How to start/stop database from rake?
Hello, I would like to start the database server (postgres) before tests are run and stop it afterwards. For this, I have created a little wrapper around rake: $ cat run-rake #! /bin/sh DB=`pwd`/db/pgdata # init database cluster if it does not exist yet [ -d $DB ] || initdb -D$DB # start the database server pg_ctl -D$DB -o "-h '''' -k

Centos and Selinux issue
Hi list, I'm new to Centos and I've a very small knowledge of selinux use. I can disable it, but I prefer take it on for study. I've a second mirrored device that I use for file sharing. This is the scenario: /dev/md2 mounted on /mnt/data To make samba working I must set the file context to the path at samba_share_t on /mnt/data. After this samba works. Now I'm setting up

utf-8 support in libc?
Reading thru one of the postgres mailing lists regarding which character encoding to use for a database, someone chimed in and claimed this: Umm, you should choose an encoding supported by your platform and the locales you use. For example, UTF-8 is a bad choice on *BSD because there is no collation support for UTF-8 on those platforms. On Linux/Glibc UTF-8 is well supported but you

Mysterious (bogus?) rsync(d) errors -- (code 23) at main.c(1045)
Folks, (1) Please pardon me if this is something stupid, but I've googled like mad and not figured it out (the other reports of this error don't seem to apply to me) (2) I would be thrilled to hire an rsync expert to troubleshoot this for me, so offer if you are one. The setup: I have 2 identical RHAS3u4 servers, running linux 2.6.10. On a nightly basis, we are rsyncing all of the

PostgreSQL & SELinux problem
Hi. I just installed Centos 4. I''m pretty sure that I chose to have it install postgresql but when the system came up, it wasn''t there. No worries. I installed it from the net with ''yum''. Unfortunately, when I started it up and it tried to init the database, I got a bunch of SELinux errors: Mar 3 13:24:22 dirty kernel: audit(1109874262.006:0): avc:

Postgres Config File (eg: PGDATA)
Hi guys, need some clarification on whether there is a config file sourced by the init script to determine where PGDATA is located. Right now, it seems like it's not sourced from anywhere by located on the init file itself. Appreciate if you guys can let me know if this is the correct place for altering it.

rpm and yum issues
Greetings. I am having issues with rpm/yum on a centos 5.2 x86_64. I am trying to update from 5.2 to 5.4. During yum update, the application became unresponsive during the package search. It had not begun to download any packages. I tried to do a "yum clean all", but that wouldn't complete either. I tried to do a rpm --rebuild, but that failed with a segmentation fault. Tried

yum hangs when Reading Local RPMDB
All of a sudden yum hangs on a Centos 4.5 (updated to the latest patch before 4.6) when I try to use it. "clean metadata" didn't help. The output of -d5 shows it gets to the point of "Reading Local RPMDB" and then sits there. The process doesn't die, but doesn't seem to do anything from that point on. strace shows this: futex(0xb76dcae8, FUTEX_WAIT, 2, NULL I

automount complaints
Folks, I've been getting complaints in our logfiles, such as May 12 10:07:07 <servername> automount[3415]: update_negative_cache: key ".git" not found in map. a) Is there a FAQ on automount that might cover some of this? Googling hasn't found one for me? b) Any clues as to what might be causing this? I see a lot of it, in spurts. mark

IAX complaints? What are they?
Hi, We all know what the principal advantage of IAX is, doing it all on a single port, right? But now and again I hear complaints about it. What specific griefs have you had with IAX and has it stopped you from using it entirely? Under what conditions have you had problems? I have used SIP and IAX for about three years now. We don't do a lot of traffic, but I haven't really seen a
