Collector not realizing own exported resources when filtering on tags
I''m trying to create a ssh class where the /etc/ssh/ssh_known_hosts and
/etc/ssh/shosts.equiv stays updated. The issue i''m finding is that if I
include a "tag == anything" in the Collector filter, it collects all
resources EXCEPT it''s own. In this case, the known_hosts and .equiv files
will have all the other hostnames, but not it''s own hostname.

forcing user resource provider to be local files only?
I see that there are an assorted bunch of "provider" types for resource
type user. Are there not any "local file" providers for it?
I have need of ensuring that certain local user accounts get created on all
machines, reguardless of what the system "/bin/password" and "useradd"
type mechanisms are set to.
It would be really nice to find a pre-written

2.6.2 excluding an exported resource
I have the class below to export host entries.
However I wish to override the entry for my host to 127.0.0.1
So for all of the hosts other than foo.bar.com I would like them to
have the real IP address but for foo.bar.com I would like to just have
the loopback host entry. 2.6.2 doesn''t allow multiple tags and if I
put in another entry for localhost there is a collision.
Is there any

Collecting _all_ ssh keys
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA512
Hello,
I read and find a way (well, there seems to be several equal
implementations) to collect the ssh keys of machines. However they all
give only the choice to choose between the key formats.
But is there a way to collect both keys of a machine, the rsa _and_ the
dss key (and maybe the rsa1 too)? I didn''t find a way to solve this as

How to manage one line in a file by puppet
Hi,
I want to write a puppet module for xen on Debian. This module will need
to manage one line in the file /etc/default/grub, namely the line
starting with "GRUB_CMDLINE_XEN=". Currently I want to leave the rest of
the file untouched.
Which would be the best way to do this?
I see two options:
a) Do some `sed` magic on the file in a `exec` call. Downside: puppet

Puppet 3.7.1

Local hardening guidelines say that /usr/local and /var/log/audit have to be separate partitions.
OK, so I make "mount" resources.
Now the problem: The order of the mount points in /etc/fstab makes a difference.
I had /usr/local before /usr, and at boot, the mount of /usr/local failed because the mount point did not (yet) exist.
So I need

Puppet host alias problem
Hi,
I''ve got the following resource:
host { "host.domain.com":
alias => [ "host", "alias" ],
ip => "1.2.3.4",
ensure => present,
}
The resulting line in my /etc/hosts file is:
1.2.3.4 host.domain.com
Any alias definitions seem to be ignored?
What am I doing wrong?
Best regards,
Dieter

puppet-lint -- learning stuff about style but also generating questions
Here''s one I learned:
I originally had
# Ensure /etc/hosts contains the basics
host { "${fqdn}":
host_aliases => $hostname,
ip => $ipaddress,
}
And thru some trial and error, got down to this (which puppet-lint does not gripe about)
# Ensure /etc/hosts contains the basics
host { $fqdn:
host_aliases => $hostname,
ip => $ipaddress,
}

Puppet Forge question
I''m running puppet in a local VM to do some testing, and all of our systems
are behind a proxy. I''ve got the http_proxy environment variable set
properly, but when I try to use puppet module install <foo> it doesn''t seem
to honor it and can''t connect.
I used wget to download it, but even when I use modulepath it still tries

Puppet & Oracle Database config management
Afternoon all.
I''ve been reading around on Puppet and Oracle, and have come up with a few
links that suggest how to get Oracle installed and base configured, which
has got me started in the right direction on that.
My next challenge is maintaining Oracle database specific configuration on
the relevant hosts. This contains various elements, such as /etc/oratab,
/etc/oranfstab (as

bug with using exported resources?
Hello...
Is this a bug or by design?
I''m using exported resources to generate /etc/ssh/ssh_known_hosts. I
changed the example from the docs to this:
@@sshkey {
"$fqdn,$hostname,$ipaddress": type => rsa,
key => $sshrsakey,
}
so that I would get one line per host in the ssh_know_hosts file. What
happened was that on each run several (all?)

Managing /etc/hosts without using exported resources
Hi All,
I am using Puppet 3.2.4 and I''d like Puppet to manage /etc/hosts for me and
add "neighbouring hosts" only to /etc/hosts. These hosts are determined to
be neighbours based on where they are (city/country).
For example ($::city and $::country are custom facts):
@@host { $::fqdn:
ip => $::ipaddress,
host_aliases => [ $::hostname ],

rsync scalability [Virus checked]
Hello rsync-users,
I need to transfer an PC image-file (200 to 400 MB) to 500 locations,
which are

what parameters do you suggest to use on the central rsync-server?
any recommendation for socket options?
is it a good idea to split the file into several pieces, let?s say 10 MB ?
Does this speed up the blocksum calculation or is it better to leave the

mtime/md5lite with puppet 3.x bug Bug #13199
Hello List,
I´ve tried to switch from md5 checksum to md5lite within all my

Then I´ve found out about bug #13199, but the bugs lists only 2.7x as
affected.
can anybody confirm this issue on 3.x?

I was testing puppet exported resources as in

Best way to add APC and change size of apc.shm_size
Hello!!
I am a new user to puppet and I need to use puppet to install apc and
change the size of apc.shm_size to 64.
I have found a module here: https://github.com/ridonkulous/puppet-apc
However, when I add the module in, it does not work. I get errors on the
puppet code.
Is there a way to just install the apc package normally and just use puppet
code to change apc.shm_size?
Thanks in
