Plugins and Hiera
Dear all, This is a continuation of another thread, but I think the question diverged enough to create a new one. I have a hiera hierarchy like this: :hierarchy: - %{fqdn} - %{secundary_group} - %{primary_group} - %{productname} - all And I need to define the secondary/primary groups as facts, on the nodes. Gary has suggested me to use plugins, that they will provide the facts before

stdlib module not working
I´m trying to utilize the new stdlib module, but got stuck after installation on my puppet server. I´ve tried to use the included test file file_line.pp on the server, but it´s only creating the file - but not managing the content. the same problem on my clients (the new provider file_line has been synced), it´s just not working: file_line { ''puppet master host

puppet way of handling rdist and triggers
We have an existing "management system" of sorts, based on rdist. I''d like to know the best way to migrate it to using puppet. Currently, we have a local binaries tree, rdisted out nightly. We also make use of rdist''s extra capability to trigger scripts when and if named files are updated. I''m not sure what the best method would be, of converting this to

How to manage one line in a file by puppet
Hi, I want to write a puppet module for xen on Debian. This module will need to manage one line in the file /etc/default/grub, namely the line starting with "GRUB_CMDLINE_XEN=". Currently I want to leave the rest of the file untouched. Which would be the best way to do this? I see two options: a) Do some `sed` magic on the file in a `exec` call. Downside: puppet won''t notice

Manage but don't create resource
Hi, I have certain situations where I want to manage user attributes, if the user already exists on a system, but not actually create them if they are missing. Is there a way to do this? I tried removing the explicit "ensure => present", but this seems to have no effect (i.e. missing users still created). I am running 2.7.9. Thanks, Alan -- You received this message because

neatest way to determine a major version of centos/linux?
Just started a rollout of centos 6.x across our Puppet deployment (100-odd servers). what fact would people suggest I use to distinguish 5.x from 6.x (quite a lot of subsystems are different between major releases)? lsb* facts don''t seem to be present on centos 6 - is this an EPEL bug, or have they just been removed in Facter? Slight oversight in the type documentation
So I was looking at the type reference, and noticed that for a lot of the types, no namevar was listed. When I checked the types in the code, for each of those omissions, the namevar was simply "name". Now, it might be self evident that this is the case, but a little documentation couldn''t hurt, If not in each type, at least in the section where it describes what namevars

Collector not realizing own exported resources when filtering on tags
I''m trying to create a ssh class where the /etc/ssh/ssh_known_hosts and /etc/ssh/shosts.equiv stays updated. The issue i''m finding is that if I include a "tag == anything" in the Collector filter, it collects all resources EXCEPT it''s own. In this case, the known_hosts and .equiv files will have all the other hostnames, but not it''s own hostname.

Managing /etc/yum.conf
Hi, It''s easy enough to modify, say, the "exclude" variable in /etc/yum.conf with something like: augeas { yum_exclude_kernel: context => ''/files/etc/yum.conf/main'', changes => ''set exclude kernel*'' } However, I''d like a more flexible system where I can "build" the list of excludes from
