Newbie stuck on facter not finding hostname
Hi all,
I''m trying to get puppet working for the first time, and I''ve run into
something that''s got me stumped. This is all on Solaris 10/x64. The
initial startup of puppetmasterd wasn''t working, and it appeared to be
related to the SSL certs not getting generated properly. I managed to
trace that down to the fact that facter isn''t finding the

hi, guys
I looked at http://guides.rubyonrails.org/debugging_rails_applications.html
and figured I give bleak house a try.
I ran into a problem during installation of the gem.
Here''s an extract:

SLES11: facter without arguments produces Error: uninitialized constant Facter::IPAddress
Hi, I run into problems with the ipaddress fact using the latest
Facter gem (1.6.4, 1.6.5) on SLES11. The versions and gems I use work
perfectly fine on SLES10 SP3.
The problem: running "facter" without arguments results in an error,
even though the erroring fact "ipaddress" is ok.

Facter operatingsystemrelease on Fedora
Currently, facter returns the kernel version as both the kernel and
operatingsystemrelease facts. I would like to change that so that on
Fedora, operatingsystemrelease is the release number (5,6,7 etc.) or
''Rawhide'' ... are there any objections to making that change ?

BETA: New Solaris Packages for facter-1.3.7 and puppet-0.22.4 available for testing
Hi,
I put new Solaris packages for facter and puppet in testing:
http://www.blastwave.org/testing/facter-1.3.7-SunOS5.8-all-CSW.pkg.gz
http://www.blastwave.org/testing/puppet-0.22.4-SunOS5.8-all-CSW.pkg.gz
As well as being the latest versions of facter and puppet, the puppet
package now respects csw.conf to prevent puppetd autostarting on install and
will install in a global zone only unless

Facter recipies
Hello! In going over some of the sample cases on the Puppet wiki,
(specifically the Debian tips) I saw a pretty clear need for more
facts. Is there a place to submit new facts?
In this case, the definition of a variable for each node''s Debian
Version seemed like an easy thing to introspect. The following is
what I whipped up... please let me know if I''m doing

ANNOUNCE: Facter 1.3.6
Hi all,
I''ve just put out a new release of Facter. It''s just a small bug-fix
release, including fixes for the problem encountered in virtual
machines, those encountered on machines with no ''which'', and the fact
that ssh keys previously included the key type and description (and
now just have the keys).
Enjoy,
Luke

A double treat!
There have been quite a few new facts added to Facter recently, and a

ANNOUNCE: Facter 1.3.5
This fixes a very small bug: On non-linux OSes, facter was printing to
STDERR a message that lsb_release was missing.
This is now fixed.

MCO caching Facts from Facter
Hi,
We are trying to use a custom fact to tell us the version of our service in
order to do hot deployment. The idea is that we poll mco for servers with
this fact matching the new version until it returns that there are some,
which is a signal we can move on to the next server.
Unfortunately we''re bumping into the cache of facts mentioned in the server
config here:
