Passing extra parameters to functions called from Observers
Hi again, When you have an ''obeserver'' setup as follows: $(''myForm'').observe(''submit'', validateForm); If a user submits the form the ''validateForm'' function is called and is automagically passed the ''event'' to work with. This is fantastic! But is there a way to pass another argument to the function?

Element.focusFirstElement() causing issue with Element.addMethods()
Prototype 1.6.0.2 Internet Explorer 7 I''ve found that when I call $(''myform'').focusFirstElement(); to set focus on the first field in my form, that this statement "wrecks" the extensions I''ve added using Element.addMethods() if it executes before Element.addMethods(). When I try to call one of my exenstions, the IE7 JavaScript interpreter throws an

RE: Question about event listener highlighting withchild elements
1. Create a separate class that has your highlight/unhighlight behavior in it, and extend just the element you want to highlight with that class... like this (also allows you to easily apply this behavior elsewhere when you need it in the future): Object.extend(this.el, HighlightBehaviorClass.prototype) 2. When defining your event handlers, assign them to variables so you have a

[Prototype] Ajax.Request include form fields?
Hi, Is it possible to submit my form (or part of my form) with an ajax request? I had been using dojo to do this, but having just read up on the prototype library, I think I''d rather use prototype. The one thing I don''t see (maybe I''m just missing it) is the ability to submit my form (actually just parse through an element and include all inputs as request parameters)

afterFinish option not working as expected
Hello, I''m trying to use the afterFinish parameter on the BlindDown effect, but it''s not working as I expect it to. My function appears to be called just as the effect is starting, not when the BlindDown is complete (finished drawing). Here''s the code that I''m using for the most part... Effect.BlindDown( mydiv, { afterFinish:Form.enable(myform) } ) Any

Ajax.InPlaceEditor: controls.js update
I''m not sure if this is a bug or not, but I had to patch controls.js file to accommodate the idea that I had planned. I had to combine Ajax.InplaceEditor and AutoCompleter for a "tagging" feature at my office. With the autocompleter, I need to target an INPUT FIELD by ID. However the generated INPUT field from the Ajax.InPlaceEditor did not include this attribute in

Assigning submit handler to form
Hi folks, A quick question for somebody. I''m adding a simple validation JS to my form by attaching it like so: $(''my_form'').observe(''submit'', function(e) { return view_ns.validate_form(Event.element(e)); }); The validate_form() function returns true or false. But regardless of it''s return value, the form is always submitted. ''sup wi

Cross Broswer Fire Event
Is there a standard way of programmatically firing an event on an element? I think this code works in IE but not FF: myElement.fireEvent(''onclick''); I really only care about IE and FF, but anything else is a bonus. I didn''t see anything in prototype/scriptaculous for this, but I might have missed it. Thanks. Joe Athman

sortables and onClick events firing
I have a page that I have been tasked with adding sortable support to, and the div elements that are being dragged have a <a href> in them with an onClick handler that opens a new window with a preview. Is there a way to keep that onCLick from firing when a sortable is dropped? Sam D _______________________________________________ Rails-spinoffs mailing list

Anonymous function variable scope issue
Hey all, I joined this list mostly because I don''t see too much in the OO javascript arena, and I have q''s (of course). I have a little pet project I am working on, you can see it here: http://thinkof.net/notify/index.html I have a class Notify.Alert() that takes some options and displays a div alert instead of a javascript one. Currently it is configurable to allow

Attaching event observers to a series of elements - best practice?
Hi all, New member here. I''ve been working with Prototype for a while, and I love it. However, there''s one thing I still can''t figure out. Let''s say I have an array of objects, representing contacts in an address book: var contacts = [ { id: 1, firstName: "Bob", lastName: "Smith" }, { id: 2, firstName: "Sue", lastName:
