Apache 1.3 + remote FastCGI balancing
Cheers, As I have a lot of stability problems with Lighttpd + FastCGI-Cluster I wanted to test Apache 1.3 as most of the "big" sites like 43people or BaseCamp run on it. Every example I find only talks about lokal FastCGI processes and not about remote ones and explains how the requests are balanced. Are there any good examples out there and can Apache1.3/mod_fastcgi load balance

Hosting on VPS
I have a VPS account with 256MB guaranteed RAM. I am running it as Apache1.3 -> Pen -> mongrel_cluster (with 2 mongrel servers). "top" shows 2 "ruby" instances (I guess for both of the mongrel servers), each weighing in at about 25MB. Does that sound about right? If you are using 2 mongrel servers per client app, does that mean that each RoR app needs 50MB+

Apache2+fcgid = "malformed header from script" when page starts with a space
I was getting some "application failed to start properly" pages, but production.log was not showing anything. Looking closer I''ve noticed that server_error.log (the apache log) was giving lines like: "malformed header from script. Bad header=<html>: dispatch.fcgi, referer:" I was able to determine the cause, and that was that some pages were starting with a space

Errno::ENXIO (Device not configured) when using net/https from rails
Cross posting this to the rails list in case it might be rails specific. I really have no clue on this one. OS is Freebsd 6.1. I have the following code that creates a https connection from within a rails controller. Works fine except that if it doesn''t get called for a few hours it starts throwing an exception until I restart rails (apache1.3 + scgi). I wonder if something here

Multiple Ajax.Request or Ajax.Updater
I''m having a problem with multiple Ajax.Updater instances. I have five small chunks of data being loaded into my homepage, and they seem to be firing off one at a time. So the pieces load up in the order they were called. Maybe I''m being a noob, but shouldn''t all those requests just fire away and then place the content as it gets received? I was doing multiple versions,

Reload an application without restarting the Server?
Hi, I would like to set up a "shared hosting"-like rails environment on a linux (+Apache1.3 +FastCGI +MySQL) machine. As we all know, rails provides support for different environments. Now I would like to enable my "users" to switch individual applications between development and production mode. In theory, all they have to do is to add

strange behavior of directory window in this EditPlus
Hi, I am using EditPlus through wine, where the trial version of it can be download from : ftp://ftp.editplus.com/epp221_en.exe The installer works all right, and program can be started without any problem at all. Just one strange behavior of it, here is the way to reproduce it 1. start editplus 2. view->make sure the "Directory Window" is ticked 3. browse to any directory which

Run fastcgi in Apache 1.3, or proxy through lighttpd?
I''m working with a guy who has Apache 1.3 installed on his server, and it''s not an option to simply use lighttpd for a Rails application I''m helping him with. I''ve seen that Apache 2 apparently is crappy when it comes to fastcgi, but 1.3 isn''t so bad. I can then either just run my app straight in Apache, or I could proxy it through to lighttpd. Which

RoR on Apache2
Hello, I''ve been going though the "4 Days on Rails" tutorial at http://rails.homelinux.org/ test-driving ruby on rails using the WEBrick server without problems. I''m trying to move the app to be seen by apache2, and am having some troubles. I''ve looked through many guides online which all say pretty much the same thing, which, I think, I am doing.

redirect_to in IE6
I''ve scoured through the forum and I haven''t found anyone else talking about this problem. The login to my app directs authenticated users to a home page using redirect_to. This works fine with firefox but for some reason IE6 has a problem with. I have checked session info and that is just fine but instead of redirecting to the specified page IE6 redisplays the login page. As I

Problems with AJAX and IE6
I have been using AJAX for a while in IE6 and Firefox without any problem. A few days ago, some IE6 machines quit working and looking at the log, the request never reaches the server. The weird part is that some other IE6 machines work fine as well as Firefox. The link is using form_remote_tag function. Any ideas of what''s going on? Thanks in advance, Santiago

attribute selectors: IE6 compatibility and enhancements
Hi All, I''ve posted a patch a couple days ago to bring IE6 compatibility and enhancements to Brian Donovan''s attribute selectors. It''s here: http://dev.rubyonrails.org/ticket/5170 What it does: * adds full IE6 compatibility to attribute selectors. * adds ^=, $= and *= operators * replaces != (not in spec) by :not(X) which is applicable to ALL operators, so you can

Problems with slide up/down in IE6 and Opera
Hi! I''m trying to create a simple menu using Effect.toggle(''outer-div'', ''slide''). The menu containes 2 divs - the first one is a list of links and span elements, the second one is just plain text with an image in the background. In ff 1.5 everything works fine. In opera 8.5 span elements from the first div are visible until sliding up ends or

Slider problems in IE6
Hi, Sorry to report a bug here, but since the web site (well, just the Wiki part of it) seems to spend more time being unavailable than not, I don''t have much choice. I''m using IE version 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519. I''ve developed a small page that uses the sliders -- specifically, a single slider with two handles), which works fine in

IE6 Text Selection Problem
Hi Guys, I have a problem with IE6. Using any version of prototype and any version of scriptaculous IE loses the ability to select text by dragging the text cursor over it. You can double/treble click text, or use shift and the arrow keys but you cannot use the mouse. This applies to text in both input and fixed elements. Has anyone else got this, or knows how to fix it? Cheers Paul Shannon

Session and flash now working in IE6
Hi all, I noticed that my sessions and flashes are not working in IE6 (no problem with safari or firefox). I did a <%= debug session %> and indeed IE6 is showing session[:new_session] to be true all the time. This means a new session is created for every request. An old version of the same application is running on the same server under a different subdomain. In this sessions are

form_remote_tag and 302 redirects under IE6 bug
I believe I''ve found a bug in which a custom HTTP code handler in the code generated by form_remote_tag does not get called under IE6. The below example simply redirects the browser to the value in the location header when it gets back a 302 redirect: #### start code #### <%= form_remote_tag :url => {:action => "comment", :id => @article},
