Exported resources not in the catalog
Hi, I''m trying to use Puppet ability to export and collect resources using PuppetDB. My PuppetDB and Puppet Master are running on the same host and I used the PuppetDB puppet module to install PuppetDB and configure the Puppet master. Each time the puppet agent runs on a client, the facts and the catalog are being pushed in PuppetDB and I can query the PuppetDB server to get

Puppet/Nagios/PuppetDB slow performance
Hi all, For months now I''ve been using Puppet with PuppetDB backend to manage my Nagios configs. We now have 1200+ services being checked and including servicedependency, host, hostdependency, command and other Nagios resources being managed, that''s about 3000 resources in total. Unfortunately this means the monitoring server takes about 8 minutes to perform a Puppet run.

strange pson error...
Hello! What does this error means? err: Could not retrieve catalog from remote server: Could not intern from pson: Could not convert from pson: Could not find relationship target "Nagios_hostgroup[]" I cannot find it anywhere in my config... I have only 2 nagios_hostgroups, exported to server, then collected in nagios module. Any ideas? Cheers --- Grzegorz Marszałek

Terrible exported resources performance
Hi, Since the below is a little long, I put my question at the top: how do I troubleshoot awful exported resources performance in puppet and is there anything I can tweak to get it to run under 10 minutes in larger environments? I have a fairly modest environment (118 nodes, but prod will be at least twice as large). I''m trying to move my distributed nagios setup to one based on

puppetdb catalog duplication
Hello, Just kicking the tyres with PuppetDB (1.1.0) on a test setup with 100-odd nodes running only once an hour by default. Looking at the dashboard the catalog duplication is showing 0.0% which seems a little odd to me. Any way to track down why this is and how to correct it as presumably this is not desired behaviour. puppet node clean using SQLite instead of PuppetDB
I have a node that has some bad stored configs (namely the wrong ssh host keys) that I''m trying to clear out. Looking around it seems I''m supposed to do: puppet node clean foo.example.com However, that keeps bailing out because it''s trying to open a SQLite3 db where stored configs are normally kept, but my stored configs are kept in puppetdb (http://pastie.org/7814483

Searching for Nodes
Hello All, I''m reviewing switching to puppet from chef and am trying to identify how to port the various features. I have hit a stumbling block searching for nodes. In Chef i could search for a node by role, but I am lost as how to do this with puppet and classes. Example: I want my load-balancing node to look for all application server nodes and grab their ip address (and hostname

introducing puppetboard 0.0.1
Hello everyone, It’s a lovely grey and rainy day here in the Dutch summer, as good a day as any to release a new little project. Its name is Puppetboard and has as aim to replace Puppet Dashboard’s reporting functionality. It does not nor will it include ENC features. It does all this without storing any data itself but querying PuppetDB instead. The whole thing is built in Python and

Announce: PuppetDB 0.9.0 (first release) is available
PuppetDB, a component of the Puppet Data Library, is a centralized storage daemon for auto-generated data. This initial release of PuppetDB targets the storage of catalogs and facts: * It’s a drop-in, 100% compatible replacement for storeconfigs * It’s a drop-in, 100% compatible replacement for inventory service * It hooks into your Puppet infrastructure using Puppet’s pre-existing

Question about custom function.
Hello group, I''m trying to generate configuration for tomcat server. I want it to depend on my mod_jk properties file. I wrote some simple script which you can see here: http://pastebin.com/CffBr0Nc it works just fine. So I tried to move it to puppet as my custom function. It''s available for review here: http://pastebin.com/AeQgTTT6 Now, when I''m running first in irb,

Getting started with puppet
Hey Folks, I''m just starting to look into Puppet though am finding it a bit confusing as to how to get it setup on the network I administer. At the moment it is a combination of RHEL 4 and SLES 10 boxes with windows and novell also. I know that windows / novell is beside the point though am wondering how to get puppet setup on the RHEL and SLES side of things. Any good howto''s

rvm, rails and sqlite
i need to use old version of ruby (1.8.7) and older version of rails (2.1.0) so i decided to use rvm. however since i''m somewhat new to ruby and rails i''m having issues. i created a gemset with rvm for my project, installed rails 2.1.0 into it. after that i created a project and a scaffolding for it. however i bumped onto an issue with sqlite3 (or sqlite3-ruby). it seems to me

Problem retreiving catalog
I updated some of my gems, and I think it may be the reason I am getting the following error when the agents try to retrieve a catalog. err: Could not retrieve catalog from remote server: Error 400 on SERVER: The single-table inheritance mechanism failed to locate the subclass: ''Host::Managed''. This error is raised because the column ''type'' is reserved for

PuppetDB & KahaDB db.data leak
Hi all, I''ve been looking at a potential problem, as documented here: http://projects.puppetlabs.com/issues/19241 To do with a leak within the KahaDB persistence layer of ActiveMQ. Specifically, there are reports of the db.data file growing unbounded: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/AMQ-3956 I''m hoping to find out information from other PuppetDB users to see if this is

Sync data between various PuppetDB instances
Dear all, We have a few reasons to have various PuppetDBs (and Masters, one per cluster) in our datacenter and, eventually, there may be a need to share *only* a few exported resources between clusters, like a few ssh-keys or nagios tests. Is there a mechanism to pull and push some exported resources from one PuppetDB to another? I guess this could be done with the API, but has anybody tried it,

puppetdb listening on TCP Ports 1099 and 58772
PuppetDB is operating fine, but I can''t figure out how to disable it from listening globally on TCP 1099 or 58722 How do I disable them from listening globally without having to resort to iptables? $ lsof -i -n -P | grep java | grep LISTEN java 30115 puppetdb 22u IPv6 119118 0t0 TCP *:1099 (LISTEN) java 30115 puppetdb 23u IPv6 117236 0t0 TCP *:58772
