Not able to access website
Hi, Trying to figure out why I cannot get access to dell.com Their site is up because I can browse using a different firewall. Trying to find out where the logs are located and what log files it would write to if it were to deny browsing to a website. I can see the [UNREPLIED] when using the shorewall status. Was hoping to know what logfile it is writing it to. Thanks in advance, Elmer

DNS Name problem with mail server on LAN
Hi, I have a big "name problem" with my internal mail server (10.0.0.152). It is "seen" on the internet through DNAT (213.58.230.27). Also there is a MX record pointing to the machine. Everything works fine from the outside. However i can''t set the mail clients on the lan pointing to the mx record, because this one points to 213.58.230.27 and the firewall

linux-ha heartbeat .. failover firewall
I have searched your FAQ''s and read the documentation on your site as well as googling. I am not able to figure this out. If you have any ideas can you please help. I am using the linux-ha failover with redundant firewalls. As part of the function of the linux-ha software consists a service called heartbeat which is a connection from each failover node through a serial cable or ethernet.

Mail server on DMZ
Hello, I have this problem: when my mail server on the DMZ starts a connection to the internet it''s ip (213.58.230.26) is "masqueraded" with the firewall ip (213.58.230.50). I wouldn''t mind but there is a one customer who rejects the connection because it makes reverse dns and finds no dns entry for the firewall ip. How can i correct this? Thanks, MSantos shorewall

Plans for 2.4.0
Hi folks, Has anyone tested the changes to multiple ISPs/load balancing or routestopped in 2.4.0-RC1 yet? We need to talk about what criteria we will use for determining whether 2.4.0 is ready for release. I''ve started configuring a firewall at work with the multiple ISPs support, but its kernel doesn''t have connection marking support, so it''s going to be a couple of

repost (passive FTP server in DMZ and shorewall 1.4.2)
I apologize for the first message. :) --------------------------------------- I have an FTP server running in the DMZ section of my home network. It uses port 23000 for connection and ports 19990 to 19994 for data transfer. I have setup the following rule for outside people to connect to it: DNAT net dmz:192.168.2.2 tcp 23000 I''m at work right now and I can''t use

Startup Failure when using not!
I''m using Shorewall 2.4.0 under Fedora Core 4. I''m using ULOG to log my firewall''s dropped connections, but I want to drop a couple ports silently as they''re taking up too much log space. According to the rules file: "The ACTION may optionally be followed by ":" and a syslog log level (e.g, REJECT:info or DNAT:debug). This causes the packet to

SFTP
(anonymous post) I have a simple 2 interface firewall setup and all is good, almost. I am hosting virtual websites and DNS behind shorewall no problem. However I am trying to use SFTP via a different port number and have no luck even though Putty works well. Is there anything weird to sftp and shorewall? My lab uses a different firewall (firestarter) and it works OK. I am using; DNAT net

DHCP
Good day to all. I don''t like to Post unless I am really stuck. Guess what? Redhat with Shorewall. Been using this for years. I have a new client that we have setup with Redhat and Shorewall. The problem is that his outside address (ETH0 = NET) is dynamic (i.e. DHCP enabled). All the rules work fine when we use a STATIC address on Eth0, so we know the rules, filters, tos etc work fine

Squid
I''m attempting to setup Squid as shown on: http://shorewall.sourceforge.net/Shorewall_Squid_Usage.html#DMZ The firewall is a Bering 1.0 firewall running Shorewall 1.3.11, Red Hat 7.2 on the server in the DMZ. I''m not seeing the requests come in to the server using tcpdump. The server is 192.168.2.1 connecting to eth2 on the firewall, the local traffic I''m trying to

macaddress blacklist problem
I helped set up a firewall at my brother''s church and we are running shorewall 1.4.6b on a redhat 9 box. Works well. [root@fumcbafw shorewall]# uname -r 2.4.20-19.9 [root@fumcbafw shorewall]# iptables --version iptables v1.2.7a The box also serves as a dhcp server for the church offices and there is one box that apparently still has the old firewall config (zone alarm) on it since it

Proxy Arp Ip Conflicts
I must have something configured wrong somewhere. I''ve enabled proxy-arp on my shorewall 2.0.7 firewall. Works fine for what its supposed to do, I can see all the machines through it great. However, whenever its enabled, the network on the DMZ goes screwy. I''ve narrowed it down to this: when proxy arp is enabled for that interface, like such: echo 1 >

DNAT not working after changing BIND to use views
Hello all: I''ve got a confusing issue. I had a working shorewall configuration (based on the two interface model) using DNAT for redirection to my HTTP server. The HTTP server is on my inside network (I know - bad juju, but one thing at a time). I changed my configuration this morning to use views in my BIND (named) configuration. Everyone outside the firewall is able to get in

Shorewall and CUPS printing interference
I''m having a problem with the Shorewall firewall and CUPS printing interfering with each other. My Linux firewall machine is acting as both a CUPS server and client for all of my tests. Shorewall 2.0.13 CUPS 1.1.22-2 Linux kernel 2.6.9 CUPS was working fine to print to my Epson C84 (network connected via a Netgear PS101 print server using lpd://PS101.IP.address/raw ) until I

Shorewall Setup.
Hello Tom and others on the list. Tom - you might recall that the other day (night) I had problems with my axip setup (protocol 93) and we made some changes to the policy, zones and interfaces files. You added ''peers and tunl+'' Following that change nothing seemed to work. In fact you wanted to see the shorewall status file, among other things. Well - tonight, I carefully put
