Puppet apply and send reports?
Hi all, I hope somebody can help me with something.
We have a rather large number of netbooted nodes that we are running
"puppet apply" via a script and a cron job every 30 minutes
I was wondering if there is a way to configure puppet apply, to also send
any reports to our dashboard server that is being used for our normal
puppet clients and what would be the way to go about doing

EC2 with puppet bootstrap notes and scripts
Hello...
I wanted to be able to startup an EC2 instance with one command and
have a fully functioning server without having to shell into each new
instance and configure the bits to allow puppet to finish the
configuration. Here are some notes I came up with for bootstrapping an
ec2 instance with puppet using Ubuntu 10.04. I left out a lot of things
about creating and running custom AIM

Puppet agent problem on Ubuntu
I''m in the process of setting up puppet and experiencing some issues.
I''m running Ubuntu 11.04 desktop and server in two seperate VM''s. I''ve
installed puppet master (2.6.4) and puppet (2.6.4). The puppet master
and agent are happily working together.
I''m running the example in the book Pro Puppet. This is the first
example;

So I am beginning the long process of learning puppet... and it seems
that I am missing some vital things.

So I have been trying to run puppet once in my kickstart %post scripts but
every time it detaches and daemonizes even though I have explicitly stated
otherwise. Am I missing something?

Trouble with ENC and static.pp : enabling ENC fails to find node even with default node in site.pp
I''m having some trouble with getting an ENC to work alongside site.pp:
Even with a ''default'' node definition, and an ENC that only returns 0,
regardless of input, consistently results in a ''cannot find node'' error.
I''m wondering what I''ve missed here.
I''ve tried to reduce everything to a ''base case'': and

Changes on master applied only on second run on nodes
Hi!
If I change manifest on master and then immediately run "puppet agent
--no-daemonize --report --pluginsync --onetime" then it still uses old
version of manifest. When I run it second time it sees changes and
applies them.
Why is it like that? Is it intended to be so?

cert issues, puppet agent applying configs, problems oh my!
So I''m new to puppet and I''m having a bear of a time just getting a test
server going.
I installed puppet and the puppet client via yum on CentOS on AWS, so that
saved me some time.
I followed a few various blog posts about getting everything set up and
applying a file, etc.
Now I am trying to install a module (puppetlabs/apache) and it''s failing
miserably for me.

Running puppet agent and master from cron jobs
I see that there''s a thread from September asking a very similar
question ("Official puppetlabs position on cron vs puppet as a
service?"). I want to ask what should I take into account when making
this decision?
Just some background:
- All my servers are Red Hat or CentOS
- We have about 5 servers managed by Puppet now. The goal is to have
~50 servers.
These are generally

Puppet agents stop reporting after master runs out of disk space...
I am experiencing a curious event, and wondering if others have seen
this... As well, I have a question related to it.
Today, I noticed my puppet summary report from Foreman this morning,
that 60 of my 160 hosts all stopped reporting at nearly the exact same
time, and have not since restarted. Investigating, it appears that my
puppetmaster temporarily ran out of disk space on the /var

exit status of puppet agent --detailed-exitcodes
Hello group,
is there a way to make puppet NOT return 2 if only exec{ } and notify{ }
were called?
Background is as follows:
I''m calling puppet agent via cron on my hosts, and I want to get mails if
something changes.
For this, I used the exit code of "puppet agent
--test --detailed-exitcodes", which should be 2 then (or 4/6 on error).
Now, every stupid notify { } or exec{

environment ENC vs cmdline
Hi all,
I am using puppet with an ENC script. In this scripts YAML output the
environment (generally "production") is set.
For testing purposes I would like to start puppet runs from the
cmdline of a managed host like:
$ puppet agent --onetime --no-daemonize --verbose --no-splay
--environment development
The problem is the --environment Parameter is not being used if an

Bug: rsync erroneously changes modification time
How exactly does rsync determine that the copy has the incorrect
timestamp and not the source file?
Does it assume that the copy must be incorrect or are there other
criteria that have to be considered?
Quoting Kevin Korb via rsync <rsync at lists.samba.org>:
