Fixtures vs Fixture class, what is the intended purpose?
Hello, i am trying to fix the code for fixtures in rails because it is buggy and internal variable names are confusing, could somebody please explain to me what is the intended purpose of Fixture and Fixtures classes respectively? For example, why do we need both `Fixtures.initialize`and `Fixture.initialize`? They both "initialize" a single fixture, and in fact `Fixture.initialize`

Rails 3 test database issues
I am having a problem using the test database in Rails 3. It apparently has kept track of aspects of the database that I deleted completely from my migrations at some point. I don''t always use the ''down'' part of a migration and sometimes just recreate the whole database. I did rake db:migrate:reset and rake db:test:prepare, but when I run my test it is trying to access

db:fixtures:load order
I was trying to deal with foreign key issues related to order of fixture loading when I came across this: http://techpolesen.blogspot.com/2007/04/rails-fixture-tips.html This got me looking deeper into rails and I noticed that db:fixtures:load calls Fixtures.create_fixtures once for each fixture file. However, Fixtures.create_fixtures is capable of taking multiple files and also handle the

populating development database from test fixtures
Hi, Is it possible to populate the development database from the test fixtures? I''m trying to keep the development database schema in a plain-text sql file and modifying that when I need to modify the database structure. However, then I have to either manually repopulate the database or add in additional sql statements that populate the test database. It seems like it would be useful

Strategies for Unit testing 2 databases
Hi, My application spans 2 (or more) databases for some very specific reasons... My models are working fine, even dynamically establishing connections as needed at runtime, and spanning relationships across the databases (which really impressed me). The problem is, I can''t seem to force Units for these models (that use a secondary db) to load their fixtures into and use the

Creating performance test fixtures from development db? How?
Hi all! I''m looking into the testing chapter of Agile Web Development With Rails (2nd ed.). I want to performance test my app, but I''m too lazy to write fixtures for performance test. I''d rather use the data from my development db (because the data is so close to the production data). How do I get the data into the test db without writing fixtures? Could you please

undefined method `inherit'' for Merb::Test::ExampleGroup
RSpeckers: I''m trying to install this into a Merb-generated RSpec rig: http://code.jeremyevans.net/doc/fixture_dependencies/ It requires inserting their test case into RSpec. This is the documented way to do it: describe ''Post'' do inherit FixtureDependencies::SequelTestCase And that leads to the syntax error in the subject line. (No stack trace is available

Fixtures and table name
Is there a way to use table name other than the default or to turn it around have multiple fixture files associated to the same table. Here''s my use case: I have multiple unit test classes that all work with the same model class and hence the same database table. However, for each test class I want the data to be in a different state. So I''d like to have something like class

Funny behavior with Fixtures... on Ubuntu..
Hey Guys, I''ve got a test class that loads a bunch of fixtures. My understanding is that fixtures are reloaded between each test... and I even have the following two method calls at the top of my test class to make doubly sure... class TaskTest < Test::Unit::TestCase self.use_transactional_fixtures = true self.use_instantiated_fixtures = false When I run my tests

Including ALL fixtures for a test
I am running into some issues with my functional tests because they need info from almost every single table in the database. I have long laundry lists of fixture names to include on these test files and then I have to troubleshooot bizarre test failures because of a fixture that was not included. So is there a way to simply include all fixtures in a test? Something like: fixtures :all

How to DRY with Fixtures (helper or extend Time class, how)?
I have a test/fixtures/users.yml like so: apa: id: 1 username: apa [...] created_at: <%=Time.now.strftime("%Y-%m-%d %H:%M:%S")%> updated_at: <%=Time.now.strftime("%Y-%m-%d %H:%M:%S")%> I don''t like how I''m repeating myself with the strftime bit. Is there some shorter Time method to format time for a (MySQL) datetime field that

Putting fixtures into subdirectories
I want to organize my fixtures just like the namespace of my models. So for example if I have a model Company::Employee I''d like the fixture to be in fixtures/company/employees.yml. However, I can''t figure out how to specify the path of the fixture file. If I do: fixtures :employees in my unit test it can''t find the fixture file. Any suggestions? Thanks, Todd

Upgrade server to run on Rails 2.3.2/F11
Note that one of the 8 patches (#6) will be sent separately in reply to this email, as some of the replaced lines are too long, so git won't let me send the email. However, there is nothing wrong with that patch, and it should be applied in the sequence listed below. Note also that I assume this will be tested on a clean f11 install, rather than an upgrade of an existing ovirt server

After Rails 2.3.2 upgrade: superclass mismatch for class TestCase (TypeError)
I upgraded a working app from rails 2.1 to 2.3.2. Now when I run rake test:units I get this error: /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/ activesupport-2.3.2/lib/active_support/test_case.rb:17: superclass mismatch for class TestCase (TypeError) I generated a new test app and all tests run OK. For the upgrade I ran rake:update and renamed the class in test_helper to ActiveSupport::TestCase. Also renamed
