nosql (it was mogilefs)
Yes, I?ve read these doc. I was just considering if someone had any experience with Mogile in email environment. Well, actually I?m trying to figure out if one of those nosql systems can store and scale email systems (ie, mailboxes - instead of maildir). I know mysql is always quoted as an option and discussed sometimes in the list. I think it?s an unnecessary overhead and bottleneck. As

Rails'' send_file, Mongrel, and *gasp* memory
I''ve had a right fun few days at work trying to figure out why our Rails app (which isn''t under very heavy load) kept eating memory and bringing our server to our knees. Eventually I traced it to send_file (which was in a way a relief as it wasn''t down to my coding ;) -- every time a user started downloading, the memory consumed by the app would jump, and

Rails Cluster Design
Hello everyone! A collegue and I are beginning development on a site that will eventually need to very scalable (assuming our business model is a good idea). My problem is that I''m not a sysadmin guru, and I''m not terribly comfortable with the design of the hosting platform. We''re going to start with two servers initially (for cost reasons), and I''m considering

Setup with Apache 2.2 proxy balancer : timeout during uploads
Hi all, I encounter timeout errors during file uploads in my Rails application. I think the problem may be in the Mongrel configuration. Here is my setup: * Load balancer (Cisco CSM, my provider''s Catalyst 6509) * Apache 2.2.3 with mod_proxy_balancer * Mongrel 0.3.13.3 * Rails 1.1.6 * Ruby 1.8.4 * MySQL 5.0.22 * file_column I host an application in which users may upload medium files

Hosting images : DB or File System
Hi, I''m developing an application where I''ll have to store a lot of images coming from the users. And I''m still not sure if I should store them in MySQl as blob or just store them on filesystem. If I store them on filesystem, how to scale when I''ll have to have multiple servers ? Thanks, Pratik -- rm -rf / 2>/dev/null - http://null.in

mongrel_send_file gem plugin
served piping hot fresh from my svn repo: http://svn.techno-weenie.net/projects/mongrel/mongrel_send_file/README == mongrel_send_file GemPlugin This is a simple plugin to handle the sending of secure files from a rails app. Here''s the typical process: - Rails app authorizes user to download file - Rails app sets file info in the session, redirects to custom URL like

Storing images in Ruby
Hi, I''d like to allow users to upload images and store those images in a Postgres database. I''ve looked through the example in "aguile development with rails" which suggests using the MySQL blob field. When I wrote a similar app in Java, we Base64 encoded the file and then stored it as a text field. Is this easy to do in RoR too? Any advice you can give me would

LVM+Xen+FreeNAS possible?
Hi All, We''ve limitation of 500 GB per server as per ServerLoft. we are needing to store word/pdf files. How to get the MAC address of a domU?
I''m creating a new domU using ''virsh create <xmlfile>'' without specifying the MAC address within the XML file, under the assumption that the dom0 or hypervisor generates the MAC address for me. Next I''d like to get the MAC address that was assigned to this new domU, and I don''t see a way to get that information from the command line via virsh

How do I see that a xVM is running as paravirtualized
I have followed a combination of instructions from this post and have been able to get an Ubuntu paravirtualized instance running under snv_96. Is there a way to "list" the fact that it is paravirtualized? For example, xm list, virsh list, etc. thanks -- This message posted from opensolaris.org

[SEC] Mongrel Temporary Fix For cgi.rb 99% CPU DoS Attack
This is important so please read this message very carefully. There is a DoS for Ruby''s cgi.rb that is easily exploitable. The attack involves sending a malformed multipart MIME body in an HTTP request. The full explanation of the attack as well as how to fix it RIGHT NOW is given below. Most of the work was done by Jeremy Kemper and Jamis Buck. They did all the work of building the

Mongrel spinning on read_multipart
On Zed''s suggestion, I caught two new spinning mongrels and sent a SIGUSR2. The code appears to be stuck in read_multipart for both processes: # kill -USR2 6109 ** USR2 signal received. sendfile and mongrel
forgive me if this has been resolved already... I have an app that is using sendfile to return large files to customers. We can''t use regular Apache to handle this static content since the files are what the customers are paying for - so it wouldn''t be cool for anyone else to get access to them. The issue is that the mongrel mem footprint gets bloated when the files are

Spinning mongrels and SIGUSR1
First off: Our clusters are LVS balanced Apache 2.2.3 + mod_proxy_balancer + gem mongrel 0.3.13.3 / mongrel_cluster 0.2 + memcached / gem memcache_client + gem rails 1.1.6 on debian boxen, and a pgcluster backend. On 2 of our deployed clusters, we are getting the "spinning mongrel" problem. As the clusters are very low volume right now, it takes days to collect a spinner, making it
