yum through a squid proxy
Hello,
I've got a centos5 box that is now behind a what was transparent squid
proxy. The proxy now has it's own dedicated ip and uses proxy basic
authentication. I've got a firewall that redirects all outgoing port 80
traffic to that ip so anyone wishing access goes proxied. The problem is yum
on my centos5 can't retrieve the .xml files for the various yum
repositories. In

lynx on 4.8-stable
I recently installed 4.8-stable. When running
lynx, I can only access sites outside my LAN by launching lynx
as root. I can't access external sites if I launch lynx using
sudo or after su-ing to root. I've searched archives and
googled, and haven't found anything on this. It happened immediately
after the upgrade, before any post-installation configuration, i.e.

HTTP encapsulated rsync??
Hi folks, I am hoping someone here can offer some suggestions. Here
is my situation:
I am using rsync over the internet for several hundred clients to
keep them in sync with a master repository of files. The rsync
daemon is listening on port 80, because most of the clients are
behind firewalls that only allow outbound port 80 (and other common
ports). This works fine for most of them

Hi,
I find myself in a complicated situation and would like to ask the

the continuous release repo and the yum config for this repo says

well, I definitely do not want to allow worldwide outgoing http so I

Problem with portaudit's database
Hello!
Yesterday portaudit notified me about squid's vulnerability, but today it
didn't (despite I haven't upgraded squid). This has attracted my attention,
so I've compared yesterday's and today's auditfile.tbz:
-r--r--r-- 1 root wheel 29875 Sep 6 15:40 auditfile.tbz
vs.
-r--r--r-- 1 root wheel 5685 Sep 7 10:11 auditfile.tbz

squid transparent proxy problem
Greetings,
I installed a squid 3.1.10.i686 squid to a centos 6.2i686. The proxy is
working fine with the default config.
After I decided to use it as a transparent proxy, I added two lines to
config: http_proxy 10.0.5.1:3128 transparent, always_direct allow all
http_port 10.0.5.1:3128 transparent

Transparent Squid and FirewallD : fine-tuning question
Hi,
I just setup a very basic HTTP proxy with Squid on a router running CentOS 7.
Up until early 2020 I've been using a bone-headed shell script with iptables to
configure my firewall. But I decided to follow advice from a few gurus on this
list, and I've since moved my configurations to FirewallD, which works nicely.
There's one configuration left to tackle, that's port

firefox-60.5.0-2.el7.centos.x86_64 and Netflix
Hi all,
Since the last upgrade to firefox-60.5.0-2.el7.centos.x86_64 on my
CentOS 7, it is no longer possible to watch Netflix with my Firefox, it
always says that "Firefox is installing components needed to play the
audio or video on this page. Please try again later."
But nothing happens and Netflix is no longer readable with Firefox...
I tried downgrading to

Netflix
Now that netflix is in Australia, I wouldn't mind giving it a burl. It's
working fine on my fedora-21 lappy with chrome-40 but not on our centos-6
mythtv setup even with chrome-41. I understand the difference might be the
version of NSS - fedora-21 has 3.17 while centos is stuck at 3.16. Other than
that, I'm flumoxed.
Anyone got netflix running on centos-6?
Cheers

Watching Netflix movies on CentOS
Has anyone here been able to view Netflix movies on CentOS? (It requires
Internet Explorer, and I'm wondering what the workaround is for Firefox)

Squid3 on CentOS 6.6: IPv6 PTR endianess
Hello,
I'm running a Squid cache (Version 3.1.10) on CentOS 6.6 as a forward proxy which is reachable over a global IPv6 address.
For whatever reason, Squid tries to perform PTR lookups on the client's IPv6 address.
The weird thing is, that Squid seems to struggle with the "endianess" of the IPv6 address blocks.
For example:
My current client IP is

Yum Issue
Yum using proxy that requires authentication and a Password that
contains the two characters \/ fails
normally I can get yum to work with a proxy that requires authentication
when required by doing something like
http_proxy=http://<my username>:<my password>@<proxy server>:<proxy
server port>
export http_proxy
or by filling in the appropriate information in yum.conf.

For the record ... using the latest Google Chrome on CentOS-7.1503 (our
7.1 release in testing right now), allows Netflix to play just fine on
CentOS-7. What I have installed when I tested it:
