Change the value stored in inheritance_column
I have been struggling for quite sometime with this. Is there any way to configure the Model to store user defined value in the inheritance_column instead of the default value (which is class_name) The problem I have is like this: I have a User model and there are different models which inherit from this like Admin, Premium, Professional, etc. Each of these inherited models are identified by a

Disabling ActiveRecord "type" column subclassing
Hi! I have a legacy table that has a column named "type" and need to remove this automatic subclassing by ActiveRecord. The api pages are vague about this, and I tried self.inheritance_column = "xtype" which seemed to get me half-way. In the validate_on_create method, the value of self.type was my model Class name. How would you disable this feature? -- Posted via

FIXED: Transaction is a reserved word, and it cannot be used even though I put it into its own module. So my guess is Transactions::Transaction still somehow got resolved to the Rails internal Transaction class. Renamed the Transaction (and its subclasses) to Transact and it works fine now. Re: STI and Joins Broken
I''ve made a inheritance rework some weeks ago that would possible fix it since it only loads the inheritance support in the class that''ll use it. In STI case, it would load only if the class that descends directly from AR has been inherited and the column specified in the inheritance_column is available. People here told me to wait until next release so we can dig into this, but

Strange indexing issues with CachedModel, STI, and AAF
I started using robotcoop''s CachedModel class in my project but have encountered problems when using it with the acts_as_ferret plugin. It seems it doesn''t index everything in my STI model, also if I do a search from my base STI class I get a result count but no results. If I run the same search from one of the children STI models I get the appropriate results (if the information

Problem retreiving catalog
I updated some of my gems, and I think it may be the reason I am getting the following error when the agents try to retrieve a catalog. err: Could not retrieve catalog from remote server: Error 400 on SERVER: The single-table inheritance mechanism failed to locate the subclass: ''Host::Managed''. This error is raised because the column ''type'' is reserved for

How to best change the default value of dasherize (using Edge Rails, and knowing about :dasherize => false)?
Hi all, I''m trying to turn off dasherize in all cases, since converting underscores to hyphens breaks the way that I want to handle XML (with E4X in Flex 2). I''ve read the other threads about dasherize on this list. I''m on Edge Rails, so I can successfully turn off dasherize for a single usage with something like render :xml => @task.to_xml(:dasherize => false)

STI and type tables?
So by default to get STI, I would have something like: create_table :items do |t| t.column "type", :string t.column "title", :string end But if I want to store those type values in a separate table, such that I have ... create_table :items do |t| t.column "item_type_id", :string t.column "title", :string

How to model Hibernate multi-table inheritance with ActiveRecord?
Hi I have this "old" database mainly modeled for Hibernate. The java model has something called Asset. Asset is inherited by SomeAsset and AnotherAsset and the similar stuff is in the asset table and the specific data for SomeAsset is in table some_asset and for AnotherAsset in another_asset. This is then reflected in hibernate using a <joined-subclass/> element. What would
