Solaris 10 Client "Default Provider for User" Woes Again
Hopefully I''m just missing something simple, but I''m having trouble
getting just the absolute bare-bones puppet set up on a new, clean
Solaris 10 install.
When I try to run:
/opt/csw/bin/puppetd --verbose --no-daemonize --server
puppet.mydomain.com
I just get:
err: Could not create resources for managing Puppet''s files and
directories in sections [:main, :agent,

Adding a parameter to a custom Puppet type/provider
Hi All,
I''ve downloaded a Puppet module and I''m trying to add a parameter to it by
editing lib/puppet/type/<resource>.rb. I simply added:
newproperty(:pcfree) do
desc "My description here"
end
In the corresponding file in lib/puppet/provider, I do something with
:pcfree.
Whenever I call the resource from Puppet with my new parameter, it keeps

Puppet Agent VS User
Hello,
Running into a problem when wanting to daemon-ize the agent. It doesnt
seems to do anything:
- cannot find any daemon process with (ps aux | grep puppet)
- the config is not updated after editing some params on the master
- /var/log/puppet stay empty...
while, when logged as root, it is working without issue with $puppet agent
--test.

Custom Package Provider Issue
I''m running into a weird issue with a custom package provider for PEAR. I''m
using the provider I found here<https://raw.github.com/gist/305778/13f46dea6eba07e38778d7159644b4210ebe7bbe/pear.rb>and the provider itself works fine. I''ve got it stored on the Puppet master
under /etc/puppet/modules/common/lib/provider/package/pear.rb and the
puppet.conf has pluginsync

new puppet providers
I might have the terminology wrong, but how to a give new puppet
providers to the puppet clients?
I''m thinking a provider is the thing the puppet client uses to
implement a task that the master has given it.
Am I way off here?

I downloaded it from Github and placed it in

On a Windows 8 client, I have a very simple manifest:

Custom ruby modules/classes, standard namespacing, pluginsync, etc.
still pretty new to Ruby, please bare with me :) Say I have a module
with a custom type, structured like so:
[modules]/mymodule/manifests/init.pp
[modules]/mymodule/lib/puppet/provider/mytype/foo.rb
[modules]/mymodule/lib/puppet/type/mytype.rb
In foo.rb, I''d like to call some custom ruby functions in a module and/
or class. These are generic functions that may be used in other
modules,
