rails hyperthreading on Quad core
Hi, my video sharing website (politube.org) that I developed with rails, runs on lighttpd/fcgi (I know it is obsolete by now) and is severely under load and regularly blocks because the lighttpd process chews up 50% of RAM (1GB). So now I want to move the system to a new server with 8GB, 64bit , Quad core processor (intel i7 920) but I am not sure if hyperthreading will really do anything better.

''lowest common denominator'' cpuid feature set
I want to be able to test live migration... I have an intel box and an amd box, so live migration between them won''t ''just work''. From what I''ve read though, I should be able to use cpuid to turn off all the cpu features which might be different between them. Is this do-able? I''m willing to accept any resulting loss of performance etc. James

Hyperthreading ON causes OOPS on boot
I just tried to install CentOS (x86_64 4.4 and i386 4.3, not both at once, when I found the 64bit version didn't boot, I tried the 32bit version, same result) on a dual Naconda Xeon system. I get an OOPS just after the IDE info is printed on the screen during boot (this is booting off the CD during the install phase). After mucking about with the bios settings (and many reboots later), I

Please advise: Asterisk on Dell PowerEdge 1750 w/ hyperthreading
I've to setup Asterisk on a Dell PowerEdge 1750 server. Its dual Xeon 3GHz with Hyperthreading. People on this list who have experience with this server please advise me how is the performance of Asterisk on this server, what flavour of linux is good on it etc. Is Hyperthreading going to be a problem or not. I once read somewhere that hyperthreading caused some voice quality problems in

hyperthreading and zaptel
My Dell 2800 Dual 64bit Proc. machine came in with hyperthreading enabled. (they call it virtual processor??) I have been intending for a month to disable it. Tonight, I rebooted, turned it off, and let the system come up. zaptel loaded and asterisk loaded, but both of my t1s were red. (it is a TE411P) /proc/interrupts looked OK, zttest gave OK numbers. I doublechecked all of the files in case

Hyperthreading?
Are they any issues still with hyperthreading processors, I've read and been told by a few people to make sure its disabled in bios if I want to use * on a hyperthreading machine. Kind Regards, Chris Bond

domU machines hang when Hyperthreading enabled in BIOS
Hi, I can''t get rid of an annoying domU machines hanging issue with Hyperthreading enabled in my BIOS. R: Hyperthreading?
That's the problem we had with Asterisk and HT on a 2.4 Kernel: whenever Asterisk was staying in the RTP stream, and HT was enabled (on a Dell Dual Xeon system), we had choppy audio. After disabling HT, everything was fine again. Nothing measurable, indeed, but you could definitely hear it. So there *must* be something. -Manuel -----Messaggio originale----- Da: Peter Corlett

P4 processor with Hyperthreading and Asterisk
Hello, I read an interesting article on 2cpu.com that talks about the performance differences between a P4 processor with Hyperthreading(HT) enabled and disabled. http://www.2cpu.com/articles/ht_explored/index.html The bottom line of the article is that processor intensive applications greatly benefit from HT being enabled, but memory intensive applications can actually see a slight decrease in

VCPU cores & sockets
Before I get to entrenched in the ACPI code - I thought I''d ping the community to make sure nobody else has investigated this already - Can we present cores vs sockets for guest VCPUs? Right now, the number of total processors can be specified, but can we specify cores per socket? I see this potentially being an hvmloader function, as part of its acpi build code. Could this be

Hyperthreading
Hi, All: Does the guest OS need to detect hyperthreading? One would think that the hypervisor decides what to schedule on what CPU, and the job of the guest is not to be too smart for its own good. So, my first reaction was to comment detect_ht() altogether. Fedora Core 5 has the code in detect_ht(), though I have no idea what the results of this are on HT CPUs, if they match the reality.

Xen 3.0 and Hyperthreading an issue?
Just gave 3.0 a spin. Had been running 2.0.7 for the past 3 months or so without problems (aside from intermittent failure during live migration). Anyway, 3.0 seems to have an issue with my machine. It starts up the 4 domains that I''ve got defined (was running 6 user domains with 2.0.7, but two of those were running 2.4 kernels which I can''t seem to build with Xen 3.0 yet, and

2.4 Kernel and Hyperthreading (was Re: P4 processor
>but if I disable hyperthreading (noht on the kernel line in lilo/grub) Could the same result could be obtained if hyperthreading is disabled from the BIOS ? Supermicro Motherboards (most Phoneix based) have this option Also, would we see same pops and clicks in a dual CPU box (Zeon) then ? [PATCH] Nested VMX: Allow to set CR4.OSXSAVE if guest has xsave feature
From: Yang Zhang <yang.z.zhang@Intel.com> We exposed the xsave feature to guest, but we didn''t allow guest to set CR4.OSXSAVE when guest running in nested mode. This will cause win 7 guest fail to use XP mode. In this patch, we allow guest to set CR4.OSXSAVE in nested mode when it has the xsave feature. Signed-off-by: Yang Zhang <yang.z.zhang@Intel.com> ---

3.0.2 + Hyperthreading ?
Hi, I have two boxes with 2 * Xeon 3.0 Ghz I''ve enabled Hyperthreading in the BIOS. - One box is with Xen 3.0.1 I''ve enabled SMP + SMT in my kernel Xen0 config, and SMP + SMT works perfectly. I can see 4 cpus in my VCPU list for Domain0, and I see also 4 CPUs in the /proc/cpuinfo file. - One box is with Xen 3.0.2 I''ve enabled SMP in my kernel Xen0 config, and SMT has
