replace Windows 2003 dc / dns issues
Hi guys, I'm about to replace an existing Windows Server 2003 Active Directory domain with Samba4 (package from Debian Wheezy). Joining the Samba4 dc according the Samba Wiki[1] is working great, replication works without errors from both worlds (windows or samba). After transferring the fsmo roles with ntdsutil to the samba4 domain controller (btw: does it matter if ntdsutil or samba-tool

Error Demoting DC Windows from Domain
If your replication is good and all is verified, you can turn off the windows DC. I suggest, leave everyting as is. Wait 3-5 days. Verify you logs. Meanwhile, read https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Demoting_a_Samba_AD_DC Then when you 100% sure, you can remove it. Migrating samba4 dc from an instance with static/external dns to a fresh install with dynamic/internal dns
Dear list, I want to migrate our existing samba4 dc with a static/external dns backend, to a new install with internal dynamic dns backend. Given: DC1 - existing samba4 dc with static/external dns running quite old build (to be updated to version 4.3 before the migration starts) DC2 - new samba4 dc with internal dynamic dns (running 4.3 version) What is the best way to do such migration?

dns zone type (primary,ad integrated)
hi guys, is there a possibility to change dns zone options with samba-tool ? if I create a zone with samba-tool on the Windows Dc, I need to set "--client-version=w2k", otherwise the command fails. But with that option I get a primary zone (not ad integrated) on the Windows server. I know it's possible to change that manually, but if there is an option to fix that with samba-tool,

Error Demoting DC Windows from Domain
Hi, >If your replication is good and all is verified, you can turn off the windows DC. >I suggest, leave everyting as is. Wait 3-5 days. Replication between Samba 4 DC are OK. However, sometimes problems arise between Windows Server 2008 and Samba 4 records, usually related to attributes of 2 or 3 specific computers. I edit the Samba registry with ldbedit and everything is OK. After a

vestigial DNS entries
I am running samba 4.2.0 as an AD with internal DNS. I had an earlier version of Samba4 that was running old code and the system had gotten cluttered up from my learning process. I chose to replace it by bringing up a new Samba4 DC, letting them sync, then promote the new, and demote the old. That all worked flawlessly. Eventually I destroyed the old Samba4 system. Today I tried to play

DNS replication and BDCs
Hi, For normal readers you kn ow already my setup, but for those new here, I have a Samba4 PDC and two BDCs one a samba4 and the other a W2k8 R2 machine. Yesterday we had problems with our upstream service provider and my PDC (Backend BIND 9 DLZ) went down for some hours, as you might guess my whole AD was down due to the fact that the main DNS was down. I would like youi to point me or tell

Horrible BIND9_DLZ DNS breakage after DC replaced and samba-tool domain demote --remove-other-dead-server
Hi List, We are running through testing our migration to Samba4/AD domain and hit an odd issue. We set up one new VM as a legacy PDC and performed a migration on this machine. All went fine. We added a second DC with no issues. We then simulated the first DC going away by unplugging the VM NIC and did an FSMO seize. The next step was to reinstall the original VM from scratch as a new DC on
