bad hardlinks with rsync
Hi List
I've experienced some problems with rsync. I'm backuping a complete
machine's rootdirectory. After completion I see in the log of the
output, that rsync links some files which are surely *not* the same
on the source System. Or well, it says, that it makes links, using
the filename1 => filename2 notation. On the source System this files
are not the same and some files are

Help with correct text file syntax EXCLUDE/INCLUDE + OPTION
Hi,
Linux-Ubuntu here. English is not my first language. The man rsync is
difficult to understand. I want to backup some folders recursively and
some files, see [1] in my /home dir to an external USB HD (Ext4). I want
to use a text file for the purpose.

SCP file corruptions
Hi,
I apparently was asleep at the wheel using scp, and accidentally copied a
file onto itself. Scp generated an Input/Output error and did not perform
the copy. However, now the file is corrupt. Is this a but? Is there anyway
to fix the file I messed up?
Thanks,
Don Gathman

How to Retain Ownership on webdir
Hi,
I have this webroot /webdir/ with 2775 permission so that any created
file/directory by apache inside of /webdir/ will be 'users:webusers'.
However, I noticed when the apache created a new files (fileB) / directories
(dirB), the ownership becomes 'apache:apache' and the sgid has gone for
/webdir/ (drwxrwxr-x). I'm currently using Wordpress.

Thanks. I hope that this code will help to avoid "bug" reports
such as http://sourceforge.net/p/flac/bugs/409/ (it seems that
the author of this report compiled FLAC without --enable-sse option).
OTOH, SSE support is

sh DTrace provider available
As noted on my blog and at
http://www.opensolaris.org/os/community/dtrace/shells/ I''ve made
available a DTrace provider for the Bourne shell. Before anyone starts
yelling at me for not starting with another shell, read the blog I made
explaining why we started with shell (link on the community page
referenced above).
For /bin/sh, I''ve put up something akin to a chapter in

[PATCH 0/4] nouveau: xserver 1.13 compat fixes
Here are a few patches adding some missing functions in
NvPlatformProbe, which iirc is being used as of xserver 1.13
First patch adds a nouveau_kernel_mode_enabled helper, similar
to xf86-video-radeon
Second and third use the function in Nv{Pci,Platform}Probe
And last one ensures we can still use ZaphodHead and relative
head positioning via xorg.conf
The coding style may be a bit off, despite my

Dovecot (unofficial) patches
Dear list,
As a recent dovecot addict, I'm a bit puzzled by the sheer amount of
patches available. I have not seen the history of these patches and I
could not find a README explainng the patches. Are all these personal
wishes/nice to have things or are they (to be) incorporated in
dovecot-final?
I use rpmbuild to create new rpms from the latest tarball but in that
process still several
