Looking for way to monitor dsync, confirm it is or isn't running
I am syncing two Dovecot sites using the dsync function.
I would like to be able to run some sort of periodic health check to
confirm that dsync is (or is not) running properly between the two
sites, and alert me if dsync is failing or lagging excessively.
Does anyone know of a tool to do this? (If possible, something I can
set up to run periodically in Nagios?)
Thanks for any suggestions.

mdbox and folders containing both messages and sub-folders
I've got Dovecot 2.2r5 (Ubuntu package version 2:2.2.0~rc5-0~auto+1
from the "testing-auto/dovecot-2.2" repository on xi.rename-it.nl)
running on a brand-new Ubuntu 12.04.2 server.
I'm trying to configure Dovecot (using the "mdbox" mailbox format) to
allow folders to contain both messages and sub-folders. However, it's
not working consistently.
I need to have

Xen not seeing all the memory in the box
I''m running Xen 4.1 (4.1.3-3ubuntu1.3) on an Ubuntu 12.10 server with
an AMD FX-8150 processor (8 cores) and 16 GB of RAM.
When I boot the server, Xen sees only 3 GB of RAM (instead of 16 GB).
If I try to create a domU with more than about 1.5 GB of RAM, the create
fails with messages saying it "could not allocate memory for HVM guest".
Here''s the output when I do

Maildir with LAYOUT=fs not working
I'm considering converting a Cyrus system (managing my family's
e-mail) to Dovecot. I'm trying Dovecot 1.1.15 on an Ubuntu 9.04
(2.6.28-11-server) system. My production server is currently
running Cyrus 2.3.14.
Since I have a huge number of folders and subfolders, I need to use
LAYOUT=fs. However, it's not working consistently.
I tried setting up a test account in Thunderbird

doveadm + dsync merging
doveadm already supports some nice things, such as being able to remotely launch a doveadm command via TCP socket. It also supports executing a command for all users or to some specific users using a wildcard. dsync could use these features, so I merged dsync and doveadm into same binary for v2.1.
I'll still install "dsync" symlink pointing to "doveadm", and running that

It works with one more change on top of your patch:

dsync “destination” argument
Hello,
Some code that I didn?t write but am maintaining passes a local script?s path as dsync?s ?destination? argument, like so:
dsync -D -u john -v backup -R -1 "/code/dsync_client.pl" 127.0.0.1 john at mydomain.org
dsync_client.pl establishes a TCP connection with a remote dsync process then acts as a proxy between the two dsync processes. ?127.0.0.1? and ?john at mydomain.org?

dsync: error with hierarchy separator
Hi list!
I have a problem with transfering mails from mbox to maildir format. On
dovecot wiki I found a dsync tool, which looks good, but returns me an

problems when using dsync between servers
Hello,
I'm trying to migrate from maildir++ to mdbox. The maildir++ is a
leftover of our previous setup (was using courier)
We have 3 virtuals servers for our +70000 accounts.
Now, I'd like to use mdbox, so I'm trying using dsync for that. I setup
a new virtual server, configured for mdbox.
1st, I tried a basic setup: I established a file with all my accounts

Using dsync to export mail to remote IMAP account
I've read the web/man pages on dsync, but it's not clear to me whether
dsync can be used to export (rather than import) a user's mailbox to a
remote non-dovecot IMAP account.
(The intention is to use it whenever a user leaves and wants to copy their
local mail to Google or whatever. I currently use uw-imapd's mailutil --
it works, but it's dreadfully slow.)
As a first crack

Dsync Header Hashing
Is there any way to disable the header hashing in dsync?
I'm doing a one-time migration to Dovecot using imapc. The FETCHes for
Date & Message-ID take a non-trivial amount of time and it's not clear
to me if they have a function for a one-time migration.

Dsync Panic
Hi,
Using dsync to backup my users' mailboxes (dovecot 2.2.10 on both sides), I sometimes encounter the following issue.
Below is the output of: dsync -Dvf -u "user" -R backup ssh root at server.domain.tld dsync -u "user"

dsync backup gets stuck... fails
More dsync issues. We were running 2.1.7 and we updated to 2.1.9. Same
problem with both versions.
I'm getting an error 75 on about 40 boxes out of 1800. It is the same
list of boxes every time we use 'dsync backup' to backup the server.
dsync seems to stop communicating to the backup box (over ssh). strace
just shows it sitting at a epoll_wait. Once the program quits (times
out?), a

dsync changing source permission to "root" in backup mode
Hi,
We have dsync failing once in a while when running in "backup" mode.
What's strange is that the result is that the file permissions on the
*source* machine ends up with the wrong permissions (set to uid 0).
Even though the dsync manual clearly says:
"Backup mails from default mail location to location2 (or vice versa, if
-R parameter is given). No changes are ever done
