Puppet on OpenSuSE & SLES
Hi, I''m a big fan of Puppet and managed to have my company accept it. However, I''m having issues deploying it (I''m used to the debian version which works perfectly out of the box) : - There doesn''t seem to be an official repository for Suse (I''ve seen it mentionned in the bugtracker but yum.puppetlabs.com doesn''t contain SUSE packages). -

Dependency cycles, please help.

SLES11: facter without arguments produces Error: uninitialized constant Facter::IPAddress
Hi, I run into problems with the ipaddress fact using the latest Facter gem (1.6.4, 1.6.5) on SLES11. The versions and gems I use work perfectly fine on SLES10 SP3. The problem: running "facter" without arguments results in an error, even though the erroring fact "ipaddress" is ok. test:~ # cat /etc/SuSE-release SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 (x86_64) VERSION = 11 PATCHLEVEL

Puppet on SLES
I currently manage approximately 150 hosts with a handful of ZLM policies, but I''ve had one too many policies lost by the management server to keep using this solution. I''m wondering if anyone has any experiences (good or bad) they''d be willing to share specific to using Puppet with SLES (9 and 10). What experiences have you had with package management tools? Would

domUloader Vs pygrub
Hi I have been using pygrub for most of the needs. Was trying out some stuff on SLES 10 SP1. It seems that it does not have pygrub!! On the other hand, they have domUloader.py which requires bootargs="--entry=hda:/boot/vmlinuz...., path to ramdisk. It is quite strange to be asking for the path of the kernel and the ramdisk to be supplied in the conf file!!. Am I missing something

Scheduled maintenance?
I''m running xen on SLES10SP2. It''s been much more stable than SP1, but I still occasionally have issues. For example, one of my servers (8 CPU/32GB RAM) has five sles pv domUs and five fully virtualized windows 2k3 domUs. It had been up for almost 60 days. Yesterday afternoon one of the sles domU''s stopped responding. I went to check on it and I couldn''t using

how can you boot an existing linux domU off the cdrom on sles11 dom0?
I have a sles10 domU running on a sles11 dom0. xen is version 3.4. We''re trying to pass through a scsi card to the domU. We assign the domU the scsi card through virt manager. When we try to boot the domU it won''t boot. We need to update fstab and menu.lst, but we need to boot with the hardware attached to see how it''s being seen by the domU. On a physical machine we

Moving to new puppetmaster - certificates
Unfortunately I haven''t been able to find anything in the docs... I just built a new puppetmaster to replace my testing install on an old box. The hostname is different, and obviously the master certificates are different. What needs to be done to the clients to get them to play nice with the new box? Thanks, Jason Antman --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You

[PATCH] use ncurses-config to find all curses related libs
After a split of libtinfo from libncurses in openSuSE Factory the tools will not link anymore. In the URL below it was suggested to use ''ncurses-config --libs'' to find the correct linker options. But ncurses-config does not exist neither in SLES11 nor in openSuSE. So check for both ncurses5-config and ncurses-config, if the latter happens to exist in other environments. With

allow_duplicate_certs = true not working?
I saw this feature became available in 2.7.0rc1 and wanted to try it out. I entered ''allow_duplicate_certs = true'' on both my master and agent systems in the puppet.conf (not sure if its need in both, saw it in genconf for puppetd and puppetmasterd though ...). I also have autosign.conf configured to allow autosigning for our domain (*.domain.com). I had my agent register with

syslog-ng or rsyslog?
Hi All. I've used syslog-ng for some time. I like it. I have a project in which I need to choose a central logging solution. What are your experiences with rsyslog? Is it more complex to setup than syslog-ng? Or maybe does it have some additional features? I am also thinking about using some gui tools for log parsing and graphing. May be proprietary/paid. Any suggestions? Best regards,

Modules review
Hello, i have written some modules for Puppet and would be thankful, if someone could take a look for quality enhancements. http://194.94.79.17/hotkey/puppet.tar.gz The only nasty part is, that i have defined some global variables at the site.pp, which i am using at several templates. And i am looking for a solution to collect the hostnames and ipaddresses of all connected nodes, without

Struggling to define multiple yum/rug repositories
My head hurts from trying to figure this out for the past several hours . . . I want to determine what provider to use based on a fact (thanks for the suse version fact btw) but I ain''t gettin it: What''s wrong? Am I going down the completely wrong path? Is there a better way? # suse-yum.pp case $suse_repo_name { #sled10-i586: {Package{ provider => rug}} sled10-i586:

ocfs2 in sles11 vs. sles10
I'm trying to mount a ocfs2 volume (created on sles11) on my sles10sp2 server. I created the volume with these options: "mkfs.ocfs2 -C 128k -L CLUFS -M cluster -N 16 /dev/sdc". (dev/sdc is an iscsi device). It works to mount the volume with "mount.ocfs2 /dev/sdc /ocfs2" on my boxes (with o2cb configured for both nodes). When creating files on the ocfs2 volume I cant see

Is there a way to push/copy a file from client to master ?
I am dealing with SSL certificates for secure rsyslog that need to be created on each machine and then collected onto the logging server. Getting a file from puppetmaster to client is trivial, but how do I reverse the process ? “Sometimes I think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us.” Bill Waterson (Calvin & Hobbes)

Provider Augeas not functional on Sles10?
Hi, I have a problem with augeas, puppet and Suse 10 SP2. Augeas works when I use the augtool to edit files. But I would like to use it in combination with puppet. My class looks something like this: augeas {"sysctl.conf": provider => "augeas", context => "/files/etc/sysctl.conf", changes => [ "set
