Nested parametrized defines
Dear puppet wizards, http://docs.puppetlabs.com/puppet/3/reference/lang_defined_types.html does not suggest to me that nested parametrized defines would be forbidden, hence I expected the following code to work: add_to_ssh_authorized_keys.pp: -------- define a::ssh_keys::add_to_ssh_authorized_keys($homebasedir="/home", $targetuser="root", $keyowner, $keyownername,

notify defined in exported resource won't work?
Hi all, I noticed a "service notify" defined inside of exported resource won''t work. For example, I have the following exported resource defined: define host($ip = $fqdn, $short_alias = $fqdn) { @@file { "$nagios_cfgdir/${name}_host.cfg": ensure => present, content => template( "nagios/host.erb" ), mode => 644, owner => root,

Export variables into other classes
Hi all I have been pondering this for a while, but not yet seen a clean way to do it I have a few puppet classes (apache/ntp/mysql/bacula/nagios/etc) I would like to generate part of my bacula and nagios configs for each host based on which other classes that host belongs to (or to put it another way, I would like to export variables from classes which would be used by my bacula and nagios

Terrible exported resources performance
Hi, Since the below is a little long, I put my question at the top: how do I troubleshoot awful exported resources performance in puppet and is there anything I can tweak to get it to run under 10 minutes in larger environments? I have a fairly modest environment (118 nodes, but prod will be at least twice as large). I''m trying to move my distributed nagios setup to one based on

resource override
hi All, I''m a bit new to puppet. Is there a mailing list for puppet beginners?:) I have a service module called postfix, which defines file in a class: file { ''/etc/postfix/main.cf'': owner => "root", group => "root", mode => 644, content =>

troubleshooting resource collection
Hi, I''m new to Puppet. And I''m trying out an ssh module: https://github.com/saz/puppet-ssh. It collects ssh keys like this: class ssh::knownhosts { Sshkey <<| |>> { ensure => present, } notify{"knownhosts class: $fqdn $hostname $ipaddress ":} } I can see it echoes the host key of the host the puppet agent runs on. But the

I''m seeing these in my logs on my puppetmaster: puppetmasterd[4111]: Could not store configs: SQLite3::SQLException: SQL logic error or missing database: DELETE FROM fact_values WHERE "id" = 8 currently this is 0.24.0 relect from some previously collected resource that wasn''t cleaned up? upgrade issue? nothing to worry about? that''s the only

Managing multiple nagios servers with puppet and virtual resources
Hi, For several years, we have @work had a puppet environment where when we add a new host/node, some basic monitoring is fed through to a nagios server using virtual resources and an old nagios class which either someone here wrote themselves, or found on the internet at the time. We are trying to move away from the existing puppet environment for a number of reasons, and using this as an

Overriding variables.
I am trying to override variables in a class that is defined in the default node profile. I want parent class to be included in every single node, but override its variables in others. I have tried it several different ways now, and every single time the variables either become unset (undefined) or are set to the value of the first if statement. Here is my current iteration of failure.

Long config retrieval on nodes
Hi all, hoping someone may have encountered a problem similar to this before: On my customer''s EC2 based infrastructure, we have implemented the nodeless, truth driven module outlined by Jordan Sissel here http://www.semicomplete.com/blog/geekery/puppet-nodeless-configuration. It''s quite an effective model, especially in the realm of EC2... we still have a puppetmaster

How do you handle deleted nodes with exported resources in this situation?
I have an issue where for a file type of an exported resource I must define as such: force => false, replace => false, Meaning the file is created, but do not replace after it''s added. I do this because of the app modifies the config file after (I know bad idea on their part). How can I ensure this file is removed when I remove the node from

Nagios XI + Puppet?
Hi All, I currently make use of Icinga (nagios fork) + Puppet for fully automated monitoring. It''s worked great up to this point. I''ve recently been asked to integrate fine grained notifications support into icinga. I''m not entirely sure puppet manifests are the right place to manage contacts, contact groups, and their use within host and service definitions for

Re: #786: exported resources not refreshed
Hello all, what exactly is the "design decision" that is needed here? We currently have the problem that 0.23.2-3 (debian package) does not work when it comes to collecting exported resources. The resources are saved in the database, so picking them up is the problem (db is Mysql5.x). This is a major problem for us, since we are using this a lot for our monitoring services. I

Resource file copy files recurse in existing directory with existing files
Hi, I have a file resource that brings files in the diretory "/usr/local/nagios/libexec" from source1 and I have a second resource file that should bring file in that same directory but from an other source. But the result is that only the files from file { "/usr/local/nagios/libexec": do exit in the directory. I tried remote and true. The resource file {

Exported variable foo...(fu?)
Hi folks, For the first time since I started playing with puppet I started down the road of using exported resources This was inspired by my reading all of the nagios related recipes that went something along the lines of class nagios { package {nagios: ensure=> latest } service {nagios : ensure => running , enable => true} Nagios_host <<! !>>

Why is it so hard to make a sane nagios server config?
I''ve tried to achieve my overall goals with several different features of Puppet, but I''ve hit a bit of a wall here. I think it''s time for me to explain what I''m trying to accomplish: I want the enabling of a service in my manifests to configure the monitoring of that service by a nagios server, without needless repetition. Let me explain how my

Error: Could not retrieve catalog from remote server: execution expired
