Estimate Slope from Boltzmann Model (package: DRC)
Dear R Community, I am using the package DRC ( to fit a boltzman model to my data. I can fit the model and extract the lower limit, upper limit, and ED50 (aka V50), but I cannot figure out how to get the slope of the curve at ED50. Is there a simple way to do this? I've searched the mailing list and looked through the package documentation, but could not find anything. I am new to r, and

Newbie Problem: need Windows Printer Driver?
Hi friends I just started using wine on my Linux-machine. Mostly because I want to switch finally from Windows to Linux on my computer at work. There is just one single application I want to "take with me" and that is "GraphPad Prism" (http://www.graphpad.com/prism/Prism.htm). So I installed wine0.9.20 on my Mandriva2007. Then I used wine to install Prism in its most recent

Set riched20.dll specifically for powerpoint 2007
Hi there, I have installed MS Office 2007 in wine 1.2.2 running in LinuxMint KDE 9, together with other softwares (including GraphPad Prism 4). After install, I set riched20.dll as native (windows), as stipulated here: http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=4992 > Post Installation Instructions? > > Once installed, one override is necessary. Robust Non-linear Regression
Hi, I'm trying to use Robust non-linear regression to fit dose response curves. Maybe I didnt look good enough, but I dind't find robust methods for NON linear regression implemented in R. A method that looked good to me but is unfortunately not (yet) implemented in R is described in http://www.graphpad.com/articles/RobustNonlinearRegression_files/frame.htm

Converting a character string into an object variable
R-helpers: Assume that I want to create a series of sequentially named R objects. For example, I might want to call these objects V1, V2, V3 ... V50. To do this, I thought of some sort of looping function like: input.value <- seq(1:50) * 3 for(i in 1:50){ paste("V", i, sep="") <- input.value[i] } Of course this loop will not work since the paste function

nls convergence problem
I'm having problems getting nls to agree that convergence has occurred in a toy problem. nls.out never gets defined when there is an error in nls. Reaching the maximum number of iterations is alway an error, so nls.out never gets defined when the maximum number of iterations is reched. >From ?nls.control: tol: A positive numeric value specifying the tolerance level for the

sprintf error: "only 100 arguments allowed"
I'm trying to apply a function defined in the VW R docs, that attemps to convert a data.table object to Vowpal Wabbit format. In the process i'm getting the error in printf mentioned in the subject. The original function is here: https://github.com/JohnLangford/vowpal_wabbit/blob/master/R/dt2vw.R Below there is a small example that reproduces the error. The function works great with

Data frame "pivoting"
Dear R experts, I am trying to solve this problem, related to the possibility of changing the shape of a data frame using a "pivoting-like" function. I have a dataframe df of observations as follows: ID VALIDITY YEAR PROPERTY PROPERTY VALUE A1 2007 P1 V1 A1 2007 P2 V2 A1 2007 P3 V3 A1 2008 P1 V10 A1 2008 P2 V20 A2 2007 P5 V50 A2 2008 P6 V20 A3 2007

sprintf error: "only 100 arguments allowed"
Wouldn't it make sense to have this in the man page? The 8192-byte limitation for 'fmt' is mentioned but not this one. Thanks, H. long data frame selection error
Hello, I am trying to select the following headers from a data frame but when I try and run the command it executes halfway through and give me an error at V188 and V359. Wilcoxon signed rank test and its requirements

Simple plot of values and error bars: Is there an existing function for this
In an OpenOffice.org forum someone asked if it was possible to plot some raw data and then add a line for the confidence interval. Example at? http://www.graphpad.com/help/Prism5/scatter%20-%20grouped.png While it may be possible to do this in OOo's spreadsheet program it looks nasty (both to do and the results ) I can do this in R but I'm not good enough that I can produce a fairly

nls singular gradient ..as always..
Hi all. Sorry for posting again such a topic but I went through previous posts but couldn't find a solution. I use the following code to fit an exponential model to my data. I have 4 different datasets. For 3 datasets nls seems to work fine and I have no error messages. But for 1 dataset I am getting the "world known" singular gradient error. xfit.dNEE <-

Statistical question re assessing fit of distribution functions.
I am in a situation where I have to fit a distrution, such as cauchy or normal, to an empirical dataset. Well and good, that is easy. But I wanted to assess just how good the fit is, using ks.test. I am concerned about the following note in the docs (about the example provided): "Note that the distribution theory is not valid here as we have estimated the parameters of the normal

Dear List I have a fixed width file with variables of varying width. The help is pretty transparent for this feature, but I can't seem to figure out how I can make effective use of the package with my data. In my dataset, the first 80 columns are of width 1 followed by other variables with width larger than 1. I think the correct way to do this, by brute force, would be >

linear regression for grouped data
Hi, I have been examining large data and need to do simple linear regression with the data which is grouped based on the values of a particular attribute. For instance, consider three columns : ID, x, y, and I need to regress x on y for each distinct value of ID. Specifically, for the set of data corresponding to each of the 4 values of ID (76,111,121,168) in the below data, I should invoke
