Bug? FORTTRAN help
I was feeling masochistic the other day and we have been having some wierd memory problems so I started digging into the source for L-BFGS-B. In the lbgfsb.c file I see the following code: /* Cholesky factorization of (2,2) block of wn. */ F77_CALL(dpofa)(&wn[*col + 1 + (*col + 1) * wn_dim1], &m2, col, info); if (*info != 0) { *info = -2; return; } If I am not mistaken

"Earlyclobber" but for a subset of the inputs
Hi Quentin, > It sounds like you only need the earlyclobber description for the N, N > variant. > In other words, as long as you use different opcodes for widen-op NN and > widen-op WN, you model exactly what you want. > > What am I missing? > we are using different opcodes for widen-op NN and widen-op WN. My understanding is that not setting earlyclobber to the W, N

getting ISO week
Hi all, Is there a simple function already implemented for getting the ISO weeks of a Date object? I couldn't find one, and so wrote my own function to do it, but would appreciate a pointer to the "default" way. If a function is not yet implemented, could the code below be of interest to submit to CRAN? Best Regards, Gustaf --------------------

[FreeBSD] Fix for ServerWorks HT1000 in upcoming 7.1?
Hi, I have a server (Dell PowerEdge SC1435, ServerWorks HT1000) on which I'd like to try installing FreeBSD. I've already failed to make 7.0 work on this box and was wondering if you have information about the behavior of the upcoming 7.1 on this hardware. I've been following the "HT1000 chipset errata saga" thread, and the commits by sos@ to CVS (around Jan 2008), but have

melt on OSX ignores na.rm=T
Hi list, I run R on Linux and OSX. On both systems I use R version 2.9.2 (2009-08-24) and reshape version: 0.8.2 (2008-11-04). When I do a melt with na.rm=T on a data frame I get different results on these systems: library(reshape) x <- read.table(textConnection("char trial wn p E10I13D0 4 r E10I13D0 4 a E10I13D0 4 c E10I13D0 4 t E10I13D0 4 i E10I13D0 4 c E10I13D0 4 e E10I13D0

multiple logical streams
Hi, Why is seekability necessary in case of multiplexed multiple logical streams? Isn't the differentiation based on serial number sufficient to continue decoding of pages in the sequence of their arrival? How to read NT Domain accounts from a Unix box
Hi, Is there any open way of reading user/group accounts of a NT Domain from a Unix box? I guess, rpcclient is more like a hack of MS protocol. Is it the only way currently? Can anyone give more information on this? Thanks in advance. Extracting information from text data
Hi R-Users,   Thanks in advance.   I am using R-2.12.0 on Windows XP.   I am trying to produce an n X m matrix from text data stored in different files. Where n = number of words (say w1, w2, …, wn). M is the number of documents (say d1, d2, …, dm)   A. Using package tm   I am using package tm to do the job. I have provided the code below:   > my.corpus <- Corpus(DirSource(my.path),

How to make legend with line+ character
Dear all, I have a multiline plot with each line labeled with a different letter. But I'm not able to make the legend display the same kind of pattern '-a-', instead the letter is overwritten by the line. A simpler legend with only the letter is not very visible and the pt.bg does nothing with letters. Any idea? plot(1:10,10:1,lty=1,type='b', lwd=2,pch='a')

Table or file as STDIN to the R Script
Hi all, I am trying to call the R script/ R Program via my Shell Script. I need to pass a file to the R script as an argument. When I am trying to do that I am getting error and only first line of the file is being read. Can you tell me how should I do that so that it reads the entire file in a R object so that later I am able to process the matrix operation on that file. It is a tab delimited

Shockwave - any progress?
I have achieved much of what I wanted to achieve using Wine, with one exception. I was hoping to be able to use Shockwave content, but despite installing Firefox and the Shockwave plugin, it does not work - it seems to stop after the promotional film before the actual requested content. I know there are "pay" solutions to this problem, but was wondering if anyone had found a free

strange behaviour of median
During some experimentation in preparing R lessons I encountered this behaviour which I can not explain fully mat <- matrix(1:16, 4,4) df1 <- data.frame(mat) > mean(df1) X1 X2 X3 X4 2.5 6.5 10.5 14.5 Expected, documented > median(df1) [1] 6.5 10.5 Rather weird, AFAIK there shall not be an issue with data frame at least I did not find any in help page. I tracked it

optim: abnormal termination in lnsrch (resend)
[sorry, forgot some details...] I'm using optim(param, fun, method='L-BFGS-B', lower=lo, upper=up) to minimize a certain function. Often the minimization ends with the message: ERROR: ABNORMAL_TERMINATION_IN_LNSRCH What is optim() trying to say? What have I to change in my function to make the minimization succeed? Do you think using BBoptim() instead of optim() changes anything?
