How to manipulate xen image size
Hello All,
We would appreciate your advice on the following issue.
We have created a full virtualized Xen guest that its disk is an image file
of 4GB.
We want to use this image file as a template for creating Xen guests which
their disk will be an LVM device.
The disk image file is of type:
file /var/lib/xen/images/rhel52.img
/var/lib/xen/images/rhel52.img: x86 boot sector;

Jigdo, etc...
Hi folks,
I've just finished rsyncing/downloading/jigdoizing the entire i386/x86_64
CentOS 4.2 distribution.
If anyone is interested go to
http://mirror.tcs.ii.uj.edu.pl/jigdo/
You'll need to edit the .jigdo file by hand to change the server section

CentOS42=file:/opt/mirrors/centos/4.2/
to point to a local mirror (file, http or ftp), ie. to use kernel.org:

Full Virtualized DomU won't boot
Hi, I use Centos 5.4 x86_64
kernel used is 2.6.18-164.11.1.el5xen
I have a physical machine running Debian Etch (32 bit) and Debian
Lenny and I virtualized the first one as follows:
*Created a HVM DomU with Virt-Manager with a virtual disk file of 40000 M
*Boot from LiveCD, and created a swap and a ext3 partitions (Yes, very
simple layout).
*Rsync'd files from root partition of physical

$ sudo file mini_vusb.img
mini_vusb.img: x86 boot sector, Microsoft Windows XP MBR, Serial 0x25d84; partition 1: ID=0xe, active, starthead 1, startsector 32, 390496 sectors
First try was with grep/egrep but I wanted to capture 'startsector 32' as a group (). Nothing came close to working.

Kickstart-based Install, editing comps.xml, hdlist/hdlist2
Hello, all -
I've been throwing the question around on the kickstart-list for the
last few days here, and can't quite get ahold of things. Please, allow
me to explain.
I am in the process of making a custom CentOS/RHEL kickstart install.
It works well right now; however, it's a hackjob, and I am not
comfortable with it as of yet.
For the past few days, I've even gone as far as

Attempting custom CentOS4 network install
Hi
I am installing CentOS4 over ether network using http and kickstart. I boot from
the first CentOS CD and at "boot:" prompt I input
"ks=http://localserver/install/custom.cfg". Except for minor glitches like
"Kernel-Development group not found" warning, the process is smooth and is
almost completely automated.
Now, I want to add additional RPMS to the CentOS/RPMS

syslinux installation problem
Hey, guys.
I have a problem when installing syslinux 4.06, and I'd be grateful if someone could tell me how to solve the problem.
My task - to install the bootloader on the virtual machine image. The image contains the MBR and the only partition with the file system ext4. The file system contains all the files for the guest OS.
To install bootloader into the image of the guest OS, I use the

Re: Bug#637234: linux-image-3.0.0-1-686-pae: I/O errors using ext4 under xen
Hi Konrad,
Does this look at all familiar? There is some more info in the full bug
log at http://bugs.debian.org/637234 . In particular, contrary to the
message below, the user subsequently confirmed that the issue appears to
be Xen specific (doesn''t happen on native or vmware) and that it arose
between 2.6.39-2-686-pae and 3.0.0-1-686-pae.
Could it be related to edf6ef59ec7e

boot loader detection
Hello,
I was looking for a way to detect the installed boot loader of an image
and I found this: https://github.com/arvidjaar/bootinfoscript
This script will inspection a lot of things on a running system and will
output a Report. The most interesting part is that it uses known Master
and Volume Boot Record byte-patterns to determine the installed boot loader:

centos 3.3 and updates for 3.1
Hi Everyone,
Centos 3.3 is available for general use - you can find it at:
http://mirror.caosity.org/centos-3/3.3/
This should be a complete rebuild of all the nice things Red Hat has
included in the srpms of their Enterprise Linux 3 update 3.
This is a rebuild of all the changed packages from update 3 overlaid
onto 3.1. It includes a rebuilt anaconda and new boot kernels for the
installer.

Most efficient way to create a CentOS 3 test VM
I'm about to create a new CentOS 3 VM for testing, since we still have a
bunch of deployed machines running that OS.
(Don't yell at me about using old OSes. These machines won't get
"un-deployed" until they fall over dead of natural causes. Until the
last one dies, we need test and build VMs around to service them.)
I have the CentOS 3.9 *.iso files plus a local cache

what the best ? apt-get? yum or urpmi ?
Hello, I must make a choice concerning the use of a tool used to update
rpms: yum, urpmi or apt-get.
Personally, I use urpmi every day, without real problems (the
dependences, even those of Perl are very well managed),
the "hdlist" can be used in several forms , it contains a lot of
funtions but, it is not integrated into
up2date and does not have a graphic interface that fits Centos3
