RE: Shorewall and an inline IDS (snort-inline orhogwash)
I made an atempt to run snort_inline and shorewall on the same system but I could not get snort to see the packets. Maybe someone with a little more iptables knowledge could tell me what I''m doing wrong or if its possible to have the systems setup so that it places packets that the firewall would allow into QUEUE. After setting up and starting shorewall I then issue the following

Running Shorewall with WonderShaper on a dual-ISP setup.
I''m currently building a firewall for a network with 2 ISP links. Unfortunately, one of the ISP''s doesn''t support BGP yet, otherwise I would be doing load balancing at the router, instead of the firewall. I''ve been trying to find information on how to get WonderShaper working, but everything I''ve found talks about setting it up for a firewall with one

Hi All, I am adding ip_queue module for snort inline IDS. I am using snort2.4.0 And iptables-1.3.4. Userspace Queuing(queue target) is enabled. It is built-in and not built as a module. The output of /proc/net/ip_queue is shown below: cat /proc/net/ip_queue> Peer PID : 0 Copy mode : 0 Copy range : 0 Queue length : 0 Queue max. length : 1024 IPTABLES 1.3.4 is

Shorewall and an inline IDS (snort-inline or hogwash)
Is anyone using an inline IDS like hogwash or snort-inline to drop packets in a system running shoreline? I _think_ I see how to configure it, but I''d be really interested in finding a howto or something... Thanks! Mike- -- Mornings: Evolution in action. shorewall and snort inline
hello list, i''ve set up shorewall and snort inline on a linux box. it works, but snort only sees traffic from new connections. and this is because shorewall automatically generates rules to accept established and related connections. how can i force shorewall to queue everything, so that snort can scan the hole traffic like in IDS mode. The setup i have now is really simple, just 2 zones

Snort and Shorewall
Hello I am looking for a way to have snort to dynamically update my shorewall config. I have seen software out there but I would like to see if anyone had tried this first. Aslo I would like to know if there is a way clear the Netfilter tables when I do a shorewall restart. The reason being is that when I make a change to my firewall setting I want all connections to have to re-establish

Problem with IPComp on VPN
I''ve created an IPSec VPN using shorewall and racoon-tool under Debian 3.1. I''m not using the patched iptables/kernel for policy match, therefore I''m using the tunnels/hosts config method rather than the ipsec config file method. I''m running the latest 2.6.13 kernel. I have no problem getting my VPN connection up and running with one exception. Without

I would also like to do traffic shaping and install Snort as well in the same box. Can Shorewall do all this? Is there any docs on that? Do i need to configure Shorewall as a bridging firewall in order to do

Red Code, Nimbda et. al
Hello, we are interested to learn how Shorewall can be configured to look into a packet''s payload, say to look for footprints of Red Code or Nimbda (for example). From the site web page features section we understand Shorewall only looks into the packet''s header. Your enlightening answer will be appreciated. Regards Jose.
