Best Board Your Ever Ran CentOS On?
Hi,
Whats' the best motherboard you ever ran CentOS on?
---------
Don't read this unless you have lots o' spare time, and please, no
flamers or kook-jobs with wierd attitudes, this is just plain old
hardware as it relates to centos talk -no politic or mean folks.
Background (why I ask about centos-friendly hardware):
As I order alot of servers, I have alot of vendors telling me

Centos on Dell XPS15

I have a Dell Inspiron 13 (8th generation) that I bought from Costco. I
am running CentOS 7 on it. I was told that it has the same hardware of
XPS 13.

Obtaining a newer Broadcomm (bcm43xx) driver for CentOS 5
I'm using CentOS 5 (w/all latest updates as of 2008-01-06) on an HP
laptop -- in fact, the exact laptop described here:
http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Laptops/HP/Pavilion-ze5300_Series
Ever since I switched from SHARED to OPEN authentication (and hence
from using ndiswrapper to the bcm43xx module, as explained on that
wiki page), I've been having packet loss and/or collision on the

Samba 4 + Windows XP very slow - especially noticeable with many files
Hi,
After our upgrade from Samba 3.x to 4.1.6 we are having major
performance issues. Today, I've been able to nail it down to a simple
test case.
What strikes me is that Windows XP takes about 25 seconds for one job,
while it only costs 3 seconds on Windows 7.
I have two tests:
1000 files of 10k each (total ~10Mb):
* Linux on localhost or a remote host (1GE or 10GE): 5.5 seconds

trouble with maxbw
Folks,
I''m playing with maxbw on links (as opposed to flows) in Crossbow, and I
have a couple of questions. First, the limts seem only advisory. The first
example has the main host talking to a zone that has 172.16.17.100
configured on znic0. When there is no maxbw, the throughtput is
as expected; when maxbw is 55M the throughput only drops to 76 Mbps:

OT: 1gigabit Nics
Begging indulgence of the list - asking here because due
to the higher likelyhood of getting an answer...
I have an application that often loses connection from one machine
to another when one (or more) of the machines has particular
brands of 1gig nics, but which runs rock solid when on 10meg
nics and some 1 gig nics.
The application senses (falsely) that the connection has been shut down

Nasty kernel panic
I have seen the following kernel panic 5 times today on
three different machines, two of which had been stable
for months and one of which is a brand new install.
We are running the x86_64 xen kernel and userland tools that came in the
Xen 3.1.0
tarball from xen.org, on top of scientific linux (redhat clone)
5.1 or 5.2.

TargetTransformInfo getOperationCost uses
Hi,
I'm trying to implement the TTI hooks for AMDGPU to avoid unrolling loops for operations with huge expansions (i.e. integer division).
The values that are ultimately reported by opt -cost-model -analyze (the actual cost model tests) seem to not matter for this. The huge cost I've assigned division doesn't prevent the loop from being unrolled, because it isn't actually

maximizing sound quality in 10.0
Hi list,
I have a set of 300 or so WAV files I was combining and playing
using playback/background in 1.4.X. Now that I have moved on to the 10.0
set, I understand that I can replace my 8 Khz mono files with virtually
unlimited Khz mono files (still no stereo, but a quantum leap forward).
I've played with this and get good throughputs using SLIN44 formats on SIP.

FMA canonicalization in IR
The potential advantage I was considering would be more accurate cost
modeling in the vectorizer, inliner, etc. Like min/max, this is another
case where the sum of the IR parts is greater than the actual cost.
Beyond that, it seems odd to me that we'd choose the longer IR expression
of something that could be represented in a minimal form. I know we make
practical concessions in IR based on

HTB shares equally when borrowing enabled :(
Hi,
I''m fighting seriously with a most simple HTB setup. I''d like to share
the incoming 64kbps into 5 and 59 for two different machines under NAT.
HTB seems to hold the required limits when ceil is not set (no
borrowing), but when borrowing enabled it seems to share equally rather
then keeping the specified ratio.
My setup is below. A typical output of "tc -s -d qdisc

Pattern transformation between scalar and vector on IR.
Hi All,
I'm tring to use RSQRT instructions on follow case for ARM
(now what using is sqrt):
1.0 / sqrt(x)
The RSQRT instructions(VRSQRTE/VRSQRTS) are vector type,
but above operation is scalar type. So a transformation must be
done(transform sqrt pattern to rsqrt).
I have completed a patch for this, but I made the transformation in the
backend which will leads to additional

WRR and Monitoring/Graphing usage
Hi All,
I''ve just installed WRR and am looking at tools to monitor, graph and display
the system and throughput of each queue/class/filter.
I''ve looked at:
iptraf - only shows tcp/udp flows, not QOS queue throughputs
show.pl - doesnt work with WRR (as far as I can tell)
tc-graph.pl - doesnt work with WRR (as far as I can tell)
polltc_ - doesnt work with WRR (as far as I can

sparse files patch question
Hello,
i just came across the sparse-block patch.
i`m using rsync to store vmware vmdk virtual disks to a zfs filesystem.
vmdk files have large portions of zeroed data and when thin provisioned (not being used yet), they even may be sparse.
on the target, after writing to zfs the zeroes are always efficiently stored/compressed, i.e. they take no additional space on zfs.
is this patch worth a
