Installing GLIBC for CentOS 4.6
I'd like to modify pthread library ( e.g. manipulating some functions )
in glibc, so I want to compile and install modified glibc.
However, I failed to compile glibc and need some help. How can I fix the
problem?
Here is the process that I've tried.
1. download glibc-2.3.4.tar.tar from http://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/glibc/
2. unzip glibc-2.3.4.tar.tar
3. make build-folder

Yum Issues with Dev groups
Just my luck,
None of my CentOS systems or my Fedora systems can #yum groupinstall "Development Tools" "Development Libraries"?
Both are having dep issues? Is that a coincidence, or what's going on?
The CentOS boxes all complain:

why glibc-profile package get obsolete?
Hi,
Any one know why the glibc-profile is obsoleted on
centos 5 (glibc 2.5)? I've checked the glibc.spec file
and find that the --disable-profile option is enabled
in the configuration command.
So how the original profiling functions are
implemented on glibc 2.5? Is there a new way to do the
same/similar thing?
Thanks a lot.

Centos 5.1 distro: How to upgrade 5.0 to 5.1 with yum??
Hi,
Redhat announced RHEL 5.1 on Nov 07, so hopefully
CentOS 5.1 will be ready shortly. But I get kind of
nervous of the arrival of 5.1.
My problem is: I have hundreds Centos 5.0 boxes just
finished installation and I will continue to install
and upgrade hundreds more in next few months. With the
arrival of Centos 5.1, I don't like to reinstall them
anymore but continuous upgrade instead

yum update - Glibc Problem
Hi,
I've just done a fresh install of Centos 4.0 on a Via C3 Based system
using the Centos DVD I downloaded a while ago.
Then install goes though fine as does running 'yum check-update'.
However when running the actual 'yum update', it downloads all the
headers but afterwards displays the following errors:-

Is reboot needed after updating kernel, glibc, database?
Hello,
I always wanted to ask: do you need to reboot after
updating packages like kernel, glibc, postgresql?
Or do you need to restart the postgresql service
after updating it with yum?
Regards
Alex

cannot install glibc.i686 on x86_64

glibc-common.x86_64 is installed, but it's apparently looking for i686.
There's indeed no glibc-common for i686.
There's also glibc.i386 and glibc-common.i386 available, but I think I
don't need them.
I have other x86_64

Installation using iconv from glibc
The R Installation and Administration manual section A.1 states that glibc should provide a suitable iconv function, but I can't get R's configure script to accept/validate iconv on a Linux platform I need to support using glibc 2.20.
Is glibc is actually compatible (and/or is gnu libiconv essentially the only path)?
If glibc should work, what should I check to troubleshoot my

FC5: "ext_attr" and "large_file" features for ext3 file systems ???
Hi,
Fedora Core ext3 file systems newbie questions:
Just interested in the Linux ext3 features but got
confused with "large_file" and "ext_attr".
First, what's the "large_file" feature REALLY means?
For file systems created with same commands and
options some file systems have it on while some not.
It is said that the feature is automatic -- If there

[PATCH] define _DEFAULT_SOURCE for glibc-2.20
_BSD_SOURCE was deprecated in favour of _DEFAULT_SOURCE since glibc
2.20[1]. To avoid build warning on glibc2.20, _DEFAULT_SOURCE should
also be defined.

Accidentally removed glibc & glibc-devel :: Help
Hi,
I attempted to ugprade glibc & glibc-devel and ended up removing them
entirely by accident. *idiot*
What are the steps needed to get glibc back onto my system.
Absolutely nothing is working at the moment, rpm, yum, etc. I presume
I'm going to have to boot from a rescue CD of some kind.
If someone could outline how to do this, or point me to some docs I
would be most grateful.

Segfaults, winebuild, and glibc 2.2.3
I just upgraded my Linux box to glibc 2.2.3. Before the upgrade (glibc
2.1.92), wine compiled and ran beautifully. After, however, winebuild
segfaults for no apparent reason. Upon running ldd, I found that it is
properly loading all libraries. I do have one question, however. Does
the package glibc-profile have any effect on this? If it does, problem
(probably) solved. Otherwise, I'm
