"multi-boot" drive partitioning
I want to set up a multiple "mode" computer with four separate Centos installations on it. The objective here is to have a "spare computer" that I can boot up into any of four "modes" depending on what I'm swapping it in for a the moment. For example, I want to be able to boot it up as a webserver, or as a fileserver, or as a LTSP-enabled application server.

rsync backup to fileserver - mystery
I have an Intel SS4000E fileserver that I've been using for several years to backup my home directory to. I have a daily cron job that runs the following command: rsync -av --delete /home/frankcox/ /mnt/fileserver/backup I have a directory named misc/sheet-music/classical. About a week ago I created a new subdirectory there, /home/frankcox/misc/sheet-music-classical/Russian\ and\ Eastern\

Getting started with NFS
Hi, I've never been using NFS before, but I'm going to need it. I gathered some documentation (Deployment Guide, RHEL 5 Unleashed, general NFS docs) and I have a few machines to experiment with. After about two hours of reading and experimenting, I must admit the documentation is confusing, to say the least. Although some step-by-step tutorials are provided, none of them work. For

blue screen instead of login screen
I installed Centos 6.2/i386 on a machine last night with a 1920x1080 monitor. The installer ran in graphical mode and looked fine. After the install was finished I rebooted and ran through the "firstboot" stuff (set up user, etc) with no problem and, again, it looked good. After that, when I should have seen the gdm login screen, all I got was the blue background but not the box with

rsync backup to fileserver - mystery
that diff has /misc/misc/ in the second compare argument. Not sure if thats the exact command you have been entering or if you retyped it. If that is a good path or is rsync creating new ?misc? folders inside your original misc folder? -- Jeremy Thompson Sports Warehouse Inc. jeremy at warehousesports.com > On May 1, 2015, at 10:10 AM, Frank Cox <theatre at melvilletheatre.com>

Rsync Setup
I have seen many ways to setup a rsync backup but I have never got one to work on a centos machine. I have used 4.5 and 5.0 If anyone could point me in the right direction, much thanks. Samsung M800
I have a Samsung M800 phone that I had (wrongly) assumed would show up as a USB drive on Linux so I can transfer files to it and so on. Instead, it appears to present itself as a modem. Is there any way to make it appear as a usb drive? simple website hit counter
Googling for this finds me a ton of stuff that doesn't actually do what I'm looking for. I want a simple hit counter cgi script of some kind that will increment a counter on every page load but I want to access the counter from a different page. In other words, I don't want to have a visible hit counter on the webpage itself. I want to have a different webpage that will show me the

ip range cidr calculator
I found a command-line program that did this once before, used it for a while and then forgot about it until right now and I'll be damned if I can find it again. A command line IP calculator that takes an address range and give it back in cidr format. I found an online one that does this here: http://www.ipaddresslocation.org/subnet-mask-calculator.php But I would prefer to have the

system-config-network crash
I have been trying to get a EVDO modem to work with Centos 5 and earlier this evening I used system-config-network to add it to the system. Now when I try to run system-config-network again it crashes with the following error. Can anyone tell me how I can fix this? Intel i7-940, DX58S0 motherboard, Radeon X1950 Pro video card
This computer is my main desktop machine --- an Intel i7-940 CPU and DX58S0 motherboard with a Radeon X1950 Pro video card. It's currently running Fedora 11 and working just fine. However, I have been slowly moving all of my "computer stuff" off of Fedora and onto Centos, and this (and my Acer Aspire One laptop) are the only Fedora installations that I now have left. Does anyone

rpmfusion status?
Unless I've missed something (which is possible) there hasn't been any "public progress announcements" regarding rpmfusion in the past several weeks. Is there anything new to report? My ulterior motive is that I would love to have the convenience of a one-stop rpm shop for Centos/RHEL and Fedora, and it's my understanding that's what rpmfusion is intended to be... --
