Does String.evalScripts() work on well-formed script tags?
Does String.evalScripts() work when the opening SCRIPT tag of a SCRIPT
block contains common attributes? I''ve tried and it does not appear
to be working. Here''s an example:

//
<!--
alert(''look! it works!'');

Element.addMethods functions swallowing exceptions (IE6 + 7)
IE6 and IE7 are not correctly handling the ''throw'' command for
functions attached to Element via Element.addMethods. Firefox and
Safari are fine.
See the example below.
For IE6: functions called with no attributes (ie: funcName())
correctly handle thrown errors. Funcions called with attributes (ie:
funcName("foo")) will respond to the throw command and pass execution

Contribution on extending createElement
Hi all,
I work a lot with scripts that modify the DOM, and I have always found
quite annoying that the code would always get very verbose as soon as
I wanted to create even simple structures :
var my_div = document.createElement(''div'');
var my_anchor = document.createElement(''a'');
my_anchor.setAttribute(''href'',my_link);
var my_text =

Element.addMethods() is not a function after upgrade to 1.7.0
After upgrading to prototype 1.5.0 and scriptaculous 1.7.0 my
autocompleter.local died... firebug reports that effects.js is to
blame calling Element.addMethods();
I can not find out why cause as far as I can see it does exist in
prototype.js.
Any pointers anyone :(

element has no properties error.
Hey all,
I''ve recently started messing around with Prototype again, so I
thought I''d start small and write 5 lines of code that would check if
all fields in a form are filled out. So I thought
document.observe(''dom:loaded'', function() {
$(''submNewUser'').disable();
new Form.Observer($(''newUser''), 0.3, function(e, val) {

return element.offsetWidth;
},
getTop: function(element) {
element = $(element);

proposing $E & $T
Hey all,
I''ve had these functions for some time now, and would like to offer them
as two new dollar-sign functions - elements to be extended by Prototype
geniuses. :-)
makeText(string) as $T() - return text node element
Does just what it says... I''m sure someone could extend it nicely when
via Prototype.
(example) var x = $T(''hello world'');

Abstract insertion question
Hi,
In the following block of Prototype.js when will the catch() block
run? I cannot create conditions in Opera where it will run.
Thanks,

this.element.insertAdjacentHTML(this.adjacency, this.content);

1.6 cheatsheet
Hey has anyone seen a 1.6 cheatsheet around?
Johnathan Snook did a nice 1.5 one but I''ve been working with 1.6 for a
while and while I can use prototypejs.org, cheatsheets are handy for jogging
memories..
I checked his blog, nothing there for 1.6.

show sum of textboxes
Hi all,
I have multiple textboxes containing numbers. I want to add up all the
numbers and show the sum. Can I select the textboxes by class and sum
the content?
This also has to happen realtime: when a number is changed ina textbox
the sum should also change.
can this be done?
regards,
Stijn

How to use the sortable_element tagname option?
I''m having some difficulty adding drag-and-drop sorting to my
application. I''m hoping that someone can help me figure out what I''m
doing wrong:

<tr id="view-item-<%= item.id %>"....

Having trouble using data returned by Ajax.request
Hello everyone, I''m new here.
I''ve been working with prototype and plotr for about a month now, off
and on, and I have pretty much hit the wall on using the data returned
by Ajax.Request.
I''m using some php code to return a string:
{''foo'': [[0,0.0865334429075127], [1,0.0828179861705063],
[2,0.0828173042602942], [3,0.0841707718624196]]}

Extending DOM elements addressed by "this"
I have a function that needs to be attached to a bunch of text fields
when the page loads. I would like to use the Prototype methods that
are added to DOM elements by using the $() function, but I in the
function it refers to things with "this". For example,
this.style.borderColor.
Is there a way to extend elements from the kind of scope I am looking
at? For example, is there a way to

PeriodicalUpdater onComplete broken?

Difficulty using match
A have an observer watch for a click on a link. Inside the triggered
function, I want to extract a piece of information from the URL.
Currently I am able to do:
alert(Event.element(el));
This displays the url string of the link, which is exactly what I need
to work with. However, when I try:
Event.element(el).match(//);
I get a javascript error "selector.match is not a function". I

Disabling anchor clicking in a draggable
Hey guys
I have an interesting problem - I have some draggable elements (sortable
actually), with links () inside them. I want the user to be able to
click on the link, however if the user drags the element I don''t want
the link to get fired. Can anyone think of a way to do this? It only
needs to work in Firefox.
Cheers
