Issues upgrading RSpec

rails console --sandbox is only half-baked
Recently I''ve found out some mentions to the "--sandbox" parameter to the "rails console" command. And I found the idea interesting, but since I''m using Sequel instead of ActiveRecord I guessed this wouldn''t work for me. But after talking about this subject in the Sequel mailing list, Jeremy Evans has brought to my attention that there are some

Arel - clone bug (and fix), feature requests
Hi all, I''ve been playing around with Arel this week (actually outside of Rails) and found an issue with the clone implementation. I''ve added a patch and a testcase here: https://github.com/codders/arel/commit/660f706491ac012cb133554cffeaa6b9ae6046e9 and made a pull request against the rails/arel repo. I''ve also been playing around with support for ordering on

Remove ActiveRecord::Relation#& alias for 'merge' ? (or at least only reference and not use in AR)
Would the core team be open to the removal of the ''&'' alias for ActiveRecord::Relation#merge? The reason is that in Ruby the ''&'' operator refers to an intersection of two sets of data, not a merge. (within the context of the Array class) Recently Arel added support for SQL Set Operators: 2-0-stable:

Issue with Arel::SelectManager and insert Method
Hello, Arel::SelectManager (arel 2.0.9) uses following statement to insert a new record: @engine.connection.insert im.to_sql, ''AREL'', primary_key_name, primary_key_value But in DatabaseStatements insert ist defined as: insert(sql, name = nil, pk = nil, id_value = nil, sequence_name = nil) Actually, Arel::SelectManager does not use the sequence name. This leads to issues

mb_chars.upcase and Ruby 1.9.2
I''m testing ruby-head through rvm but can''t get ''ação''.mb_chars.upcase == ''AÇÃO''... I get ''AçãO'' instead... This happens both for Rails 2.3.5 and Rails 3 beta 3... How can I get upcase to work correctly? Thanks in advance, Rodrigo. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Ruby

feedback on a few ActiveSupport::Multibyte patches
Hi all, In response to Rodrigo Rosas''s message about mb_chars.upcase not giving the expected result on 1.9, I''ve done some work in a fork to make String#mb_chars always return an instance of a proxy class, both with Ruby 1.8 and Ruby 1.9. The end result of the patch is (hopefully) to make Rails'' multibyte functionality behave the same way in 1.8.7 and 1.9.x.

Searching and returning arrays
im a begginer in RoR and am using rails 3.2.3 and ruby 1.8.7 This forum has helped me to progress but I''m confused by one thing. My app is supposed to allow seaching for results depending on the check boxes that are checked. In my case, when the user checks a determined facility and clicks "search" the corresponding hotels with only those facilities should be returned. I can

rake issues
Is there any reason why db:setup and db:reset don''t show any more on "rake -T db"? I guess any rake task that is defined only as a group of other tasks (without any ruby blocks attached) presents this problem. Also let me write this as a remember note to myself for when I have some time: the Rails Guides on Migrations should be updated to include instructions about db:load

My SCSS compiled CSS lacks "/assets" in the generated urls
Running "rake assets:clobber assets:precompile" will generate files like "application-xxx.css" with incorrect urls after upgrading to Rails 4. For example url(/fields/xxx.png) when it should be url(/assets/fields/xxx.png). For some unknown reason it worked once in development mode, but after running rake assets:clobber I can''t get it to work again... Any ideas

Lack of foreign-key constraints support in ActiveRecord
Is there any reason why AR has never supported foreign-key constraints? I can understand the lack of support for triggers and stored procedures since they are highly dependent on the database to create a wrap API around them. But this is not the case for foreign keys. This is specially important for open-source projects like Redmine/Chiliproject and Gitorious where you shouldn''t be

Default Test library
Along the same lines as the default javascript library discussion [1], why don''t we switch the default test library to RSpec? The stats [2] posted by Xaviar in the other thread seem to support that RSpec is the preferred way to test. How to disable ORM in Rails 3
Is there any way to prevent Rails 3 from using an ORM? In Rails 2, it used to have a description in environments.rb explaining how to do that. In Rails 3, is there any way to tell it to not use any database? I was trying to make some benchmarks from situations that don''t require a database... Thanks in advance, Rodrigo. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to

Capturing the sql from a statement without executing it?
Hi guys, Is there an elegant way to capture the sql that would have been executed by an ActiveRecord statement, without actually executing it? :) I''m imagining something like sql = User.find(1).groups.to_sql or perhaps sql = ActiveRecord::Base.capture_sql { User.find(1).groups } resulting in sql = ''SELECT * FROM groups INNER JOIN memberships.... WHERE users.id =

How does Spork help in requests specs?
Even with Spork, my requests specs are very slow to start running (about 7 seconds). I suspect Rails is booting each time I run "rspec -X spec/requests". Is that true? If so, is there any way I could instruct the web server to keep alive after the specs run so that it would be faster on next run? Are there any resources on how to have better performance on running requests specs

What is the point of using :format in routes?
Today I had a strange behavior that made me suspect of jQuery at first, but then it happened that I''ve faced two gotchas, one from CoffeeScript and one from Rails itself. I have something like this: routes.rb post ''/fields/:id.:format'' => ''fields#show'', as: :field, constraints: {id: /\d+/} post ''/fields/remove/:id''

[PATCH] Access to more Arel predicate types from where condition hash
I could use some eyes on https://rails.lighthouseapp.com/projects/8994/tickets/4368 if anyone has the time. Summary of the change: Similar to PredicateBuilder''s existing support for ''table.column'' => ''value'', this patch enables ''column#method'' => ''value''. For instance,

Is require_dependency supposed to be a public API?
If so, shouldn''t it be documented in the Rails API? Or is there a better way to allow class reloading of my files under lib. I mean, I know about config.autoload_paths, but I want to be explicit about my requires. I just want to be able to reload then on each request when I''m working on them. require_dependency seems to do just that but I''m worried since it is not

Correct Use or Naming of Migrations
Hi Folks, There is much discussion where I work at present regarding migrations, and the ''correct'' usage or not of them. TL;DR Should migrations be used just to modify schema, and other ''deploy'' tasks done other ways? If yes, how to ensure no repeat runs of such tasks (seeds, jobs etc) Background Once you''re live there are often additional things
