3.0.0rc ActionController::RoutingError No route matches
Have been developing on 3.0.0beta4 and just updated to 3.0.0.rc.
When I try to link_to() a User object that previously had worked, I
get the following:
ActionView::Template::Error (No route matches
{:action=>"destroy", :controller=>"games", :id=>#<User ..... >
Yet I have in my routes.rb file has resources :users and my "rake

Should an blank string be html_safe?
Just trying to implement a simple helper over the past few days had me
really confused.
messages = ''''
messages << content_tag(:p, ''dave'')
#=> <p>dave<\p%;gt;
Eventually I realised the original empty string was not html_safe
message = ''''.html_safe
message << content_tag(:p, ''dave'')

rails 2.3.8 and html_safe
Hi,
Can somebody update me on the state of html_safe strings in rails 2.3.8?
I know rails 2.3.6 and 2.3.7 broke a lot of code because strings were
being escaped when they shouldn''t have been and I thought this was all
fixed in 2.3.8.
I''m upgrading an app from 2.3.5 to 2.3.8 and there are many spots where
previous code was output correctly and now it expects html_safe method

unexpected results when extending methods to class Class and class Object
Hey all,
There''s a core Class class and core Object class in Ruby library:
http://www.ruby-doc.org/core/classes/Object.html
http://www.ruby-doc.org/core/classes/Class.html
First, let''s resolve the simple distinction between an Object and Class
as envisioned by Smalltalk but within the Ruby context:
#A class is a template used to define methods and properties

rvm install 1.8.7 prompts "There has been an error while running make. Halting the installation."
I want to work with both Rails 2 and Rails 3 projects.
I have RVM installed.
When I upgraded to Rails 3, Installed RVM via terminal:

Rails 3 flash message problems
The following code in my application_helper.rb class either eats the
flash message or escapes it and does not display properly:
# Outputs the corresponding flash message if any are set
def flash_messages
messages = []
%w(notice warning error).each do |msg|
messages << content_tag(:div, content_tag(:p,
html_escape(flash[msg.to_sym])), :class => "message

[patch] Let's use <%== %> instead of <%= raw() %>
I''ve submitted a small patch to make Rails behave properly with the
Erubis <%== %> construct. For some reason the current behaviour of
that tag in Rails 3 is to escape the contents _twice_ which is
probably a bug.
I offer three suggestions why this is a good idea:
- The syntax is cleaner. It can avoid a lot of .html_safe and raw in
your views. I especially like the conciseness of

Ruby variable that embeds html tags
This seems very simple, but I can''t quite get it. Probably because I''m
just starting out with RoR.
My view has a slew of labels and text fields; many are "required":
<%= f.text_field :screen_name %> <span class="required_field">Required
field</span>
(The "required_field" class turns the text red and smaller.) I''d like

undefined method error from atom builder
I have a simple controller that takes a request, looks up some data
and then returns the results as either HTML or Atom. The HTML response
works fine, but the Atom Builder is blowing up with an undefined
method error that I can''t figure out. It seems to be failing when the
ActiveRecord instance is passed to the ''entry'' method and it tries to
build the URL via the

ActiveModel::AttributeMethods limiting
In my attempt to add AM:Dirty to my model I realized that
AM#AttributeMethods is a bit imperfect. It''s impossible to generate
attribute methods step-by-step in DataMapper-like manner.

CentOS as Development Laptop?
Hi,
Is CentOS good for a desktop machine?
I have been using Fedora but the whole GNOME 3 debacle has me
scrambling for something else. I have a few "minimal" CentOS servers
but does anyone here use CentOS on their laptop?
Does wireless and suspend work ok?
Are there packages for the usual desktop stuff like libreoffice,
sylpheed and so on?
Machine is Toshiba Portege R935. It's

The model is setup correctly, I can retrieve data from the db fine. I
think it might be related to the helper but I have no idea where to
start. It seems to think its failing on the first line of the view, i

Puppet on RHEL3 - ruby-1.8.6 RPM
Hey folks,
I know there''s an old thread about this, and the provided solution to
make puppet work on RHEL3 was to recompile a more recent version of
ruby.
However, I think it would be nice to upgrade ruby from 1.6.8 to 1.8.6
with RPM, so here''s a quick tip for those who have to manage RHEL3
servers and would like to do it with puppet:

3 levelplots and 1 colorbar
I want to create a simple plot containing three levelplots with one colorbar.
I used the "Three levelplots" code below, but the third levelplot is drawn
smaller than the first two. However, if I try the "Two levelplots" code below
it works well. Can anybody tell me how could I draw three levelplots (of the
same size) with one colorbar.
Thanks in advance, Joaquin

Rails plugins new official maintainers
Hey guys,
This is the final list of the new maintainers of each plugin.
We need two more things to do:
First please the owners of the repos add the rest of the maintainers.
Second I will add a note on each rails/plugin mentioning this repos updates.
So from now on, if someone else is interested in helping/contributing
please send a message to the appropriate repo owner.

How to disable ORM in Rails 3
Is there any way to prevent Rails 3 from using an ORM? In Rails 2, it
used to have a description in environments.rb explaining how to do that.
In Rails 3, is there any way to tell it to not use any database? I was
trying to make some benchmarks from situations that don''t require a
database...
Thanks in advance,
Rodrigo.
