VMWare Sandbox
I need to experiment with ldap for a site I manage, and wondered if
vmware would be a good way to go for some testing.
My current server is RHEL3, which is getting dated, and I think that I
should refresh this server entirely in the move to ldap.
We need to have an ldap server for publishing email addresses for a
VPN for a nursing home that the upstream can harvest and we can browse

vmware server 1.0.4 and centos 4.5 i386 install
Hi all,
I tried to install centos 4.5 i386 as a guest on an AMD x2 machine today.
It told me it did not find any install media. I had created an 8G disk
for it.
Is there a SCSI driver I need to "Add" when prompted? I have never used SCSI
and dont know which SCSI controller vmware is emulating.
What driver do I need to load?
I was then surprised some time later when my machine locked

Journal Aborts in VMware ESX (Filesystem Corruption)
I have several CentOS5 hosts in a VMware ESX 3.5.0 226117 environment
using iSCSI storage. Recently we've begun to experience journal aborts
resulting in remounted-read-only filesystems as well as other filesystem
issues - I can unmount a filesystem and force a check with "fsck -f" and
occasionally find errors.
I've found -

vmware tools in CentOS5 guest?
Does anyone have vmware-tools from the recent server 1.03 release
running in a CentOS5 guest VM? vmware-config-tools.pl goes through the
motions except for building the vmhgfs module (which it says is only
needed for mapping the host file system) but then X won't start up with
the new configuration.

Vmware Server on Centos 5.1
Hi all,
I am running some Centos 5.0 x86_64 servers as host os for vmware server
1.0.3 on both Opteron and Xeon systems. They are all running fine and
stable. But now I am in doubt to upgrade to 5.1.
Has any one done that yet, upgraded his vmware hosts with Centos/RHEL
5.0 to 5.1 ?

VMware tools 1.0.10 on Centos 6?
I have an instance of VMware server 1.0.10 hosted on CentOS 5, and it
runs fine, with guests of CentOS 4, CentOS5 or Win2000.
I have just created a new VM and installed CentOS6 on it, which also runs
fine, except that I can't build the VMware tools on it. I get compilation
errors when compiling the kernel modules, due to changes in the definition
of struct net_device among other things.

Is it possible to make rsync VMware split .vmdk's aware?
Hi,
I am using rsync for my customers to have disaster recovery off-site
with files from a VMware Server (under Linux). All works very well, but
when I defragment the VM's (once a week) or Exchange defragments it's
datastore the disk layout changes offcourse and sometimes a lot.
What do I do:
- I am making a local copy with vmware-vdiskmanager to an USB

Installing VMWare Server 1.0.3 on CentOS 5
I was in the process of installing VMWare Server 1.0.3 via the tarball I downloaded from their site. When it asked for the C header files for my installed kernel (2.6.18-6), hey could not be found. When I initially installed CentOS, I made sure everything was included, so I am at a loss why they can not be found. I haven't tried installing it via the RPM, but I don't think it will make

VMWare disaster recovery?
I found this in the large and growing list of downloadable vmware
appliances: http://www.vmware.com/vmtn/appliances/directory/316.
I haven't run it yet, but it claims to provide a way to mirror
running windows boxes over iscsi to vmware disk images, then allows
you to boot that image under vmware as a replacement for the server
with little downtime.
Has anyone attempted something like this

patched kernel addressing timekeeping issues under vmware
People at vmware have provided patches for RHEL 5 that aim to fix
timekeeping issues in vmware guests.

Description of problem (excerpt) :
"In a virtual environment, timekeeping for RHEL 64 bit kernels can be
problematic, since time is kept by counting timer interrupts for this kernel.
The problem arises when the VM is descheduled for some

Thanks, Tru. What is the process for Sean's work to make it into the
standard CentOS5 and 5.1 repositories? How will the tools package get
updated as you patch the kernel? Perhaps we should cc Sean on the
email? His home page on the Duke server has no contact information.
Thanks,

yet another Asterisk and VMware question
I looked through this forum and other lists trying to get a definitive
answer to the VMware question...
I have a Windows 2003 Server box that is my development machine. It is fully
loaded with many s/w packages, dev tools, etc. It's not very feasible to
convert this box to Linux without losing an awful lot of stuff.
On it, I'm running VMware GSX 3.1.0. Under VMware, I have a

zfs + iscsi target + vmware esx server
I''m posting here as this seems to be a zfs issue. We also have an open ticket with Sun support and I''ve heard another large sun customer also is reporting this as an issue.
Basic Problem: Create a zfs file system and set shareiscsi to on. On a vmware esx server discover that iscsi target. It shows up as 249 luns. When attempting to then add the storage esx server eventually
