Puppet 3.0: Not authorized to call find on /file_metadata, more issues?
I''ve seen mention of this error in several places, with different causes.
So before I posted here, I attempted to resolve this on my own.
I corrected the change from puppet:///files to puppet:/// in my manifests
*.pp files.
No changes were made to the auth.conf file, and I did note in the ChangeLog
that:
Auth.conf differentiates between names and IPs – There’s a new allow_ip

Puppet 3.0 fails install on Solaris 10 w/ ruby 1.8.7
There''s a problem installing puppet on Solaris 10 -- in this situation, we

The version we''re using is:

Deploying puppet via NFS
I''m attempting to deploy puppet via an NFS share. It''s on a local-only
network, and it will contain only ruby (gems) and whatever is needed.
Seems simple enough, but tonight I am having an issue with this error:
# service puppet start
Starting puppet: /local/lib/ruby/site_ruby/1.8/rubygems/
custom_require.rb:36:in `gem_original_require'': no such file to load

Deploy puppet via NFS?
In our environ, there are several services that are deployed via an
NFS mount, so that the executables and configs are consistent across
the board.
Is there any reason why this couldn''t be done with Puppet? For
example, each individual system would contain its own /etc/puppet and
rc.d and pid files -- but the primary deployment would come from
NFS.
For that matter, as Enterprise

Handling unmanaged resources and their files/configs
We have resources that, from time to time, are selected to be removed
(unmanaged). When it comes to ssh keys, fstab... this leaves a lot
of stuff behind that we don''t want. Is there a simple way to remove
the unmanaged data so we can keep the systems clean.
Thanks.

Managing entries in /etc/group (membership)
I have a requirement to manage membership to groups in /etc/group.
These members do not need to be virtual users. I don''t see a way to
do this through virtual users @group. How are others doing this?

Using ruby-1.9.x with Puppet 0.25.x
I read somewhere recently about problems with Puppet and Ruby 1.9.
I''m wondering if this is still an issue?
Thanks.

Deploying puppet with puppet, best practices
Our shop is newly adopting puppet. Our number of nodes is growing
and my installation method is thus far manual and tedious. This will
change when/if we migrate to Puppet Enterprise.
My question is what''s a best practice for managing puppet
installations on client nodes? Is it possible to separate out the
client portion of the install from the server or is that now fully

upgrade to 3.0, ruby and rhel 5
Hi all,
I wanted to upgrade today the clients to 3.0 but, for RHEL 5, ruby
1.8.7 is not in the official repos. If we upgrade from the official
(1.8.5) package to the puppetlabs provided one, there is a good chance
that we will lose support for several applications that we are
running.
Is there a way around this? (except upgrading to PE, which will come
next year :D )
Thanks.

Changing NFS mount options to read only (ro) does not affect puppet change
I have some NFS directories that get changed to a read-only status
after a period of time. I noticed in puppet, if I change these
values and restart puppet and puppetmaster respectively, it does not
pick up the change in the mount {} directive.
Is there a way around this, or a better way to affect the change.
Thanks.

Puppet client won't autostart
I''m getting this problem on all the puppet client''s I''ve been setting up

obvious in any system logs) and pausing in my rollout until I get it solved:

Migrating from Puppet open-source to Puppet Enterprise
We have perhaps 40 to 50 systems, give or take, that are mostly under
Puppet management (not all). After having spent some time doing my own
thing with open-source, I''m looking into migrating to PE.
One question I have is relative to initial deployment -- if I decide to
keep PuppetDB on the same server as Master, can I later migrate that role
off onto another host? I

service --status-all hangs CentOS-4.6?
Is there a problem with running
# service --status-all
as root over ssh?
A system that I performed this command upon has become non-responsive on all
ports, leading me to conclude that it is either hung or the cpu is completely
consumed with some task.

ldap idmap backend
Hi all,
i use Samba 3.5.6 in ads mode (Windows 2008R2) with ldap idmap backend. Servers run Centos 4 and 5.
I can't cope with next issue for long time.
On all servers in domain winbind constantly tries to create mapping for
<SID>-513
and fails because of already existing entry.
It just wastes gid range.
Note that <SID> is not SID of main domain but another which name equal to

ORC API C Standard/System Libraries
Hi all,
First of all, I want to say that I really appreciate all the work that's
gone into LLVM, clang and the ORC API. I would be very unlikely to be doing
my current project if they weren't available.
I'm using the ORC API to JIT some C code (soon to be C++) on Windows.
(I was on LLVM 8.0.0 but it didn't handle the 'allocator' attribute so I
upgraded to LLVM 9.0.0.)
