Fixed zeros in tables
Hello All R Users,
Function loglm() in library MASS can be cajoled to accomodate
structural zeros in a cross-classification table. An example from
Fienberg demonstrates how this can be done.
My question is: Can the function glm() perform the same task? Can
glm() estimate a log-linear model with fixed zeros like loglm()?
Thanks for your help,
Andrew

lme unequal random-effects variances varIdent pdMat Pinheiro Bates nlme
How does one implement a likelihood-ratio test, to test whether the
variances of the random effects differ between two groups of subjects?
Suppose your data consist of repeated measures on subjects belonging to
two groups, say boys and girls, and you are fitting a linear mixed-effects
model for the response as a function of time. The within-subject errors
(residuals) have the same variance in

summary in Hmisc and Latex
Dear all,
With the latest update of Hmisc I no longer have any problems with latex. However using the ctable option produces latex code that at least on both the miktex distribution at work and mactex distribution at home refuses to run due to an extra blank line inserted between the multicolumn lines in the latex code... It runs fine if the line is deleted or if the ctable option is left out.

mosaic 0.4 on CRAN
One of the products of Project MOSAIC (funded by an NSF CCLI grant)
has been the development of an R package with the goal of making it
easier to use R, especially in teaching situations. We're not quite
ready to declare that we've reached version 1.0, but version 0.4 does
represent a fairly large step in that direction. You can find out
more about the package on CRAN or by installing

Latex problem in Hmisc (3.8-1) and Mac Os X with R 2.11.1
Dear all,
I did post this more or less identical mail in a follow up to another
question I posted, but under another heading. I try again, but now
under the correct header.
upon running this code (from the Hmisc library-latex function) I
believe the call to summary.formula is allright and produces wonderful
tables, but the latex command results in a correct formatted table but

How to extract R{i} from lme object?
Hi, lme() users,
Can some one tell me how to do this.
I model Orthodont with the same G for random
variables, but different R{i}'s for boys and girls, so
that I can get sigma1_square_hat for boys and
sigma2_square_hat for girls.
The model is Y{i}=X{i}beta + Z{i}b + e{i}
b ~ iid N(0,G) and e{i} ~ iid N(0,R{i}) i=1,2
orth.lme <- lme(distance ~ Sex * age, data=Orthodont,

Analyzing binary data on an absolute scale and determining conditions when risks become equal between groups
Suppose I have a binary outcome (disease/no disease and all subjects had the same period of exposure) and 2 or 3 (categorical) predictors.
I can obviously build a logistic regression model which describes the data, possibly including interaction terms, on a relative scale:
model<-glm(disease~sex*race*prematurity,family=binomial)
1) Is there any way to extract information on the absolute

longitudinal imputation with PAN
Hello all,
I am working on a longitudinal study of children in the UK and trying the PAN package for imputation of missing data, since it fulfils the critical criteria of taking into account individual subject trend over time as well as population trend over time. In order to validate the procedure I have started by deleting some known values ?we have 6 annual measures of height on 300 children
