change hvm defaults for timer_mode and hpet?
Due to recent changes in timer handling (specifically building hpet emulation on top of Xen system time and ensuring it is monotonic), I wonder if it now makes sense to: 1) change hvm default for hpet to 1 (was 0) 2) change hvm timer_mode default from 0 to 2 I encouraged adding the hvm hpet parameter and defaulting it to 0 because the virtual hpet was not reliable and many guests/versions

VGA passthrough - guest shows blank screen on startup
Greetings, I''m attempting to do gfx_passthru with the primary graphics adapter (03:00.0), passing it to a guest. I can unbind it from the host but when I fire up the guest OS my monitor loses signal from the graphics card and that''s that. The GFX card is dual DVI, I''ve tried both slots. Host is Linux 2.6.32.14-1.2.105.xendom0.fc12.x86_64, Guest is Windows 7. PC is an

Problem correlating TSC read from domU with Xentrace's TSC
Hi, I am trying to correlating performance issue in guest VM with the scheduling trace from Xentrace. User-mode application in guest VM periodically dump APIC ID and RDTSC into trace. I also start Xentrace in Dom0 during the same period. However, I notice that range of TSC values report both trace is completely disjointed. TSC values from Xentrace is always greater than what guest VM see, even

Guest time and TSCs since changeset 17716
Changeset 17716 provides monotonically increasing guest time for HVM domains, by using the per-domain pl_time structure. hvm_get_guest_time and hvm_set_guest_time were changed to use this. Previously, the guest time was stored directly in the TSC offset fields of the vmx/smv control structures. Since pt_freeze_time and pt_thaw_time use hvm_get/set_guest_time, they now no longer freeze TSC

Do systems have to be IDENTICAL for live migration?
I have several systems running 64bit SLES11SP1. I''m trying to Live Migrate between a couple of them and it''s not working, although the same VM will run on each one starting it manually. The system are not identical. Would one expect migration to work between these two systems? See below. Thanks, James The first system is a ProLiant DL360 G6: Proc 1:2533 MHz Execution

xen-4.1: PV domain hanging at startup, jiffies stopped
Hey, I''m experiencing strange problem: non-deterministic PV domain hang, only on some machines (with fast SSD drive). I''ve tried xen-4.1.0 and xen-4.1.1 with many kernels different kernels: VM: - 2.6.38.3 xenlinux based on SUSE package - vanilla 3.0.3 - vanilla 3.1 rc2 dom0: - 2.6.38.3 xenlinux based on SUSE package - vanilla 3.1 rc2 Result always the same: sometimes VM

Time Clock Stops in FreeBSD 9.0 guest running under ESXi 5.0
I've now seen this on two different VMs on two different ESXi servers (Xeon based hosts but different hardware otherwise and at different facilities): Everything runs fine for weeks then (seemingly) suddenly/randomly the clock STOPS. In the first case I saw a jump backwards of about 15 minutes (and then a 'freeze' of the clock). The second time just 'time standing

[PATCH 00 of 17] Documentation updates
The following series flushes my documentation queue and replaces previous postings of those patches. The main difference is that the xl cfg file is now formatted using POD instead of markdown and presented as a manpage. I have setup a cron job to build docs/html and publish it at http://xenbits.xen.org/docs/unstable/ (it''s a bit bare right now). The motivation for some of these patches

time keeps on slipping... slipping...
I recently put together a new machine w/ a SuperMicro H8SCM and an AMD Opteron 4228 HE... I've having an issue where the clock on the machine skips around... The wierd part is that it's very sudden when it happens... ntp sometimes brings it back, but it can't when the clock gets too far ahread (1000 seconds), ntp dies... In order to catch it happening, I ran a sleep 60 loop
