Problem with Rails3.1.1 in mass_assignment_authorizer
By accident I had Rails-3.1.1 installed by bundler. However, when I discovered this mishap during my feature run I encountered this error in many places: wrong number of arguments (1 for 0) (ArgumentError) /home/byrnejb/.rvm/gems/ruby-1.8.7-p352/gems/activemodel-3.1.1/ lib/active_model/mass_assignment_security.rb:209:in `mass_assignment_authorizer''

Confirmation fields on forms
I am unsure how to use a confirmation only field in my forms. The perfect example is when registering a user, you want them to type their password twice but you only want to have one record for it. The form fields; user[password] user[password_confirmation] form posted; user = User.new @params[:user] Error is thrown because there is no method for password_confirmation. -- Posted via

Ruby on Rails Tutorial Chapter 6 RSpec tests failing
Hello all: I''m a RoR newbie who is currently following the Ruby on Rails Tutorial: Learning by Example book (http://ruby.railstutorial.org/ chapters/modeling-users#sec:adding_a_secure_password). The following Chapter 6 RSpec tests are failing: Failures: 1) User [31mFailure/Error:[0m [31mit { should be_valid }[0m [31mexpected valid? to return true, got false[0m [36m # ./spec/models/

Problems with validates_lenght_of
I''m building a login system, and I want users to be able to update their password, first name and last name after signing up. So, when signing up password can''t be nil, and it must be between 6..20 characters long. However, on update, the user can choose to leave the password field empty (but fill in other stuff, like first name) and then I want the User model to not update

belongs_to causing NoMethodError exceptions ... ?
I''ve got a really strange problem using belongs_to. I apologize in advance for the length... this is going to take a while to explain. Basic idea: Creating a User requires that the user enter an email address and activation key that matches an existing PendingUser. After creating the user successfully, that pending user should be marked as "used". The problem: When I

validates_confirmation_of not working
Hello, I''m having a weird problem in my user model. For the change_password method I have the following: def change_password(oldpass, newpass, confirmation) oldpass = self.class.myhash(oldpass) reload passhash = self.password self.password = newpass self.password_confirmation = confirmation if valid? and oldpass == passhash save! else # valid?

rake spec controller test output hideus.
Is there any way to change the output of rake spec fails? The errors are just totally over the top ugly and not helpful. First of all the ruby -Ilib line always comes before each test and I find it distracting. But if an error occurs on something that is not nil it just gives me the entire contents of that object and that is no small matter when the object is a HTTP request response. Here is

ActiveModel::AttributeMethods limiting
In my attempt to add AM:Dirty to my model I realized that AM#AttributeMethods is a bit imperfect. It''s impossible to generate attribute methods step-by-step in DataMapper-like manner. class Model include ActiveModel::Dirty def self.property(name, klass = String) define_property_accessors(name, klass) # This method will be called once, because of

ActiveRecord::Validator vs ActiveModel::Validator
I know that there is an ActiveModel Validator class https://github.com/rails/rails/blob/master/activemodel/lib/active_model/validator.rb which is used for the class level validation macros. But I didn''t find a an ActiveRecord Validator class. From my understanding in Rails 3, validations have been moved into ActiveModel to leave ActiveRecord as an ORM. So now I see this Rails 3 code

Proposal for a new ActiveModel::Errors structure
There are few issues with the current ActiveModel::Errors class. Firstly, when an error is added to ActiveModel::Errors class via #add method (https://github.com/rails/rails/blob/master/activemodel/lib/active_model/errors.rb#L294) its translation is added. It should not be translated when being added, but only when being read. The second issue is a bit bigger. We''d like to create

Unexpected message on :attr_accessor
This may be a dumb noob issue, but I haven''t found any answers while seaching the forum-- I have a controller method def edit @user = User.find params[:id] @user.password_confirmation = @user.password end The User class has an "attr_accessor :password_confirmation" definition (so "password_confirmation" doesn''t exist in the users table). My spec

Recipes authentication & validates_presence_of
I''ve implemented Rails Recipe #31, Authentication, and I found that validating password and password_confirmation just doesn’t work while the method ‘password=(pass)’ is in the mix, but I need that for the salt/hashing, no? If I don’t use validations, the password gets hashed, salted and stored in the database fine. I can login with same username/password. However, if I want to
