there Trying to solve an issue with samba and windows 7 permissions dialog. Problem is that sometimes windows 7 permissions dialog is lacking ldap users and groups. Looks like my problem is related to this one: https://forums.freenas.org/index.php?threads/users-and-groups-not-showing-up-in-windows-7.46023/ Sadly there is no solution in that thread. Consider the following setup: linux debian

Samba shared folders and windows 7 permissions dialog.
I think bad breath... ;-) noo... just joking .. sorry , ... ;-) It is may be help full if you provide a bit more info. Like for example OS = Samba version = The smb.conf content. And what did you setup? AD DC server NT4 PDC server Standalone server? Member server? And based on what you already posted below. Im guessing an AD DC setup, but with the wrong backend setup. But you tell

"uname -a" gives Linux 4.9.0-1-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.9.2-2 (2017-01-12) x86_64 GNU/Linux "samba -V" : Version 4.5.6-Debian It is a standalone server with "security = user" and "passdb backend = ldapsam:ldap://localhost" The weirdness I described happens to any share, so I assume detailed share configuration is irrelevant. Apart from this weirdness all

mod_auth_ntlm_winbind SSO
Hello We are trying to implement SSO with mod_auth_ntlm_winbind. We followed the instructions on [1], but have the issue that users can not authenticate with web browsers. In addition to that document we did the following extra steps: - chown root:winbind /var/lib/samba/winbindd_privileged/ - apache user (vagrant) is in group winbind - net setauthuser -U vagrant - smb.conf has: winbind use

Debian Jessie joining AD as member fails with "The object name is not found."
Hi all! To clarify, it must have been removed from the copy-pasta, but “net ads join -U” did produce a password prompt as expected. The dig command produced the following: root at host:~$ dig -t SRV _ldap._tcp.domain.local ; <<>> DiG 9.9.5-9+deb8u6-Debian <<>> -t SRV _ldap._tcp.domain.local ;; global options: +cmd ;; Got answer: ;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode:

Debian Jessie joining AD as member fails with "The object name is not found."
Hi all! I had originally been using a DHCP-assigned address. I have now switched to a static IP, but that didn't solve the problem (same error message). I'm attaching my resolv.conf, nsswitch.conf and krb5.conf files. I have not manually altered either of them, although krb5.conf appears to have been updated by some tool somewhere along the way because my domain is listed as the

3.2.11 not compiling on solaris 9 (libtalloc.so.1 error)
I am consistently getting "libtalloc.so.1: No such file or directory" when attempting to 'make' any version of samba. I've tried all of the suggestions from the list archives on this subject. Using Solaris 9 sparc. Current versions are: gcc 3.4.6 (sunfreeware pkg) samba-3.2.11 (and any other version of samba I try) Admittedly - compiling from source is not
