Optimistic Locking Enhancements: Gem or Core?
I''m working on an app that makes use of rails'' optimistic locking feature and seeing some possibilities for improvements. It seems a bit tedious to have to add :lock_version to forms wherever the model is used. You also have to "hack" around rails'' UJS feature to add it as a URL parameter when using remote: true, method: [:put, :patch, :post, :delete].

Rails 4 and HABTM Checkboxes: Unpermitted parameters error
I have a simple Rails 4 project with two scaffolded models: Practice and Practitioner. I have set these both as habtm and am in the process of adding checkboxes to the Practitioner form so that I can check off the practices that this practitioner belongs to. In the practitioners_controller, I added practice_ids to the practitioner_params permit list, but I am still getting the error: Started

active_model_serializers, more than one level deep of associations, specifying serializers per association
I am assuming this an appropriate place to discuss this, but if it isn''t my apologies- just let me know. Just a Rails 4-ish thing. Am attempting to pull AMS (active_model_serializers), strong_parameters, and the "permitter" strategy that Adam Hawkins is using: http://broadcastingadam.com/2012/07/parameter_authorization_in_rails_apis/ Code so far is here (in the

attr_accessible on some properties + attr_protected on others makes class 'open-by-default'
(I posted this as a bug in GitHub (https://github.com/rails/rails/issues/7018), but then someone there told me I should post it here, so here it is.) If you set attr_accessible on some properties in an ActiveRecord-descended class, and then attr_protected on others - the class becomes ''default-open'' - if any properties are missed or added later, they will be accessible by

"best practices" for Rails serving RESTful JSON services for use by AngularJS, Ember.js, etc.
I''ve been writing a gem to implement and extend common controller functionality so that Rails can be used with Javascript frameworks like AngularJS (which we are using), Ember.js, etc. in such a way that the user doesn''t have to tweak a a bunch of rails g controller boilerplate code to provide services for use in these frameworks that in turn would require various changes to

scp without permitting shell access, possible?
[My apologies if this question is deemed inappropriate for this list.] Using OpenSSH, is it possible for a program/script to copy files with known filenames from a remote server (running sshd), without allowing (interactive) ssh access to that server? I.e. ``ssh server ls'' or ``ssh server'' should not be possible (for security reasons), but ``scp server:file .'' should.
