Unless in exec doesn''t seem to be honored on notify.
This was a fun one to track down... I was trying to use the append_if_no_such_line script from the wiki and it was working fine EXCEPT when I threw a notify at it. The notify appears to completely ignore both unless and onlyif within the exec for some reason. If I put the same test in the actual command line, it works fine. Example: unless => "/bin/grep -Fqe ''$line''

Refreshonly question
Does anyone have a technique for performing an exec the first time puppetd runs but then reverting to refreshonly => true state for subsequent runs? The basic idea is: file { "/etc/foo": notify => Exec["bar"] } exec { "bar": command => "Do stuff to /etc/foo", refreshonly => true } Should I use a fact that is unset based on a

One resource immediately after another
I need to apply three resources one immediatelly after another. It''s a ifdown/ifup commands, and command to generate /etc/network/interfaces file. I need to do ifdown, then rebuild interfaces, then ifup. I try to add simple relationship, but in this case some File resources are trying to be applied between ifdown and ifup. So they can''t connect to Puppet master to verify

Only running database_grant the first time.
I''m using puppet through Vagrant to manage my dev VM, and as part of that I have a few database grants that I run after creating users, but when I subsequently run vagrant up or provision these grants fail (because of some changes I make to the mysql config after they have been created.) I''m using database_grant to execute the grants, but there doesn''t seem to be a

How to handle config files used by a combination of classes?
Hi, How should I handle the combinatorics when one config file must be built for a combination of possible classes? Take for example the amd automounter''s configuration file, which on Debian is found at /etc/am-utils/amd.conf. This is an INI style file which looks like: [fsname1] param1=foo param2=bar [fsname2] param1=baz param2=quag In my case I have one class of machines

[LLVMdev] Compiler driver
Hi all, I'm developing a custom back-end for an odd-ball architecture (but one that is still describable by LLVMTargetMachine). The toolchain that it will fit into doesn't have a linker as such, so I want to use assembly as the default output. I've got to the point of emitting working custom assembly for very simple C programs (i.e. ones that don't rely on libraries). At the

"run once" directive for service or package
hi, is there a way to specify that something is to be run only once, upon install of the package? i''m trying to automate the installation of some services and their requisite packages. some of them require setting up various things afterwards (user, passwords, etc). i know i could have it done via exec & onlyif. however there are obvious security issues with trusting the

How to pass puppet/hiera veriable to external script ? Do I need to ?
Hi, I have a problem with running puppet with hiera based data. I am trying to cleanup user accounts on a range of servers (to have the same uid/gid). When I create existing account but with different uid/gid it doesn''t change files group ownership so I need to run a script which cleanups after cleanup ;-) I use the following code: --- :backends: - yaml :hierarchy: -

audit=>content
Hi All, sorry if this was discussed before but I didn''t find any solution for my problem. Test site.pp consists of 1 line: file { "/tmp/bar": audit => content } exec { ''/usr/bin/true'': refreshonly => true, subscribe => File[''/tmp/bar''] } and it produces this error every time: err: /Stage[main]//Node[localhost]/File[/tmp/bar]:

conditional restart of service
I''m trying to have a exec dependency on a service object that would keep it from being restarted if the exec fails. Unfortunately, the service gets refreshed regardless whenever the exec is run, failure or not. I''ve tried various combinations of subscribe/require/notify, but can''t find an elegant way to not restart the service when the dependency fails. I must be

Puppet + APT, I am lost...
Hi, For the past week, I have been trying to figure out the best way to do package management with Puppet on an Ubuntu system. I have studied many solutons I found on the web, but none of them seem to do exactly what I want. Among other things, I have tried everything that is discussed here: http://groups.google.com/group/puppet-users/browse_thread/thread/af7349171a5821a4/db96b809c97f6006 but

What's the canonical way to enforce permissions/ownership on a directory subtree?
I''ve just tried this (we assume /opt/jetty-6.1.26 already exists): file { "/opt/jetty-6.1.26": owner => "jetty", group => "users", recurse => true, } ... but it''s taking an *age*. What''s the Right Way? Cheers, Robert. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups
