Convert Trixbox HVM to PVM
Hi list,
I recently installed the Trixbox distribution as an HVM and have now
converted it to a PVM. Found very few resources on Internet where
people had done this conversion so I had very little to compare with.
Wanted to ask for comments about the kernel used in the PVM after the
conversion.
Installing Trixbox and later installing the xenified kernel, gives a
kernel of 2.6.18-92.....

General Linux VM question regarding Xen support
Hello, all.
I''d like to get some feedback on why Linux support for Xen environments is
(seemingly) poor, compared to other virtualisation software. I do a lot of
testing of different types of VMs; firewalls, SMB servers, etc. and find
myself increasingly frustrated that, though most of these systems I test run
Linux almost exclusively, the vast majority have no Xen support.

Re: RHEL5 as PVM on RHEL5 xen
Thanks you all guys. I am able to create the RHEL5 PVM on RHEL5 host
successfully. Only thing that i need to add is /mnt/etc/fstab in inintrd
command and preload to both the fronthend drivers.
As blow.
# mount /home/disk /mnt
# mkinirtd /boot//boot/initrd-2.6.18-8.el5xenU.img 2.6.18-8.el5xen --fstab
/mnt/
etc/fstab --with xenblk --with xennet --preload xenblk --preload xennet
Thanks a lot,

PVM error message
Hello R enthusiasts,
I am working with a Fedora Core 6 OS and R 2.5. I have just finished
loading PVM on my test cluster and this is working properly. Also, rpvm
has been loaded in R. However, when I try to load my test program, I
receive this error:
Loading required package: rpvm
Error in dyn.load(x, as.logical(local), as.logical(now)) ;

Requirements for a PVM enabled distro
(My apologies if this is the wrong list or if this question has been asked
before. I’ve done quite a bit of searching and can’t find an answer)
I am working on a heavily modified version of CentOS with a user-land that
mostly matches 5.4 and a kernel based on 6.2. I''ve found tutorials on how
to create a CentOS PVM (such as
http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Xen/InstallingCentOSDomU) but I

HVM and network interfaces passthrought (without hardware pci passthrought)
I would like to know if there is a way to "passthrought" the network
interfaces that are phisically connected to dom0, eg, an additional pci card
connected to the mb.
I only understand a little about bridging, routing etc.
Thank you a lot.

swapless pvm
What is the best practice in creating PVm domU''s - with or without swap?
>From the admin point of view, especially in HA environment it is temptating not to have
a seperate swap partition.
Could it be performance issue if swapping to swap-file insted of
swap-partition?
What about pure swapless- no swapfile, no swap-partition?
Any expirence out there?

FNIC nested PVM
I''m trying to do nested XEN to give some of my colleagues a play area to
work in, and it seems to work - but not quite.
I can build the nested environment (using OVM, and I have to step back to
OVM3.2.2 to allow me to do PCI passthrough), but as soon as I start up a VM
with a phys device passed through, the first layer loses all connectivity to
the SAN.

Looking for suggestions on how to debug pvm/snow proc's
Hi All -
I'm running a faily long script that uses rpvm & snowFT to spawn off
multiple processes with the 'clusterApplyFT' function.
Specifically, what happens is that the head node generates a number of seed
clusters that are then spawned off to the pvm cluster (in this case, nodes
on a 4 dual-core machine) using clusterApplyFT to apply a function to each
seed cluster that

PCI USB Passthrough on Kernel 3.5 and 3.6 not working (HVM or PVM)
Hi Xenners,
I have tried to upgrade to kernel 3.5 and experienced the USB/PCI
passthrough problem. This has not been "fixed" in 3.6 either. I do not
know if this is qemu, xen or kernel related.
I am using Xen 4.2 final and Xen 4.3-unstable to test.
DomU is Windows 7 64 bit or Linux Fedora 17. In Windows, I get the
little yellow triangle with Code 10 (I know this means nothing...

Help on setting up a PVM
I''m going to set up a PVM on xen-3.3.1 debian-amd64. I need advices
about the best methods to install a fresh debian on it (i.e. how to
choose the kernel for pvm) . I''ve installed xen from sources and only
have one xen kernel in /boot which I''m using for dom0; should I use
the same kernel for domUs?
There is any problem on use vcpus=2; the other vm is an hvm running

Xen to XenServer
I didn''t want to re-open this old post that I found:

however I am in the same predicament.
Can anyone explain how to extract a Windows Server 2008 VM from Xen and
import it into XenServer?

virt-install HVM with url and kickstart?
I have a kickstart file created that works great for installing CentOS on
PVM''s and now I want to use it for HVM''s as well. The problem is that when I
attempt to run the install, it seems to ignore the kickstart and starts
prompting me for all the things I already have specified in the kickstart.
Any idea what I could be doing wrong? Here is the command im using to get

DomU to Dom0 Communication in Xen HVM?
I am new to Xen and want to provide simple communication between my DomU and
Dom0 environments. I just need to be able to pass a few bytes of
information back and forth between DomU and Dom0 while using some form of
event management to know when an update occurs so I can act on it. At
first, it appeared that using XenBus and XenStore might be the right
solution for this. However, after looking
