XCP Memory static/dynamic and overcommit
Hi all,
So I have been playing around with XCP and the static/dynamic memory
parameters. I have a few behavioral questions I would like to pin
down:
-Is the static-max quantity of free memory on the host always required
before the guest vm can be started? I assume so since you don''t know
a-priori if the guest you are booting supports Xen or not. But if
this is true, what is the use of

Memory Ballooning / Overcommitting
I have a xen server setup that I want to install a lot of vms on if
possible. The vms will have no utilization for the most part; and brief
utilization when active. The server has 2GB of RAM.
We were running into a problem were the dom0 would not let us add anymore
vms because we were out of physical memory.
I have started to read about memory ballooning and hoping someone could
point me

Xen 4.0 memory overcommitment
Hello,
I am running a functional Xen 4.0 platform. The objective is the project I
am currently running is to replace 4 VMWare ESX by 4 Xen 4.0 hypervisors. I
have been able to reproduce all the core VMWare features in Xen (but better
of course =D) except memory overcommitment.
I know this feature has been included since Xen 3.3 but I have found almost
no information about it.
When I try to

User can only login as admin, group policy fails the logon otherwise
I have a Samba 3.5 server that services seven Windows 7 computers. When
the setup was originally installed, all workstations were independent
systems and so all users had local administrative privilege. I have
removed admin rights from all users but one. This user has a problem.
We'll call the user 'dmc' though that isn't his real username.
In any event, dmc is a member of the

[XCP] new version available
[previously posted to xen-devel@ and xen-api@ but this might be of interest to xen-users@ too]
Hi,
I''ve refreshed the Xen Cloud Platform (XCP) .isos on xen.org with a new
development snapshot (labelled version 0.1.1). XCP is a collaborative
effort to build a complete cloud infrastructure platform, complete with
a powerful management stack, standards-based APIs, support for

migrate from physical disk problems in xen
I''ve been trying to migrate a win nt 4 machine to a xen domu for the past few months with no success. However, on my current attempt, the original hardware no longer boots, so I''m trying to resolve the issues with xen properly, or else take a long holiday...
Anyway, the physical machine had a 9G drive (OS drive), a 147 G drive (not in use) and a 300G drive (all SCSI Ultra320 on

PoD, 4.2, and current/maximum reservation
A user has pointed out a problem with GPLPV under Xen 4.2 when using PoD. I''m using the difference between XENMEM_maximum_reservation and XENMEM_current_reservation to tell me how much I should balloon down to account for PoD, but when the user has ballooned down to 1G (from 4Gb or 8GB), GPLPV logs the following:
13005008825593: XenPCI XENMEM_maximum_reservation = 262400

[ITR] templates://xen-api/{xcp-networkd.templates}
Dear Debian maintainer,
The Debian internationalisation team and the Debian English
localisation team will soon begin the review of the debconf
templates used in xen-api.
This review takes place for all packages that use debconf to interact with
users and its aims are:
- to improve the use of English in all debconf templates;
- to make the wording of debconf templates more consistent;
- to

data manipulation
Dear Wiza[R]ds,
I have a data.frame header that looks like this:
v2FfaPre15 v2FfaPre10 v2FfaPre5 v2Ffa2 v2Ffa3 v2Ffa4
I need it to look like this,
15 10 5 2 3 4
i.e., with v2FfaPre and v2Ffa stripped off
Any suggestions,
Thanks in advance!

Swap space for kvm virtual host
I have a kvm virtual host running on what will become CentOS 6 with 12GB
of memory and a Quad Xeon X5560 2.8Ghz . The store for virtual
machines will be a software raid 6 array of 6 disks with an LVM layered
on top. I'm not initially planning any major overcommitment of
resources, though there could be a need for some overcommitment with a
light workload on the guests.

New to the community - a few questions
Hello everyone,
I´m new to the list and I´m doing some research on all virtualization
products and solutions avaiable, and I have two questions about Xen:
- Does it use have memory overcommitment techniques (ballooning, TMPS,
swapping)?
- Does it do software thin provisioning?
- I read it has a very strong point when using paravirtualization with
Linux systems. Does it have any other kind of

Users of ballooning, please come forth!
Hi all!
We're debating the design of the balloon for the OASIS spec.
Noone likes the current one, but there are fundamental usage pattern
questions which we're fumbling with.
So if you know anyone who is using it in production? If, so, how? In
particular, would you be happy with guests simply giving the host back
whatever memory they can spare (as Xen's self-balloon does)?
