Help! Samba 3.0 can't use null password with OS X
When I made the move to 3.0, I noticed that smbclient no longer works
with null passwords. Am I missing something? I read the FAQ, which
suggests that the server is rejecting the null password. But I know
that null passwords work fine for the 2.2.8a client, so the server is
not the issue. The FAQ recommends "smbclient -L host -U%", but I
don't want to set the username to null. I

Strange behavior WinXP and 2.2.8a and inherit permissions
Hi,
I have a quite strange problem.
I have updated my Server with Suse 9.0 to Samba 2.2.8a. From that moment
on I couln'd run programms directly from the share anymore. The WinXP
Client says: "you dont have the permission for this file." But I have
all permissions for it. This only occurs in that shares where I have set
"inherit permissions" to yes. When I set it to

Solaris 9 + Samba 3.0.2rc1 problem
I thought I got them working and it turned out I still have the same problem.
This is a domain member server, joined to NT PDC. These commands are all working Ok: wbinfo -u, wbinfo -g, getent passwd, except getent group. It always stops at some point, I noticed these log messages:

client_read: read 0 bytes. Need 1568 more for

Serious bug in Samba 3.0.2pre1 !!!
Summarization of the bug in Samba 3.0.2pre1:
It seems that an ADS group is not valid or detected anymore to access a
samba share, in case only an ADS group is used a valid user on a Samba
share, because Kerberos is reporting: Username (null) is invalid on this
system.
Besides that, connecting to a share (service) reports with Samba 3.0.0-2
REALM\username (NH-TEST.NL\fo6), but with Samba 3.0.2pre1

Quote:
????A lot of people have complained about unreliable connections to W2K
and XP machines. The folowing patch solved the problems for us. I have
no idea why it works, but after this patch we had no more problems
connecting to workstations in the domain.

a good impression about the system
We want to use only Postscript for our printers.
The cupsaddsmb tool works great and printing with the cups driver is

Problems with XP <-> XP shares with Linux Samba PDC 3.0.2pre1 "the system cannot find message text for message number 0x in the message file for ..."
Hi all
I have a 5 machine network with 4 machines running XP Pro SP-1 and one (the
server) running Red Hat 9.0 with Samba 3.0.2pre1
Everything seems to run OK except when I try to connect to a shared folder
on an XP machine from another XP machine - sometimes this works, sometimes I
get "the system cannot find message text for message number 0x in the
message file for (the share name)"

smbldap-tools 8.3 populate errors
I downloaded the new 8.3 (tgz format) ldap-tools from IDEALX today. When I
run the smbldap-populate script I receive an error that it cannot find the
smbldap_tools.pm file. This file was not included in the tar file. If I
use the tools file from the samba 3.0.2pre1 distribution it is then expecting
the old smbldap_conf.pm file which has now been split in favor of the
/etc/smbldap-tools config. I

some problems with samba 3.0.2rc1
Hello list,
I upgraded from Samba3.0.1 to Samba3.0.2rc1 and got now following
problems:
LaserJet printers 6MP (sorry, we have no other LaserJet printermodels)
now couse the application to crash. With Samba3.0.1 there was no
probem with that kind of Printers.
I use the RPM's from ftp.sernet.de for SLES8.
Printingsystem is CUPS, with raw printing and serverbased
printerdrivers.

Problem adding a machine on the domain with samba-3.0.2rc1

In ldap the machine is created as top, inetOrgPerson and posixAccount

cross-realm spnego issue in 3.0.2rc1
Hi,
I just installed 3.0.2rc1 for testing, and I came across a problem with
cross-realm authentication. I joined samba to our active directory
domain, and I can see that it has host and cifs principals in windows
kerberos. Our organization's primary kerberos realm (CEDE.PSU.EDU) is an
MIT kerb5 realm, and we have a one-way non-transitive trust such that
windows (server 2003) kerberos
