Notebook suspend instructions -- Gentoo to Centos
At: http://www.linux.com/article.pl?sid=06/05/24/1716222
are instructions for implementing suspend mode on a Linux notebook, but
the script is for Gentoo and it seems like Centos needs something else.
As this puts my system REALLY fast into Suspend, but it never comes back
out.
Further the temp file: var/tmp/video_state.XXXXXX is empty, so
something is not right.
Now for my system, HP

Centos 5.2 upgrade - urlopen error unknown url type: media
My first notebook upgrade:
I repaired my old HP nc4010 (bought a new hinge on ebay) and realized
this was the perfect way to test out the upgrade to 5.2 before doing it
on my production notebook.
First I updated to 'current' 5.1 (by current I mean I have not synced my
5.1 local repo since building my 5.2 repo). I had not used my nc4010
for a while and the kernel was at

asus-wmi.ko for Asus G73Sw running CentOS 6.2
Hi List,
Just loaded our favorite OS onto my new ASUS laptop.
Practically everything worked out of the box - I used the live DVD to
check things out and installed from there.
I have followed

to get suspend working and also to get function keys working for LCD

MOre on buring ISOs
So right now I have installed k3b on this notebook. I am using my Storix
DVD/CDRW usb drive. I can read cds with it.
Cannot burn CDs. First k3b suggests slowing down (from 8x to 4x). Then
use TAO. Then it gave up.
So I try cdrecord directly. -checkdrive finds some interesting things.
Got to close the drive manually; cdrecord says it can't. then try a
cdrecord -v dev=dev/scd0 sample.iso

Centos 5, X dies, I cry
I just installed Centos 5 for my notebook (HP compaq nc4010) on a
separate drive (than this one that has Centos 4.5).
When I first booted after all the setup, X did not start. hmm.
Rebooted, and X came up fine. I did a bunch of customizing and upgraded
the kernel

In the market for a new (old) laptop
Changes at my day job (we have a big merger being finalized), has me in
the market for a new laptop.
They may require me to only run the approved XP build on the system they
provide.
I do not know if they will fund another unit for me or not, so I am
looking to go cheap. Here is what I am looking for:
Runs Centos (duh!)
Supports Suspend to memory as well as to disk.

Getting JPilot working
I am trying to get JPilot working.
I have configed gnome-pilot-applet, but it is not talking to the USB
connected Treo650.
My Treo has my name as the user, so from the applet, I see also a userid
(my UID on this system it seems). I try to put that on the Treo and
nothing happens. I have enabled the Backup Conduit.
I am using /dev/pilot, which shows up when my Treo is connected via its
USB

Hi Friends,
I am trying to configure screensavers settings on Gnome and KDE

feature request: winbind use cached credentials more agressively
Hi!
Winbind is rather suboptimally reacts to networking changes.
I use my notebook in at least 3 different network settings, in one of them I
have very probabilistic access to DCs
(cisco vpn client is a crap).
An nss lookup sometimes takes very looong, sometimes even returns failure.
Sometimes I have to login as root and restart winbind to get to my X session
past the screensaver. This is far
