Puppet Agent VS User
Hello, Running into a problem when wanting to daemon-ize the agent. It doesnt seems to do anything: - cannot find any daemon process with (ps aux | grep puppet) - the config is not updated after editing some params on the master - /var/log/puppet stay empty... while, when logged as root, it is working without issue with $puppet agent --test. ##Conf Ubuntu 12.04 Puppet 2.7.11 ## Daemon is

Creating client certificates
I testing Puppet 0.19.3. If we decide to use it, we''d deploy it across several thousand hosts. The method described for creating client certificates described in the documentation - running "puppetd --server <server> --waitforcert 60 --test" and "puppetca --sign <client>" - is not practical for our installation. I''ve tried creating

Storeconfigs and nagios and foreman
All- Poking around in the bug database it looks like storeconfigs is being actively worked on. I am using 2.7.6 on my master as well as all the clients. I have clients boot , start puppet and get a signed cert via auto signing. The nagios module (and currently the only thing puppet does) complains a lot during compile time about not having storeconfigs enabled, which is not the case in my

Catalog compile times > 40s - Puppet 2.7.18
I am finding that the puppetlabs-apache module is somehow adding 30-60 seconds onto a host''s catalog compile time when the puppetmaster has no other hosts contacting or generating catalogs. The Puppetmaster is setup to use Puppet-2.7.18 - Apache & Passenger. RIght now only 2 hosts are even configured to use this new PM, the PM itself and a Foreman host. With neither hosts

autosign by IP address range
Hello All. I read in an earlier post at http://markmail.org/search/?q=autosign+issues#query:autosign%20issues+page:1+mid:we6jrbn7hdjnhrie+state:results that as of puppet v24.4, autosigning did not support IP addresses. I am running v25.5. Is this still the case? Cheers, David -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Puppet Users" group. To

puppetmasterd --mkusers
I''m trying to run puppetmasterd the first time with --mkusers. It fails with the following error message: 001 # /usr/bin/puppetmasterd --mkusers Could not configure for running; got 1 failure(s) Adding --verbose and --debug does nothing to improve the output. How do I begin to debug this? --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are

authenticating new nodes that are created by provisioning
Hey Folks, I''m looking at doing automated provisioning of new servers and am trying to integrate puppet into this process. What I''m wondering though is what the best process for securely registering a new node is. At the moment the first time puppet is run I have to then accept the certificate on the puppetmaster and then run puppet again. What I would like to do is accept the

Puppet ignores hiera completely
I''m not sure at all what''s going on here, but I''ve spent a lot of time reading over the puppet hiera docs and setting everything up, but when I run puppet agent it just seems to ignore the hiera setup completely. Both the puppet master and agent nodes have exactly the same versions of puppet and hiera (installed via the official puppet APT repository). I''ve

Puppetmasterd not receiving certificate request
Hi: I''m trying to configure Puppet on Ubuntu, and strangely I am never able to generate a certificate because my server never shows any pending certificate requests. Put differently, on the server I am running puppetmasterd and on the client I am able to connect to the server, but the client continues printing notice: Did not receive certificate warning: peer certificate

About autosigning and the FAQ entry
Hello! The FAQ contains an entry about autosigning: http://reductivelabs.com/trac/puppet/wiki/FrequentlyAskedQuestions#why-shouldn-t-i-use-autosign-for-all-my-clients It says: > The certificate itself is stored, so two nodes could not connect with the same CN I tried this (using 0.25.4), and actually, that doesn''t seem to be correct. I was able to run puppetd on two different

How to execute an arbitrary script when a puppetclient ask for a manifest?
Hi, I would like to use Puppet in the cloud (think gogrid) to configure stem images. Virtual machines are created/destroyed on the fly under control of a load monitor. For this reason we cannot sign manually new Puppet clients, instead, we must use Puppet''s autosign feature. At the moment, Puppet just permits to filter client manifest requests with some regex over the hostname of the

Certificate nightmares
I think I really hosed my certificates somehow this morning trying to get PuppetDB and Puppet talking again -- here''s where I stand. My Puppet master and PuppetDB are again talking, or at least, aren''t complaining about communication. From my puppet master, I can run "puppet agent -t", and it runs just fine. From any other node on which puppet had been running, I

Workstations and Certs
I am trying to come up with a workable solution in managing numerous Mac workstations allowing a high degree of flexibility with regards to certs. My puppet environment is setup to application installation on machines that have been ''imaged'' with a base OS and the puppet and facter apps. So, when a Mac is ''imaged'' and subsequently re-booted, puppet is run at

EC2 with puppet bootstrap notes and scripts
Hello... I wanted to be able to startup an EC2 instance with one command and have a fully functioning server without having to shell into each new instance and configure the bits to allow puppet to finish the configuration. Here are some notes I came up with for bootstrapping an ec2 instance with puppet using Ubuntu 10.04. I left out a lot of things about creating and running custom AIM

Certificate problems
Hi all, I''m trying to set up puppet 0.24.5 using the packages provided for Mandriva 2009.0. After installing the packages and starting the puppetmaster service for the first time, the relevant CA certificates and keys are generated automatically and placed in subdirectories of $ssldir. However, when I then run puppetd on the same machine thus: $ puppetd --server myhost.mydomain

security of auto-sign?
I am looking into alternatives for the initial cert sign for new puppet clients. We will have non-sysadmins kickstarting new hosts, and I am trying to minimize the time they have to wait for a cert sign while maintaining at least a marginally sane level of security. My question is this: does the puppetmaster check that a new cert request for host A (csr with subject "cn=A.mydomain") is

centos 6.2 - puppet 2.7.13 - SSL_connect returned=1 errno=0 state=SSLv3 read server session ticket A: tlsv1 alert protocol version
Hi! I''ve installed puppetmaster 2.7.13 on a server with CentOS 6.2 with a rpm supplied by yum.puppetlabs.com. I''ve setup a apache2 vhost with mod_ssl and passenger. The server is configured to autosign the cert requests. The agent installed on the puppetmaster''s server works fine. I''ve a second agent on a server which can sync with the server too. This

probably running puppet on red hat for the first time
Here at the University of Sydney I''m trying to give Puppet a go. I haven''t made it past first base yet unfortunately. We run RHEL 4 here, for the most part, and the install guide at http://reductivelabs.com/trac/puppet/wiki/InstallationGuide says that you should use the vendor''s Ruby, but Red Hat''s current version of Ruby is 1.8.1-07 - is this new
